“THE LAST DOMINO? Tour” of reunion GENESIS which finished the schedule of 2021. The latest report is decided to release two works at the same time.
This work is the second set of 2 performances. This is the best audience recording of “Madison Square Garden (hereinafter MSG) performance on November 5th + 6th, 2021” for 2 consecutive days. This week, “RALEIGH 2021 (Amity 655)”, the first report of the US tour, will be released at the same time, and the gift title “PHILADELPHIA 2021 1ST NIGHT: THE VIDEO” will also appear. It was a rush to release the latest report at once. I will leave the outline of the whole tour to the explanation of “RALEIGH 2021”, but here let’s confirm the position of each work from the detailed schedule of the US tour.

● Recording 2 performances by the best masters of the time
This is the last of GENESIS’s 21 performances in the US tour. The simultaneous release of “RALEIGH 2021” was the 4th performance in the early stages, but the MSG performance of this work was a concert of the 15th and 16th performances that went a long way.
This work recorded at such a show is exactly the best audience recording. The two performances of this work are not only at the same venue but also at the same recording artist’s collection, but the recording artist is not the only one. It is Mr. “Tapehead 2” who is known as a modern master. This person specializes in progressive rock and is a sound reporter who tells the latest shows of various artists. Roger Waters’ press masterpiece “LOUISVILLE 2017 MATRIX (Sigma 186)”, Steve Hackett’s “CRUISE TO THE EDGE 2018 (Amity 430)”, Jon Anderson’s “PASADENA 2019 (Amity 575)” and YES & ASIA’s “BETHLEHEM” 2019 (Amity 559) ”and so on, the collection has no time to list. Phil Collins’ resurrection solo tour was also reported in “PHILADELPHIA 2018 (Amity 493)”.
This work is a superb set where you can experience 2 performances with such a master sound. In fact, the sound of this work deserves to be called a “sound board”. The simultaneous release of “RALEIGH 2021” sucked in the sound of the hall, albeit a little, but in this work, the sharp and distinctive core jumps into the ear with a sense of zero distance. Realistic cheers occur between songs, and Phil’s MC voice also has a sense of space. However, during the demonstration, there is a strong sense of super-vividness that makes me wonder, “Where is this audience !?”

● Super delicate sound that makes even a slight difference in position feel vivid
Moreover, both performances are superb and very similar. The factor is, of course, the recording position. The first day of MSG (DISC 1-2) is “11th row of section 115” and the second day (DISC 3-4) is “9th row of section 116”. In the case of MSG, there is little difference in distance between sections 115 and 116, and the environment is almost the same. However, even if they are very similar, they are not the same. Comparing listening to the same song with headphones, the second day (DISC 3-4) has a clearer outline and a stronger direct feeling. Perhaps the slightest difference between “11th row” and “9th row” also affected the sound. This work is also super vivid and super delicate so that even such a slight difference can be felt clearly.
A superb recording that was a candidate for the best masterpiece that jumped out at the end of the North American tour. It is a masterpiece that sets two performances of the superb master of the master of modern progressive rock “Tapehead 2”. Is it “RALEIGH 2021” with a beautiful sound, or this work with a super direct feeling and 2 performance volumes? If you really have to choose only one, it’s a sound that will surprise everyone … No, I’d like you to enjoy both of them at the same time. Please enjoy your stomach!

★ The best audience recording set of “Madison Square Garden Performance on November 5th and 6th, 2021”. ●当代きっての名手による2公演丸ごと録音
これがGENESIS最後となる全米ツアーの全21公演。同時リリースの『RALEIGH 2021』は序盤の4公演目でしたが、本作のMSG公演はグッと進んだ15公演目・16公演目のコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、まさに極上のオーディエンス録音。本作の2公演は単に同会場というだけでなく同録音家コレクションでもあるのですが、その録音家こそがただ者ではない。現代の名手として知られる「Tapehead2」氏なのです。この人物はプログレ系を専門としており、様々なアーティストの最新ショウを伝えてくれる音のレポーター。ロジャー・ウォーターズのプレス名盤『LOUISVILLE 2017 MATRIX(Sigma 186)』やスティーヴ・ハケットの『CRUISE TO THE EDGE 2018(Amity 430)』、ジョン・アンダーソンの『PASADENA 2019(Amity 575)』やYES&ASIAの『BETHLEHEM 2019(Amity 559)』等々、そのコレクションは枚挙に暇がない。フィル・コリンズの復活ソロツアーも『PHILADELPHIA 2018(Amity 493)』でレポートしてくれました。
本作は、そんな達人サウンドで2公演を丸ごと体験できる超極上セット。実際、本作のサウンドは「まるでサウンドボード」と呼ぶに相応しい。同時リリースの『RALEIGH 2021』はわずかではあってもホール鳴りを吸い込んでいましたが、本作は輪郭キリッと際立った芯がゼロ距離感覚で耳元に飛び込んでくる。曲間になるとリアルな喝采が沸き起こりますし、フィルのMC声にも空間感覚が宿る。しかし、実演中は「これのどこがオーディエンス!?」と耳を疑う超ビビッド感が強烈なのです。

●わずかなポジション差もビビッドに感じる超繊細サウンド
しかも、2公演とも超極上で酷似している。その要因はもちろん録音ポジション。MSG初日(DISC 1-2)は「セクション115の11列目」で、2日目(DISC 3-4)は「セクション116の9列目」。MSGの場合、セクション115と116に距離的な違いはほとんどなく、ほとんど同じ環境なのです。ただし、酷似していても同じではない。ヘッドフォンで同じ曲を聴き比べてみると、2日目(DISC 3-4)の方が輪郭鮮やかで更にダイレクト感が強い。恐らくは「11列目」と「9列目」という極わずかな違いがサウンドにも影響したのでしょう。本作は、そんな微差までもが克明に感じられるほどの超ビビッド&超繊細でもあるのです。
北米ツアー終了と共に飛び出した、最高傑作の候補となる超極上録音。現代プログレ界の名手「Tapehead2」氏の超極上マスターを2公演セットした大傑作です。鳴りの美感を備えた『RALEIGH 2021』か、超ダイレクト感&2公演ボリュームの本作か。もしどうしても1本だけ選ばなければならないなら、万人がびっくりするサウンドの本作か……いや、やはり2作併せて楽しんで頂きたい同時リリース。どうぞ、お腹いっぱいご堪能ください!
