Andy Taylor’s special live show “AN EVENING WITH ANDY TAYLOR & SPECIAL GUESTS” has spread the news that “Plant sang Stairway to Heaven!” is going around the world. Introducing a super-excellent video collection where you can witness the whole story.
If you’ve been reading this article, you may know that Robert Plant doesn’t like to sing “Stairway to Heaven.” He has never featured it in any of his solo performances, and the last time he sang it was in 2007’s “Festival Day”. It was on “Great Tea on October 21, 2023″ that he broke the ban (?). On this day, a charity gig was held by former DURAN DURAN member Andy Taylor, and Plant made a guest appearance there.
In the first place, Andy had publicly announced that he was suffering from prostate cancer, and this day was a charity gig for the Cancer Awareness Trust, a support group for cancer patients. Then, a certain donor made a six-figure bid (even if it were 100,000 pounds, it would be more than 18 million yen) on the condition that “the plant sing Stairway to Heaven.” Plant agreed to repeat the performance, saying, “If I could raise that much money just by singing one song.”
Because the incident is so historical, the story about the plant has gotten ahead of itself, but the main character of this gig is Andy. Plant appeared in some of them. Here, let’s organize the show content and set.

…and it looks like this. It was basically just Andy Taylor with a special band (including Kenwyn House, Guy Pratt, David Palmer, Dino Jercich, and his son Andy Jr.). It was a style in which Ella Henderson and Plant appeared as guest singers. Even on Andy’s solo stage, not only DURAN DURAN but also songs that participated in the session and the new song “Man’s A Wolf To Man” are being performed.
Well, such charity gigs can also be streamed online. This work is a DVD that is a collection of the best masters. Of course, it is an officially recorded pro shot, but it is not one type. This work is a definitive edition that includes a total of 4 types of highest quality videos. Let’s introduce each one individually.
That said, its vividness is very good. In the first place, the venue is a narrow studio live, and the feeling of being together in a closed room is better than the scale of the multi-camera. As mentioned above, the audio is a super high-quality soundboard, and the screen is completely professional and has ultra-high resolution, making it a sight to behold. The taste of “the world’s most beautiful audience shot” creates a sense of secrecy that cannot be experienced with ordinary professional shots. These two types of bonuses are not free. In particular, “Alternate Angle #1″ is a multi-camera edit. The audio is spatially recorded using a microphone, so for a moment you think, “Audience shot?” However, the perspective doesn’t show the audience at all, and is either on the stage right next to the plant, or from an angle looking up from below. 本稿に目を留められた方ならご存知かも知れませんが、ロバート・プラントは「天国への階段」を歌いたがらない。自身のソロ公演では一度も取り上げたことがなく、最後に歌ったのは2007年の『祭典の日』でした。そんな彼が禁を破った（？）のは「2023年10月21日グレート・ティー」でのことでした。この日は元DURAN DURANのアンディ・テイラーによるチャリティ・ギグが行われ、プラントはそこにゲスト出演したのです。
そもそもアンディは以前から前立腺ガンの罹患を公言しており、この日はガン患者の支援団体“The Cancer Awareness Trust”のためのチャリティ・ギグだったのです。そして、ある寄付者が「プラントが天国への階段を歌う事」を条件に６桁に及ぶ高額（仮に10万ポンドだとしても1800万円以上）で入札。「たった１曲歌うだけでそれだけの寄付が集められるなら」と、プラントも再演に応じたのです。
あまりに歴史的な事件ゆえにプラントの話が先走ってしまいましたが、このギグの主役はあくまでアンディ。プラントが出演したのは、その一部です。ここで、ショウ内容とセットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。基本的に特別バンド（ケンウィン・ハウスやガイ・プラット、デヴィッド・パーマー、ディノ・イェルシッチ、それに息子のアンディJr.等）を従えたアンディ・テイラーが出ずっぱり。そこにエラ・ヘンダーソンやプラントがゲスト・シンガーとして登場するスタイルでした。アンディのソロ・ステージにしてもDURAN DURANだけでなく、セッション参加した曲や新曲「Man’s A Wolf To Man」も披露されています。
さて、そんなチャリティ・ギグはネットでも配信。本作は、その極上マスターを集成したDVDです。もちろん公式に収録されたプロショットではありますが、それも１種類ではない。本作は合計４種の最高峰映像を収録した決定盤なのです。それぞれ個別にご紹介していきましょう。
【DISC 1（メイン）：完全収録のワンカメ・プロショット】
まず登場するのは、本作のメインとなるフル・プロショット。“The Fine Art Auction”による生配信映像です。ご覧になった方も多いと思いますが、この配信はワンカメ。音声はサウンドボードですし、視点も客席の映らない絶景ではありますが、アングルは切り替わらず、見どころを追うカメラワークも思いっきりラフだったりします。
とは言え、その生々しさがすこぶる良い。そもそも現場は狭い狭いスタジオ・ライヴですし、マルチカメラのスケール感より密室の同席感が素晴らしい。前述のように音声は超極上サウンドボードですし、画面も完全プロ仕様の超高画質で見応えは超絶。「世界一美しいオーディエンス・ショット」といった趣きは、普通のプロショットでは味わえない秘匿感まで醸してくれるのです。
【DISC 1（ボーナス）：「天国への階段」の特別映像２種】
DISC 1には、メイン映像の他にボーナス映像２種を追加収録。このショウ細大の見どころである「天国の階段」の別アングルです。
このボーナス２種もタダモノではない。特に「Alternate Angle #1」はマルチカメラ編集。音声がマイクによる空間録音なので一瞬「オーディエンス・ショット？」と思いますが、その視点は観客の姿が一切映らず、プラント真横のステージ上だったり、足下からの見上げアングルだったり。どう考えても観客が映せる撮影ではなく、スタッフによるプロショットです。
それに対して、最後の「Alternate Angle #2」は完全にオーディエンス・ショット。ただし、最前列。しかも、プラントの真ん前。このショウにおける最重要の１曲を、最重要の超特等席で現場体験できるわけです。
【DISC 2：最前列視点の超ド迫力プロショット】
さらに本作は、さらに別アングルの長尺プロショットまで同梱しています。こちらはワンカメなうえにカメラワークもない固定ショットなのですが、そのアングルが凄い。ステージ真っ正面。アンディのマイク・スタンドが画面のド真ん中から微動だにせず、狭いステージの隅から隅までを一望で完全に捉えている。
残念ながら冒頭３曲がありませんが、音声は超極上サウンドボードですし、そのド迫力な光景は「もしかして本番じゃなくリハーサル？」と思ってしまうほど（実査にはちゃんと本番ステージです）。歴史的なギグを完全に独り占めできる超強力プロショットです。
