The cultural heritage album known for its live version of “Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast” has been updated. It will be released as a press 2CD that will permanently preserve the highest peak updated sound by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”.
What is engraved on this work is “Sheffield performance on December 22, 1970”. This is the best audience recording. This show is known for the stage performance of the musique concrète work “Alain’s Psychedelic Breakfast”, but what kind of timing was such an experimental performance? This is PINK FLOYD in 1970. The next work “Meddle” session started early in the new year of 1971, and the Sheffield performance of this work was the final performance just before that. This “Europe #5” is also known as a prolific leg of famous recordings, but this is the only one where you can listen to “Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast”. …and it looks like this. It was a very fulfilling tour with most of the stages still recorded. However, “Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast” was played at the last four performances. This is the only work that can be listened to as a musical work even though it is so fulfilling.

[Detailed brush-up of the legendary 1st Gene Master] This work is extremely valuable, but its sound is so great that it will definitely be recognized as a masterpiece, regardless of its rarity. Although it has been repeatedly upgraded over a long history, the source for this work is the 1st generation that was discovered several years ago. “GRAF ZEPPELIN” is a work that has refined the best master that still cannot be surpassed.
If you have been paying attention to this article, you probably know the paranoid mastering precision of “GRAF ZEPPELIN”, but what was particularly important this time was the correction of the sound distortion. If you have the previous edition “Sigma 271”, please listen to the keyboard at the beginning of “Fat and Tottering Taiyo” and the second half of “Taiyo Sanka”. I think you can feel a slight vibration in the quiet long tone. It’s so minor that it feels more like a vintage instrument than a flaw, but after analysis, it seems like the cause is uneven running at the time of transfer. Therefore, we made fine adjustments in order to faithfully reproduce the sound itself. The original performance, which is crisp and stable, glossy and beautifully extended, has been beautifully revived.
Even more important is the essential “Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast.” Periodic minute noises caused by the master tape have been thoroughly treated. To be clear, when I listened to the previous edition again, there was only a slight noise, “If you ask me, it seems like there is such a noise…”, but this is also carefully and thoroughly treated one by one. The processing method changes depending on the type of the underlying performance sound, resulting in a seamless and beautiful finish. It’s only after the noise has been completely removed that you realize, “Oh, there really was noise,” and the natural sound of the scene has been restored.

[Night of the live version of ATOM HEART MOTHER that you can only listen to] What is revived with such an upgraded sound is a rare masterpiece recording that is valuable and worth listening to. From the beginning, “Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast”, which lasts about 30 minutes, far exceeds the length of the album, is played, and at the end, a version of “Atom Heart Mother” performed with an orchestra conducted by John Aldiss is performed. Together with the “Fat and Tottering Sun” that is performed in between, it is also the full show that is closest to the live performance version of “ATOM HEART MOTHER”.
Even the repertoire played in between is a must-listen. “Embryo” is full of ripeness, and “Eugene, beware of the axe” is the full version of “Eugene.” Along with “Alan”, the “mystical” trouble is also a topic of conversation. The performance itself is a magnificent one, lasting 25 minutes, but at the 18 minute mark, when the song was in full swing, a power outage suddenly occurred. The show was interrupted with only the live sound of the drums. This work also records interrupted parts (intermittently for about 2 minutes). And the mood is clearly reminiscent of the 1970s. The audience seemed to think it was an intentional performance, but the audience applauded normally, and there was a lot of laughter at the venue, which has not yet reopened. The mood in which it is not even clear whether this is a production or an accident is the scent of the era when “rock doesn’t know what will happen.”

……と、このようになっています。大半のステージが記録に残っているという大充実のツアーでした。しかし「アランのサイケデリック・ブレックファスト」を演奏したのは、その中でも最後の４公演。ここまで充実していながら音楽作品として聴けるのは本作だけなのです。

【伝説の1stジェネ・マスターを細密ブラッシュアップ】
そんな貴重極まる本作ですが、そのサウンドはレア度など無関係でも名作認定されること確実の素晴らしさ。長い歴史でアップグレードを繰り返してきたわけですが、本作のソースになっているのは数年前に発掘された1stジェネ。今なお超える物のないベスト・マスターを「GRAF ZEPPELIN」が磨き込んだ業物なのです。
本稿に目を留められた方なら偏執的なまでの「GRAF ZEPPELIN」マスタリングの精度をご存知と思いますが、今回特に大きかったのは音ヨレの補正。前回盤『Sigma 271』をお持ちの方なら「デブでよろよろの太陽」の冒頭部や「太陽讃歌」後半のキーボードを聴いてみてください。静かなロングトーンに僅かな揺れが感じられると思います。あまりにささやかで欠点と言うよりはヴィンテージ楽器の風合いにも感じられるのですが、分析の結果、どうやらトランスファー時点の走行ムラが原因。そこで出音そのものを忠実に再現すべく、細かく細かく調整。ビシッと安定させ、艶やかで綺麗に伸びる本来の演奏が見事に甦っているのです。
さらに重要なのは肝心要の「アランのサイケデリック・ブレックファスト」。マスター・テープに起因する定期的な微細プチ・ノイズが徹底的にトリートメントされている。ハッキリ申しますと改めて前回盤を聴いても「言われてみれば、そんなノイズがあるような……」くらいのささやかなノイズなのですが、これも１つひとつ丁寧に、徹底的にトリートメント。それも土台の演奏音の種類によって処理法を変え、シームレスに美しく仕上げている。綺麗に除去されて初めて「あ、本当にノイズがあったんだ」と気づくくらい、ナチュラルな現場音を取り戻しているのです。

【聴きどころしかない本生版ATOM HEART MOTHERの夜】
そんなアップグレード・サウンドで甦るのは貴重にして聴きどころしかない希代の名録音。冒頭からアルバムを遙かに超える約30分の「アランのサイケデリック・ブレックファスト」が繰り広げられ、ラストはジョン・オルディスが指揮者を務めるオーケストラ共演バージョンの「原子心母」が披露される。その合間で披露される「デブでよろよろの太陽」も合わせ、生演奏版『ATOM HEART MOTHER』にもっとも近いフルショウでもあります。
その合間で演奏されるレパートリーにしても必聴。円熟味たっぷりの「エンブリオ」、鬼気迫る完全版の「ユージン、斧に気をつけろ」。そして、「アラン」と並んで語り草となっているのが「神秘」のトラブル。演奏自体が25分に及ぶ壮大なものですが、曲が盛り上がった18分台で突如停電が発生。ドラムの生音だけになり、ショウが中断してしまうのです。本作でも（断続的に約２分ですが）中断パートも記録されている。そして、そのムードが1970年の時代感が丸出し。意図的な演出だと思ったのか観客が普通に拍手を送っていますし、なかなか再開しない会場で笑いが起こる。この演出なのか事故なのかさえ判然としないムードこそ「ロックは何が起こるか分からない」時代の薫りなのです。
伝説の「アラン」、貴重なオケ入り「原子心母」、そして「神秘」のトラブル。そのすべてを細密マスタリングによる最高峰更新サウンドで体験できる文化遺産アルバムです。マスターテープに起因するノイズや歪みさえ乗り越えた永久保存プレス２CD。英国ロック史に残る伝説の夜、どうぞいつでも、いつまでもお楽しみください。
