The latest release of Mike Millard’s master tape is Linda Ronstadt in 1990. Speaking of the mirrored recording that captured her in 90 years, the masterpiece “COSTA MESA 1990: MIKE MILLARD ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES” has already been released, but this time we recorded the stage that was held in LA ten days before that.
Regarding Costa Mesa, it is a new memory that enthusiasts all over the world became confused by the recording state where the mirrored quality exploded, but this recording is also extremely high quality.
Compared to Costa Mesa, where the warm sound spread was attractive, this one has a wonderful solid and core sound quality. There is no doubt that both are of exceptional quality with a mirrored-like on-sound image, but the fact that the feel is completely different is attractive, and what a high-level battle.

コスタメサに関しては、その見事なまでにミラード・クオリティが炸裂した録音状態に世界中のマニアが騒然となったのも記憶に新しいところですが、今回の録音がまた凄まじいまでに高音質。
ウォーミーな音の広がりが魅力だったコスタメサに対し、こちらはソリッドで芯のある音質が素晴らしい。どちらもミラードらしいオンな音像が際立つ別格のクオリティであることに疑いの余地はないのですが、その感触がまったく違うところが魅力かつ、何とハイレベルな争いかと。
最初にJEMSが公開してくれた77年のリンダのステージは一般的な意味での絶頂にあった時期ということで限定プレスCDでのリリースが実現しましたが、コスタメサの時と同様、今回も90年と言う時期であることから、泣く泣くCD-Rでのリリースとなってしまいます。

とは言っても音質は完全にプレスが相応しいレベルのハイクオリティ・オーディエンス。何よりリンダの歌声や息遣いを生々しく捉えてくれているという点においては、先のコスタメサをも凌ぐのでは？と思えてしまう。
おまけに会場がユニバーサル・アンフィシアターとくれば、ミラードが77年のツアーで彼女の極上録音を残してくれた会場であり、彼にとってもリンダにとっても勝手知ったるもの。だからこそ、これほどまでクオリティの高い録音を生み出してくれたのでは。

それ以上にリンダとバンドが織りなす盤石の演奏と熱唱は筆舌に尽くしがたい。文字通り円熟の境地に達した彼女がバックコーラスにローズマリー・バトラー、ドラムのラス・カンケル、そしてストーン・ポニーズ時代からの盟友ケン・エドワーズといったメンバーも円熟の極みの中で支えられ、実に気持ち良さそうに歌い上げてくれます。
もちろんこのツアーの目玉かつゲストであったアーロン・ネヴィルがこの日も登場、二枚目のディスクに収められたパートでビロード・ボイスを披露。その息を吞むような二人の圧巻なデュエットを前に、周囲のオーディエンスが固唾を呑んで聞き入るのも当然のことかと思われ、これがまた驚異的なクオリティと聞き心地に一役買ってくれている。
そしてコスタメサでは披露されなかったフィナーレの「When Something Is Wrong With My Baby」。この曲こそ1990年のリンダとアーロンのコラボを象徴するR＆Bクラシックな訳で、そこにスペシャル・ゲストとしてタワー・オブ・パワー・ホーンズまで加わる極めつけの大団円も完璧な音質で捉えてくれました。
もはや彼女の歌声にバックの演奏、このツアーならではの魅力的なセットリスト。とどめはミラードによる卓越した録音による驚異的な音質。もはや、すべてが完璧なパフォーマーとテーパーの相互作用が生み出した最高のオーディエンス・アルバムです。
