CSNY gathered again and held a charity event for two nights in the spring of 1990. Until now, items have not been released and it has become an overwhelmingly maniac existence, but Mike Millard was on both days. It was the release of “SANTA MONICA 1990: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES” that it became clear that he had participated and recorded.
This event was not only for CSNY, but was also a very extravagant event, with former Byrds member Chris Hillman leading the undercard and the popular Desert Rose Band and Don Henley performing at the time.
That means Millard also recorded their stage. Such a valuable sound source finally became clear this week.

The previous “SANTA MONICA 1990: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES” captured CSNY’s stage on the first day of the event, but this time the cassette master that captures Henry’s stage from the second day of the event will be unveiled to the world for the first time.
As the CSNY recording proved, the first day’s recording was a sound image with a sense of distance for Millard, but this time it’s the second day, so the sound image is much closer. Still, I feel a sense of distance from the usual mirrored, but the moderate balance and deep texture are still outstanding mirrored quality.
If this was the length of a normal live performance, it wouldn’t be strange if it was released as a press CD.

This day was the opening act for an event held by a senior group called CSNY, so we only had 40 minutes. However, this recording was an unexpectedly valuable recording.
This is because Henry has just finished recording for “MTV UNPLUGGED” which will be broadcast in three weeks, so at this event he will show off an unplugged set accompanied by the band. In the finale, “The Last Worthless Evening,” he unintentionally said, “I forgot the lyrics.”
Of course, the standard cover “Come Rain or Come Shine”, which was shown on “MTV UNPLUGGED” and became a hot topic, is also sung here, which is valuable because it reminds me of the fact that it was just after the recording of the same program. .
The main part of Henry’s tour has already been released as a masterpiece of mirrored recording “L.A. FORUM 1990 MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES”, but it is a new excavation recording of mirrored impact that captured such an atmosphere stage in just two months. Please enjoy a truly dense 40 minutes.

CSNYが再集結して1990年の春に二夜に渡って開催したチャリティ・イベントは今までアイテムがリリースされず圧倒的にマニアックな存在となっていたのですが、何と両日ともにマイク・ミラードが参戦して記録されていたことが明らかになったのは『SANTA MONICA 1990: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES』のリリースでした。
このイベントはCSNYだけでなく、前座を元バーズのクリス・ヒルマンが率いて当時人気絶頂だったデザート・ローズ・バンドとドン・ヘンリーが務めるという大変に豪華なイベントでもあったのです。
ということはミラードが彼らのステージも録音してくれていた。そんな貴重音源が遂に今週明らかになりました。

先の『SANTA MONICA 1990: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES』はイベント初日におけるCSNYのステージを捉えたものでしたが、今回はイベント二日目からヘンリーのステージを捉えたカセットマスターが世界初公開。
そのCSNY録音が証明していたように、初日の録音はミラードにしてはかなり距離感のある音像だったのですが、今回は二日目という事もあってグッと近い音像。それでもいつものミラードからすると距離感を覚えるのですが、程よいバランスと深みのある質感はやはり卓越したミラード・クオリティ。
もしこれで通常のライブぐらいの尺であればプレスCDでリリースされたとしてもおかしくなかったほど。

この日はCSNYという先輩グループが開いたイベントの前座でしたので持ち時間は40分という短さ。ところが、この録音が思わぬ貴重な録音となったのです。
というのも、ヘンリーは三週間後に放送される『MTV UNPLUGGED』の収録を済ませたところですので、本イベントでもバンドを従えた余裕のアンプラグドセットを披露。フィナーレ「The Last Worthless Evening」で思わず「歌詞を忘れた」などととぼけているところが却って余裕を見せつけてくれます。
当然『MTV UNPLUGGED』で披露されて話題となったスタンダード・カバー「Come Rain or Come Shine」をここでも歌ってくれているのがまた同番組の収録直後であったことを偲ばせてくれるから貴重。
ヘンリーのツアー本編は既にミラード録音の名盤『L.A. FORUM 1990 MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES』がリリース済ですが、たった二か月でこれほど雰囲気のステージを捉えたミラード衝撃の新発掘録音。正に濃密な40分間をお楽しみください。
