BLONDIE in 1976 made a sensational debut with “Youjo Blondie”. A hidden treasure album that allows you to experience the scene of the dawn is now available.
What is imbued in this work is an excellent audience recording of “July 23, 1976 New York City Performance (Early Show)” (The title “Max’s Kansas City” is the name of the nightclub that became the scene. Location is New York). Speaking of 1976, “CBGB 1976 (Uxbridge 1471)” is also popular as a standard at our store. However, this work has a different meaning of the show even in the same 1976. In order to explain the area, let’s first unravel from the schedule at that time.
・ February 13-May 1: US #1 (14 performances)
・ May 30-July 3: US #2 (6 performances)
・July 23-August 3: USA #3 (5 performances) ← Coco
《August-September Production of “Youjo Blondie”》
・ September 14: Poughkeepsie Performance
・October 23: Performance in New York
・ November 16-December 4: US # 4 (3 performances)
《“Youjo Blondie” released in December》
・December 23-31: US #5 (5 performances) ← * CBGB 1976
This is BLONDIE in 1976. However, the records at that time are ambiguous, and details such as the number of performances are not exact. Please refer to it as a general flow. “CBGB 1976” was a Christmas gig after the album was released, but the New York City performance of this work was “US # 3” five months before that. The production of my debut work “Youjo Blondie” will start in August, but it was right before that.
Recorded at such a site, this work is a digitized product from the newly excavated 1st Gene Reel, and wakes you up with a fresh and clear sound. It is not a type that can be mistaken for a sound board because it sounds like an audience, but it is not too far away. Perhaps the stage is physically close because the site is a nightclub. The feeling of “the band is right there” is blurred, centering on Deborah Harry’s singing voice.
Another point is that the feeling of a closed room is perfect, but it is extremely easy to listen to. “Max’s Kansas City”, which became the scene, is a semi-professional era base along with CBGB, but the audience is very quiet, probably because they are not familiar with the songs before recording, or because of the early show that starts early. Although I cheered between songs, I listened quietly during the performance, and there is a feeling that I am witnessing a studio rehearsal rather than a live performance.
With such an intimate sound, the stage tension of her debut work “Youjo Blondie” explodes. As mentioned above, it is a similar but different time to our standard “CBGB 1976”, so let’s organize the set while comparing.
Yojo Blondie (10 songs)
・In The Sun/Look Good In Blue(★)/Little Girl Lies/In the Flesh(★)/Man Overboard(★)/Rifle Range/Rip Her To Shreds/A Shark In Jet’s Clothing/Kung Fu Girl/X Offender
● Others (3 songs)
・The Bilbao Song (★) / Evil Friends (★) / Moonlight Drive
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard even on “CBGB 1976 (Uxbridge 1471)”.
… and it looks like this. In “CBGB 1976”, new songs from the 2nd album “Whispering Blondie” were also shown, but here, the “Youjo Blondie” number was thoroughly performed. It hits all songs except “The Attack of the Giant Ants”.
A club gig in which almost all the songs of the album are performed just before the recording of the debut work. It is a hidden treasure album that allows you to fully experience such a valuable scene with closed room sound. One of the new excavations that will be exactly the “live version of the fairy Blondie”. Please enjoy the experience to your heart’s content.
★ Closed room audience recording of “July 23, 1976 New York City Performance (Early Show)”. A digitized product from the newly excavated 1st Gene Reel, it wakes up with a fresh and clear sound. The feeling of “the band is right there” is also wonderful, centering on Deborah Harry’s singing voice only in a small nightclub. It is one of the new excavations that will be a “live version of youjo Blondie” where all songs other than “The Attack of the Giant Ants” will be played on a large scale from the debut work.
