マニア必携Mクローデル・レーベルより、既にハリウッドボウル公演は音源と映像のセットでリリースされている。 しかしその後も少なくない量の初登場映像が発掘されているのはマニアの方はご存知であろう。 ジャイルズがプロデュースしたハリウッドボウルのライブ盤が契機となり、それまで埋もれていた未公開映像が公式非公式問わず新たに発見されている。 しかし公式にはライブ音源のみが発表され、映像作品としては一切発表されていない。 本作は、Mクローデル・レーベルのCDとDVDのセットがリリースされて以降に発掘された初登場映像を収録したタイトルである。

【1964年8月23日】
ハリウッドボウルは公式には映像作品が発表されていないにも関わらず、当日は数多くのカメラが配置されているのが判明している。 これまで便宜上、カメラA、B、C、D、と、4種類のカメラが確認されており、それらはMクローデルの前回のセットに全て収録されていた。 しかし今回、新たに、カメラE、F、G、Hと、さらに新たな3種+1のカメラによる映像が発掘されたのである。1964年といえば昭和44年である。 この時代のコンサートにおいて、実に7種類もの異なるカメラによって撮影されていたとは驚きを禁じ得ない。

本作では、まず既発のカメラAを収録している。これは最も長くステージを収録したカメラであり、ほぼコンサートの全貌を収録している最もポピュラーなもの。 しかし既発映像の再録ではなく、今回のために新たにデジタル・トランスファーを行なっている。これまで2ランクほど落ちるソースでしか出回っていなかったカメラAの映像を、 初めてマスター・クオリティで収録している。 加えてカメラ同録の音声も音質が向上しているのにも着目して欲しい。 さらにカメラAの映像をカラー化したものも併録している。写真でしか見る事の出来なかったハリウッドボウルの動くカラー映像である。 同様にカメラB、カメラCの映像もニュー・デジタル・トランスファーしたものが収録されており、カメラAほどの長さはないものの、ビートルズがステージに登場するシーンの他、 「Twist And Shout」と「She Loves You」のシーンが従来のものよりも格段に向上した画質で見る事が出来る。

そして今回初登場となるのが、カメラE、F、G、Hの3つ+1のカメラによる映像である。 カメラEは開演前のハリウッドボウル周辺の様子からドキュメンタリー的に撮影が行なわれている。ダフ屋らしき人物、そしてコンサートグッズを売っている様子など、今と変わらぬ様子が伺える。 そしてコンサート中に熱狂する聴衆がメインで撮影されていることから、何らかのニュース映像のカメラだと想定される。このカメラの素晴らしいところは遠目ながら初めて「Can’t Buy Me Love」の演奏シーンが含まれている点である。 「Can’t Buy Me Love」を演奏しながらステージで躍動するビートルズの姿を安定したショットで捉えられている。このカメラEの映像は一部『EIGHT DAYS A WEEK』にも使用された、その全長版である。

カメラFもまたニュース報道用に撮影されたものであろう。 暗転する会場にフラッシュが炊かれ、聴衆のボルテージが一気にあがる様子が映し出されている。前座のステージ映像も珍しいが、「All My Loving」を正面から捉えた映像が素晴らしい。 短いながら「Boys」もドラムを叩きながら歌うリンゴを正面から捉えている。カメラGは会場後方からステージを捉えたショットである。 やはりメインは熱狂する聴衆の様子を伝えるものだが、同録音声の「Can’t Buy Me Love」が収録されている。便宜上カメラHとしているものは、短いながらカメラGの別ルートによる高画質バージョンである。

【1965年8月30日】
Mクローデル・レーベルの以前のセットでは1965年8月29日のカラー映像が収録されていた。 本作は新たに発掘された翌8月30日のカラー映像を2種類収録している。便宜上＃２とクレジットされたものはステージ右後方から映像で、前座に加えシェア・スタジアムと同じミリタリー・ジャケットを着用したビートルズの演奏シーンがカラーで捉えられている。 ＃３は逆にアリーナ左後方から映像である前座の演奏、そしてビートルズが登場してチューニングを行なう様子などがカラーで捉えられている。 演奏曲は不明ながら、ポールとジョージがひとつのマイクでコーラスをつけたり、ポールが身体を上下に動かして熱唱する様子、演奏後にお辞儀をする様子などが収録されている。 これらはいずれも今回が初登場となる貴重なカラー映像である。最後のKABC FILM ARCHIVEはオフ・ステージのビートルズのドキュメンタリー映像が収録されている。 ロスの空港に到着したとたん、記者会見が行われるなど慌ただしい様子が伺える。美しいカラーで数多く残されているロスの庭園での写真が撮影されたであろう時の映像も収録されている。

【PRESS CONFERENCE etc】
いずれも今回初登場となるドキュメンタリー映像及びプレス・カンファレンス映像を各種収録している。1964年8月18日ロサンゼルス空港でビートルズを待ち受けるファンたちの様子は、現在ポール来日の際に成田で待ち受けるファンと時代変われど同じだというのがわかる。空港内に急遽セッティングされた事務机とパイプ椅子だけの簡易的な場所での記者会見。4人は終始タバコをふかしているのが今では考えられまい。記者会見が終わると記者たちがドサクサに紛れてサインをねだっているのが面白い。とにかくビートルズを乗せた航空機が到着してタラップを降りてくるところから熱狂は始まっており、記者が当時の可愛らしいビートルズファンの女の子たちに「そんなに夢中になって君たちのボーイフレンドは嫉妬しないのかい？」という質問などを投げかけている。

1964年8月23日はコンサート当日の記者会見である。ポールを先頭に記者会見場に入ったビートルズはさっそくタバコに火をつけている。ポールのタバコにジョージがライターで火をつけてあげるシーンは、まるで体育会系の先輩後輩である。この日の記者会見は別カメラによりカラーでも残されている。音声こそないものの、1964年には珍しいカラー映像である。そしてハリウッドボウルの二日後にあたる1965年8月25日、ビートルズは映画『HELP!』のプレミア試写会の会場に姿を現した。もちろんここでもビートルズ・ファンの女の子たちが会場を取り囲んでいる。「HELP」と映画タイトルが大きく書かれた幕をバックに記者会見が行なわれている。「最もハンサムなメンバーのスター氏にお聞きします」と主役を立てた質問者は慇懃無礼であろう。ここでもポールとジョンはタバコを吸っている。そして1964年8月26日のプライベート8mmはどこかのホテルのプールでメンバーやスタッフが遊んでいる様子が収録されている。

本作の最後は2016年にリリースされたジャイルズ・マーティンのプロデュースによる『LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL』のCMが各種収録されている。後からの着色であろうカラー映像で「Boys」が収録されている他、1964年全米ツアー各地の映像をコラージュして当時の熱狂が伝わる映像作品となっている。 特に今まで未公開だったカラーによる演奏シーンがふんだんに盛り込まれており、CMという性質上ダイジェストながら、非常に充実した映像作品となっている。

【THE LOST HOLLYWOOD BOWL FILMS】
上記のように、Mクローデルが以前リリースしたハリウッドボウルのセットを補完する、その後に発掘された数多くの映像をDVD2枚に収録したのが本作である。1964年の映像はメインとなるカメラAの他、BとCも新たにデジタル・トランスファーを行ない画質と音質がアップしている他、初登場となる別カメラの映像、特に今まで未収録だった「Can’t Buy Me Love」の映像は大発見といっても過言ではあるまい。1965年の映像はこれまた初登場のカラー映像でステージを捉えた貴重なものである。その他記者会見やプライベート映像まで、本作で初登場となるハリウッドボウル関連の映像を小出しにせずふんだんに収録している。美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。日本語帯付。
