WISHBONE ASH in 1974, which was in its heyday, sending out the live album Daimyo board “LIVE DATE”. The sound board album is reprinted.
This work contains two superb sound sources. It is a 2-disc set that mainly includes the full sound board of “January 19, 1974 Pasayk performance” and bonus recording of “November 18, 1976 Long Beach performance” for 3 songs. Both are wonderful, but the key to this work is of course the 1974 Pasayk performance. This is the 1973/1974 WISHBONE ASH. “LIVE DATE” was recorded in the “WISHBONE FOUR Tour” act “British # 2”, but the performance of this work is about half a year later. It was a concert that was the third performance of “North America # 5” at the beginning of the repartitioned “LIVE DATES Tour”.
This show is also known for the three songs “The Pilgrim”, “Blowin’ Free” and “Time Was” that were broadcast on the radio, but this work is the complete version master. It is a full sound board that lasts about 1 hour and 53 minutes. Moreover, not only is it long, but the quality is superb. It is a completely official grade that has been perfectly recorded and mixed, and it is not uncomfortable even if it is played randomly with that daimyo board “LIVE DATE”.

Involuntarily, the Pasaiku sound source has become long, but the bonus Long Beach sound source is not lost at all. The sound is also completely official, and even if it is only 5 songs, only 2 songs are covered with “LIVE DATE 2”. “LIVE DATES” is historically famous as a masterpiece that sums up the golden age, but the “LIVE DATES Tour” that followed the live album was an even more impressive culmination. これが1973年／1974年のWISHBONE ASH。『LIVE DATE』は“WISHBONE FOUR Tour”の一幕「英国#2」で録音されましたが、本作のパサイク公演はその約半年後。仕切り直しされた“LIVE DATES Tour”の序盤「北米#5」３公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
このショウは「The Pilgrim」「Blowin’ Free」「Time Was」の３曲がラジオ放送されたことでも知られるのですが、本作はその完全版マスター。約１時間53分に及ぶフル・サウンドボードなのです。しかも、長いだけではなくクオリティも超極上。収録もミックスもカンペキに作り込まれた完全オフィシャル級で、実際あの大名盤『LIVE DATE』とランダム再生させても違和感ないほどです。
そのパーフェクト・クオリティで画かれるのは、『LIVE DATE』とは似て非なるフルショウ+α。メインの1974年パサイク音源はテッド・ターナー時代なので『LIVE DATE』と、ボーナスの1976年ロングビート音源はローリー・ワイズフィールド交代後なので『LIVE DATE 2』と比較しつつ、セットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。メインのパサイク音源は黄金時代の濃縮ベスト。『LIVE DATE』では聴けない４曲が美味しいわけですが、単にレアなのではなく名曲「Sometime World」「Time Was」も披露されているのが嬉しい。これにより本作と『LIVE DATE』を合わせることで『ARGUS』の全７曲中６曲まで楽しむ事ができるのです（ちなみに、唯一外れているのは「Leaf and Stream」。この曲の初演はテッド脱退後なので黄金時代のライヴ録音は存在しません）。また、セットだけでなく演奏も絶頂だから素晴らしい。例えば、大曲「Phoenix」。『LIVE DATE』でもスタジオ録音を超える17分以上の熱演でしたが、本作は更に苛烈に約23分という大熱演なのです。
思わずパサイク音源だけで長くなってしまいましたが、ボーナスのロングビーチ音源もまったく負けていない。サウンドは同じく完全オフィシャル級ですし、わずか５曲ではあっても『LIVE DATE 2』との被りは２曲だけ。しかも『NEW ENGLAND』ナンバーのレア度は本編パサイク音源をも超えるほどです。
『LIVE DATES』は黄金時代を総括する大名盤として歴史に名高いわけですが、かのライヴアルバムを受けて行われた“LIVE DATES Tour”はさらに極めつけな集大成でした。本作は、そんな究極ツアーを教えてくれる超極上サウンドボード・アルバムです。それこそ『LIVE DATES』と並べて楽しんでいただきたい「てっぺん」の一作。どうぞ、存分にご堪能ください。
