While announcing a new lineup, the new TOTO whose activities have been frozen in the new Corona Pandemic. Introducing a live album where you can experience the best of the latest tour that has finally started.
Two performances are included in this work. It is a two-disc set with “February 28, 2022 Boston performance” on DISC 1 and “March 2, 2022 Detroit performance” on DISC 2. The new lineup was announced in October 2020. After that, the next month, he performed a streaming live “WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS”, but he did not show any movement for more than a year. After all, the tour was finally realized in 2022. Live activities have started as the opening act of JOURNEY’s “FREEDOM Tour”. This work is a live album of such a latest tour. It was a concert that corresponded to the 5th and 6th performances.
This work, which contains these two performances, is also a confrontation work with the famous recording artist Gachinko. The famous recorders are “Farve4” and “guitard”. Both of them are “modern masters” who have been recording famous recordings, and “Farve4” recorded the Boston performance (DISC 1) and “guitard” recorded the Detroit performance (DISC 2). In addition, the JOURNEY edition, which will be released at the same time this week, is also a work of both, and there are many other recording confrontations of near miss. Recently, at NIGHT RANGER, “Farve4″‘s “FOXBORO 2020 (Shades 1179)” and “guitard”‘ s “HALLOWEEN 2020 (Shades 1265)” were shaving over the title of the tour’s masterpiece.
It is this work that both modern males collide head-on. In fact, both are superb products with “super”. The core is very thick and the air feeling is super clear. If you are told that it is an FM broadcast, rather than a sense of distance, you will definitely believe in the dust. However, even if both standards are superb, their individuality is quite different. “Boston performance (DISC 1: Farve 4 recording” is characterized by high-pitched sound, and the performance sound that penetrates the crystal clear atmosphere is brilliant and dynamic at the same time.
On the other hand, “Detroit performance (DISC 2: guitarard recording)” is rich, rich and beautiful. 新ラインナップを発表しつつ、新型コロナ・パンデミックで活動が凍結されていた新生TOTO。遂に開始された最新ツアー極上体験できるライヴアルバムが登場です。
そんな本作に収められているのは２公演。「2022年２月28日ボストン公演」をDISC 1に、「2022年３月２日デトロイト公演」をDISC 2に配した２枚組です。新ラインナップを発表したのは2020年10月。その後は翌月にはストリーミング・ライヴ『WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS』を行ったものの、１年以上何の動きも見せなかった。結局、2022年になってようやくツアーが実現。JOURNEYの”FREEDOM Tour”のオープニング・アクトとしてライヴ活動が始まりました。本作は、そんな最新ツアーのライヴアルバム。まずは、そのスケジュールからショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2022年のスケジュール。２月から５月まで全米を巡り、夏はヨーロッパという計画です。ただし、ご存知の通り現在のヨーロッパはいつ第三次世界大戦になってもおかしくない状況。このスケジュールが無事に遂行される事を祈らずにはいられません……。ともあれ、本作の２公演はツアーが始まったばかりの序盤。５公演目と６公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんな２公演を収めた本作は、名録音家ガチンコ対決作でもある。その名録音家とは“Farve4”氏と“guitard”氏。両者はどちらも名録音を連発している「現代の名匠」でして、ボストン公演（DISC 1）を“Farve4”氏、デトロイト公演（DISC 2）を“guitard”氏が録音したのです。また、今週同時リリースとなるJOURNEY編も両者の作品で、他にも両者はニアミスの録音対決が多い。最近ではNIGHT RANGERで“Farve4”氏の『FOXBORO 2020（Shades 1179）』と、“guitard”氏の『HALLOWEEN 2020（Shades 1265）』がツアー最高傑作の座を巡って鎬を削っていました。
そんな現代の両雄が真正面からぶつかり合っているのが本作。実際、どちらも「超」が付く極上品。芯は極太ですし、空気感は超クリア。距離感などまるでなく「FM放送です」と言われたら微塵も疑わずに信じてしまうところです。ただ、基準は両者とも超極上でも個性はかなり異なる。「ボストン公演（DISC 1：Farve4録音」は高音のヌケに特色があり、クリスタル・クリアな空気感を貫く演奏音はキラキラと輝き、同時にダイナミックでもあります。
それに対して「デトロイト公演（DISC 2：guitard録音）」はリッチで濃厚、そして美麗。密度が高く、空気感もクリアと言うより大気が存在しないかのような激タイト感。そして、伸びよりもずっしりとした手応えが素晴らしく、艶やかな音色がトロけるように美しい。ボストン録音が「輝きの音」だとするなら、デトロイト録音は「手触りの音」とでも言えそうなビロード感覚のサウンドなのです。
そんな個性豊かな極上サウンドで描かれるのは「今のTOTO」を伝えてくれる２公演。両者ともセットは同一ですので、ここでまとめて整理しておきましょう。
