デビュー50周年を超え、今なお精力的に活動を続けているSTYX。その最新ステージを現場体験できる極上映像が到着です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2023年８月30日アレンタウン公演」。その絶景オーディエンス・ショットです。新型コロナ・パンデミック空けと共に『CRASH OF THE CROWN』を発表した彼らはその後ツアー三昧。その勢いは２年が経過した現在も衰えていません。そんな近況を知る意味でも、まずは現在進行中の活動スケジュールからおさらいしてみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2023年／2024年のSTYX。年間90公演という規模は全盛期にも劣らないわけですが、実は2000年代に入ってから（パンデミックの2020年／2021年を除き）ずーっとこのペース。日本ではなかなかSTYXの情報が入ってきませんが、とんでもないワーカホリックぶりです。現在は「米国#5」を控えて約３週間のオフを取っているところで、本作のアレンタウン公演はその直前。「米国#4」の19公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、「超」の付く絶景映像。視界に遮蔽物が入ってこないわけですが、それだけでは済まない。撮影が始まった最初の一瞬からするとかなりの前方席（５列目くらい？）らしいのですが、そこからすぐグイグイとズーム。あっと言う間にメンバーがドアップになっていき、その後はプロショットの１アングルの様な超絶景に早変わり。もはや撮影ポジションさえ分からないアップ映像が連続するのです。
そして、そんな映像美に加えてカメラワークも匠の業。超アップのままズーム・アウトはせずに各メンバーを渡り歩くように見どころを追っていくのですが、その動きに迷いがない。狙ったメンバー１人ひとりを画面のド真ん中に据えたままアクションを追い、別のメンバーに視点を移すにしても揺れも迷いもなくシュート。そのキビキビした動きと安定感からすると、三脚を使用しているのかも知れません。
そんな絶景＆匠のカメラワークで描かれるのは、栄光の50年を濃縮したようなフルショウ。ここでセットも整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。基本的には「Mr. Roboto」に至るまでの黄金グレイテスト・ヒッツ。そこに新曲３つと前作の「Khedive」を散りばめており、歴史の総括と言うよりは「往年＋近年」にフォーカスしたスタイルです。
そして、そんなセットを綴るパフォーマンスがスゴい。凄すぎる。トミー・ショウは間もなく古希を迎えますし、ジェイムズ・ヤング＆チャック・パノッツォに至ってはそれ以上。ところが、演奏は溌剌としていてアンサンブルも躍動感たっぷり。ドラマティックに煽りまくる生演奏を目の当たりにした観客も凄まじい盛り上がりで、単なる懐メロとはまったく次元が違う。「年間90公演」というハイペースをキープし続けている現役感は伊達ではないのです。
21世紀も20年以上が経過し、往年のスター達も表舞台から消えたり、見る影もなかったり。それ自体が日常になった2023年に、まさかSTYXが全盛期ばりの躍動的なステージを繰り広げてくれるとは。本作は、想像を超えた次元に到達したSTYXの最新ライヴを特等席体験できるのです。フルショウを独り占めするような映像傑作。どうぞ、存分にお楽しみください。

STYX has surpassed their 50th anniversary since their debut and continues to be active. The best video that allows you to experience the latest stage on-site has arrived.
This work was filmed at the “August 30, 2023 Allentown performance.” This is the spectacular audience shot. They released “CRASH OF THE CROWN” right after the new coronavirus pandemic, and then went on tour. The momentum has not diminished even after two years. To get an idea of what’s going on, let’s first take a look at the current schedule of activities.

This is the 2023/2024 STYX that has been announced so far. The scale of 90 performances a year is comparable to the heyday, but in fact, it has been at this pace ever since the beginning of the 2000s (except for the pandemic in 2020/2021). It’s hard to find information about STYX in Japan, but he’s an incredible workaholic. Currently, they are taking about three weeks off in preparation for “USA #5”, and the Allentown performance of this work will be held just before that. This was the 19th concert of “USA #4″.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, is a spectacular video with the “super” rating. There are no obstructions in your field of vision, but that’s not enough. From the first moment the shooting started, it seemed like I was sitting quite far in the front seat (about the 5th row?), but from there I quickly zoomed in. In the blink of an eye, the members became close-ups, and then the scene quickly changed to a super-stunning view that looked like an angle from a professional shot. There is a series of close-up videos where you can no longer even tell the shooting position.
In addition to the visual beauty, the camera work is also the work of a master craftsman. It stays super close up without zooming out, and follows the highlights as if walking between each member, but there is no hesitation in the movement. You can follow the action while keeping each member you are aiming for in the center of the screen, and even if you shift your focus to another member, you can shoot without wavering or hesitation. Judging from its crisp movement and sense of stability, it may be that it is using a tripod.
With such spectacular scenery and masterful camera work, a full show that seems to have concentrated 50 years of glory is created. Let’s organize the set here.

…and it looks like this. Basically, the golden greatest hits up to “Mr. Roboto”. Three new songs and the previous work “Khedive” are interspersed with it, and the style focuses on “the past + recent years” rather than a historical summary.
And the performance that spells out such a set is amazing. Too amazing. Tommy Shaw will soon reach his old age, and James Young & Chuck Panozzo will be even older. However, the performance was lively and the ensemble was full of dynamism. The audience was incredibly excited as they witnessed the dramatic live performance, and it was on a completely different level than just a simple nostalgic melody. The sense of activeness that continues to maintain a high pace of “90 performances a year” is not just for show.
More than 20 years have passed into the 21st century, and the stars of yesteryear have disappeared from the spotlight or are no longer seen. I never thought that in 2023, when this has become a daily thing, STYX would perform on a lively stage just like their heyday. In this work, you can experience the latest live performance of STYX that has reached a dimension beyond imagination. A video masterpiece that monopolizes the entire show.
