A set of 2 DVDs containing the TV programs of Olivia Newton-John who showed a moving stage last year (2003). She has been releasing hit songs since around 1972, so it’s okay to be a “cute aunt” even now in her 50s, but after all the images of the 70’s are cute without any price. .. Of course, there are overwhelmingly many hit songs in the 70’s, so there are so many songs that you hardly know in any scene. I envy these TV programs because they were constantly on the air overseas. By the way, Disc 1 of this work begins with a 50-minute program called “Special” in 1976. As if looking at a short conte, songs are played one after another in a short scene change, but it seems that the entanglement with a veteran male singer is really unpleasant on the way. For example, it looks like a sad thing like Nanako Matsushima is dating a tunnels gag. But in the case of Olivia, she has a transcendental singing spirit, so she won’t lose sight of herself in any situation, and she promises that just going my way will be a big deal in the future. It looks like a song and is wonderful. The highlight of Disc 2 is the 45-minute special program “Only Olivia” and a duet show with Kenny Rogers. Other scenes such as “Midnight Special” and “American Music Awards” are also recorded, but the total recording time is 155 minutes for 9 programs in total. It’s mostly old, so the quality of the video is decent, but the sound is solid. Producer John Ferrar himself sings “Sam” on the piano, which makes me cry. オリビアの絶頂期である70年代のテレビ映像を中心に155分に渡ってコンパイルした映像決定版。アメリカで1976年に放送された「A Special」とイギリスで1977年に放送された「Only Olivia」とマストとなる２つの特別番組を含む９番組を収録。78年に制作された「OLIVIA」のみが過去にレーザー・ディスクでリリースされ、他のプログラムは入手困難な状況の中、この度当時のテレビ放送を撮り溜めたビデオテープより、高画質パートを中心に抜粋しての収録してあり、特にスペシャル番組として作成された「A Special Olivia Newton-John」「Only Olivia」は70年代を代表する番組として記録されており、特に「A Special Olivia Newton-John」は現状ではこれ以上のクオリティは望めない映像で収録されています。他にも上質なクオリティで、「ミッドナイト・スペシャル」「アメリカン・ミュージック・アワード」等が収録されています。（ラストのケニー・ジョーンズのデュエット・ショウはやや画質が落ちます。）全体的にいかにもビデオ落としと言った映像ですが、コレクターズ・ビデオのレイトとしてはどれも「Ａ」ランクの上質なものばかり。全体のクオリティも上々で音声も安定しており、ビギナーでも問題なく楽しめます。可憐で美しい70年代のオリビアのパフォーマンスと歌声に、ファンならずとも画面に目が釘付けになってしまうことでしょう。資料価値としても抜群の質・内容を誇る決定版２枚組。オリビア・ニュートン・ジョンのコレクターからも高い評価を受けた旧マスターポート時代の２枚組DVDRが装いを新た登場です。

昨年(2003年）感動的なステージを見せてくれたオリビア・ニュートン・ジョンのTV番組をコレクションしたDVD2枚組。72年頃からヒット曲をバンバン出していた彼女だから、50代となった今でも「かわいいおばちゃん」的な存在で良いのだろうけれど、やっぱり70年代の映像は掛け値なしにキュートである。もちろんヒット曲も圧倒的に70年代に多いので、どの場面でもほとんど知らない曲がないほどに充実している。海外ではこうしたTV番組がひっきりなしにオンエアされていたのだから、うらやましい。さて本作のディスク1は76年のその名も「スペシャル」という50分番組から始まる。ショートコントを見るかごとく短い場面転換で次々と歌が流れていくが、途中ベテラン男性歌手との絡みはさすがに嫌々やっているようだ。例えばとんねるずのギャグに松嶋奈々子が付き合わされているような切ないものに見える。しかしオリビアの場合、全てを超越した歌心を持っているため、どんなシチュエーションであっても自分自身を見失わず、ただひたすらマイウェイをいくところは将来大物になることが約束されていたがごとく映って素晴らしい。ディスク2の見所は45分にもおよぶ「オンリー・オリビア」という特番と、ケニー・ロジャースとのデュエット・ショウだろうか。他に「ミッドナイト・スペシャル」や「アメリカン・ミュージック・アワード」などのシーンも収録されているが、全部で9番組分で合計155分もの収録時間である。ほとんど年代ものなので、ビデオのクオリティはそこそこといった感じだが、音はしっかりしている。プロデューサーのジョン・フェラー自らが弾くピアノにのせて歌う「サム」などは泣けて来る。こうして若かりし頃のオリビアを見て思うのは、昨年来日公演で見せてくれたパフォーマンスが、決して我々の夢を壊さないでくれているということだ。
