SAUCER FUL OF SECRETS, an early floyd reproduction project led by Nick Mason, who overcame the new corona pandemic and revived for the first time in three years. The latest live album, which will be the first report, will be released at the same time.
This work is the first of two consecutive releases at the same time. It is a superb audience recording of “April 19, 2022 Oxford performance”. At our shop, we have repeated real-time reports from the debut gig of SAUCER FUL OF SECRETS, but their new work is the first in 3 years. In the meantime, the official work “LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE” has also appeared, and it’s a good opportunity, so let’s look back on their steps in the big picture.

This is a panoramic view of the activities of NICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS that have been announced so far. Originally, it was planned to resume live activities with the release of “LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE”, but the new Korona-ka occurred there. The scheduled live was postponed and only came true in the spring of 2022. This work is the first report of the sound that conveys such a current “ECHOES Tour”. This is a live album recorded in the 5th performance of “UK # 4”.
This work recorded at such a show is the best. Anyway, I can’t complain. The core is very thick, it’s fiercely on, the sound is elegant and gorgeous, and its habit details are fine … Everything is great. If you want to make it difficult, it means that there is a cheer that seems to be the recording person at the start of the performance, but even so, you do not talk during the performance, and the mood that impresses you with the long-awaited resumption of the tour is also real. Is the audience recording in 2022 so great? It’s a level of recording that impresses with the technological progress itself.
The best sound is drawn in the 2022 full show, which has changed its taste after three years. There is also a new story that was released for the first time this year, so let’s organize all the songs while checking.

…… And it looks like this. The concept of PINK FLOYD’s debut single to “Obscured By Clouds” was the same as before, and three new songs were introduced.
And this work is also a point of playing in addition to the set. After all, this work is the 5th performance since the restart, and I haven’t mastered it yet. Of course, I don’t feel any hesitation or danger in the ensemble that would have been rehearsed firmly, but when I suddenly see it, I like it. I made a mistake in the beginning of the show with “Fearless” and in the middle of the show with “The Nile Song”, and I’m starting over. Of course, the hall was filled with laughter and the mood was at home. It’s a live album that is delicious even with such peacefulness.
At the beginning of the tour, trial and error is interesting for any band, but this work is a good example. The sharpness and tension of the refined performance is set aside for future enjoyment, but what flows out of this work is a fresh scene that can only be heard now. A full live album where you can experience the whole story with superb sound. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

新型コロナ・パンデミックを乗り越え、３年ぶりに復活したニック・メイスン率いる初期フロイド復刻プロジェクトSAUCERFUL OF SECRETS。その第一報となる最新ライヴアルバムが２作同時リリース決定です。
本作は２連作同時リリースの第一弾。「2022年４月19日オックスフォード公演」の超極上オーディエンス録音です。当店ではSAUCERFUL OF SECRETSのデビューギグからリアルタイム・レポートを重ねてきましたが、彼らの新作は３年ぶり。その間に公式作品『LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE』も登場しましたし、良い機会ですので彼らの歩みを全体像で振り返ってみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されているNICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETSの活動全景。本来であれば『LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE』のリリースに合わせてライヴ活動を再開する予定でしたが、そこで新型コロナ禍が発生。予定されていたライヴは延期となり、2022年の春になってようやく実現したのです。本作は、そんな現行“ECHOES Tour”を伝える音の第一報。「英国#4」の５公演目で記録されたライヴアルバムです。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、ザ・極上。とにかく文句の付けようがない。芯は極太だわ、猛烈にオンだわ、鳴りは上品でゴージャスだわ、そのくせディテールも細やかだわ……。すべてが素晴らしい。ムリクリ難クセを付けるなら開演時に録音者本人と思われる声援が入っていることですが、それにしても演奏中にしゃべるわけではありませんし、待望のツアー再開に感極まるムードがリアルでもある。2022年のオーディエンス録音はここまで凄いのか……そんな技術の進歩そのものに感動するレベルの録音なのです。
その極上サウンドで描かれるのは、３年を経てひと味趣向の変わった2022年のフルショウ。今年初公開となった新ネタもありますので、チェックしながら全曲を整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。PINK FLOYDのデビューシングルから『雲の影』までという初期にこだわったコンセプトは従来通りで、新たに３曲が導入されました。
そして、本作はセットに加えて演奏ぶりもポイント。何しろ、本作は再始動から５公演目で、まだまだこなれていない。もちろん、しっかりとリハーサルを重ねたであろうアンサンブルに迷いも危うさも感じませんが、ふとした時にスキを見せる。ショウの序盤なら「Fearless」、中盤なら「The Nile Song」で出だしを間違えており、やり直しているのです。もちろん、場内は笑いに包まれ、ムードは何ともアットホーム。そんな和やかささえも美味しいライヴアルバムなのです。
どんなバンドでもツアー初期は試行錯誤が面白いものですが、本作はその好例。磨き抜かれた演奏の鋭さや緊張感は今後の楽しみに取っておくとして、本作から流れ出るのは、今でしか聴けないフレッシュな現場なのです。その一部始終を超極上サウンドで体験できるフル・ライヴアルバム。どうぞ、存分に味わい尽くしてください。
