James Taylor, who moved to Colombia and built his heyday, won six consecutive platinum albums from “JT” to “NEW MOON SHINE” and was still popular in the 90’s. Introducing the finest soundboard album born from that stage.
It was Halloween 30 years ago that was included in this work. This is a stereo sound board recording of “October 31, 1991 New York City Performance”. In the “NEW MOON SHINE” era, the traditional official board “LIVE” was left, but of course this work is a separate performance. In order to understand the positional relationship of those areas, let’s first look back on the schedule at that time.

This is James Taylor in 1991/1992. The official version “LIVE” was produced more than a year after the album was released, but the performance of this work in New York was earlier. It was the 12th performance of “North America # 1”, which was released with “NEW MOON SHINE”.
This work recorded at such a show is a superb stereo sound board with “super”. According to one theory, it is also called FM broadcasting, but as a sound type, it is an outflow system that is directly connected to the mix table. I can hear the loud cheers and the voices of the audience laughing at jokes, so I won’t scream, but that’s a long way off. If the playing sound is strong, Taylor’s singing voice is thick, and even simple singing is dynamic, and even if it is played by a large group of 10 people, it is beautifully separated. It’s a “completely official class” without any questions, but compared to the actual official version “LIVE”, there is no echo processing and the outline is even more vivid. It depends on your taste, but if you are a sound board enthusiast, it is a transcendental quality that can be said to be “beyond the official”.
The vivid sound is a full show that is similar to “LIVE”. The members are the same up to the chorus, but the details of the set are different. Let’s organize by comparing here.

… And it looks like this. Immediately after the release of the album, he performed 6 songs with plenty of “NEW MOON SHINE” numbers. In particular, “Down In The Hole” is an extremely rare song that has been played only to the extent that it can be counted. Also, even in the past songs, “Wandering” and “Never Die Young” were only a few times during this tour.
It is a superb stereo sound board album that can transcend even the solo live work “LIVE” that won the double platinum. An inevitable two-disc set that is a masterpiece as a single musical piece and can be enjoyed as a sister work of the official masterpiece. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

Although it is “completely official grade” without any questions, there is no echo processing compared to the actual official board “LIVE”, the outline is more vivid, and if you are a sound board enthusiast, it is a transcendental quality that can be said to be “over official”. The repertoire that you can’t even hear in “LIVE”, such as the new songs from “NEW MOON SHINE” and “Wandering” and “Never Die Young”, is an absolute superb board.

コロンビアに移籍して全盛を築いた『JT』から『NEW MOON SHINE』まで６作連続でプラチナ・アルバムに輝き、90年代も根強い人気を誇っていたジェームス・テイラー。そのステージから生まれた極上サウンドボード・アルバムが登場です。
そんな本作に収められているのは30年前のハロウィン。「1991年10月31日ニューヨーク・シティ公演」のステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。『NEW MOON SHINE』時代というと伝統の公式盤『LIVE』も残されましたが、もちろん本作は別公演。その辺の位置関係を理解する意味でも、まずは当時のスケジュールを振り返ってみましょう。

これが1991年／1992年のジェームス・テイラー。公式盤『LIVE』はアルバム発売から１年以上経ってから満を持して制作されたわけですが、本作のニューヨーク公演はもっと初期。『NEW MOON SHINE』発売の熱狂覚めやらぬ「北米#1」の12公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、「超」が付く極上のステレオ・サウンドボード。一説にはFM放送とも言われますが、音のタイプとしてはミックス卓直結の流出系。大歓声やジョークに笑う観客の声も聞こえるのでシラけはしませんが、それも遠目。演奏音も骨太ならテイラーの歌声も肉厚で、シンプルな弾き語りでもダイナミックであり、10人の大所帯で鳴らしても綺麗にセパレートしている。問答無用に「完全オフィシャル級」なわけですが、実際の公式盤『LIVE』と比べるとエコー処理がなく、輪郭が一層ビビッド。好みにもよりますが、サウンドボード・マニアなら「オフィシャル超え」と言っても良い超絶クオリティなのです。
そのビビッド・サウンドで描かれるのは『LIVE』と似て非なるフルショウ。メンバーはコーラスまで同一ですが、セットのディテールが異なります。ここで比較しながら整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。アルバム発売直後とあってか『NEW MOON SHINE』ナンバーをたっぷり６曲も披露。特に「Down In The Hole」は指折り数えられるほどしか演奏されていない激レア曲です。また、過去の曲にしても「Wandering」や「Never Die Young」はこのツアー中にホンの数回だけでした。
ダブル・プラチナムに輝いたソロライヴ作『LIVE』にも肉薄する……いや、超越しかねない超極上のステレオサウンドボード・アルバムです。ひとつの音楽作品としても傑作であり、オフィシャル名盤の姉妹作としても楽しめる不可避の２枚組。どうぞ、心ゆくまで存分にお楽しみください。
