“WIND & WUTHERING Tour” was the last tour of Steve Hackett. A masterpiece that further enhances the soundboard collection is now available.
What is recorded in this work is “February 16, 1977 Chicago Performance”. It is a stereo sound board recording that conveys the whole picture. “WIND & WUTHERING Tour” is a famous sound board production area, and it is one of the best in all GENESIS careers in terms of mass. First, let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the tour as a whole, along with the masterpieces of each leg.
・ January 1-23: UK (20 performances) ← * SOUTHAMPTON 1977
・ February 2-May 1: North America (44 performances) ← here
・ May 10-22: South America (12 performances) ← * THE BRAZILIAN ’77
《“SPOT THE PIGEON” released on May 20》
・ June 2-July 3: Europe (20 performances) ← * DEFINITIVE ZURICH 1977
《October 8th Steve Hackett leaving / 14th “SECONDS OUT” released》
This is GENESIS in 1977. The Paris performance adopted for the official “SECONDS OUT” was the final “European” leg, but the Chicago performance of this work was the “North American” leg four months before that. Various soundboard albums are crowded from here as well, so let’s zoom in further and organize the collection.
● “North America” leg details
・ February 2-5 (3 performances)
* February 6 “ST. LOUIS WINDS”
・ February 8-15 (6 performances)
*February 16: Chicago performance ← This work
・February 17-March 17 (21 performances)
* March 19 “DALLAS 1977”
・ March 21 + 24 (2 performances)
* March 25 “SAN FRANCISCO 1977 1ST NIGHT”
・ March 26-May 1 (7 performances)
* Note: “*” marks are our soundboard collection.
… and it looks like this. Three consecutive night performances were held in Chicago, and this work is the second day. Speaking of the representative works of the “North American” leg, the two major press masterpieces “DALLAS 1977 (Virtuoso 480/481)” and “SAN FRANCISCO 1977 1ST NIGHT (Virtuoso 476/477)” reign, but this work is About a month ago was the 11th performance.
This show was broadcast on the radio and has been counted as one of the classics that has produced numerous previous episodes. This work is also the FM broadcast sound board, the latest master released recently. The sound is a radio album with a vintage feel. Because the press masterpieces “DALLAS 1977” and “SAN FRANCISCO 1977 1ST NIGHT” reign, we can’t say “completely official class!” Feeling and separation feeling, stereo feeling that pans left and right one by one with a little phrase is also tremendous. In terms of tone, there is also a sepia nuance that seems to be broadcast in the 70’s, but that is not bad either. It bleeds the spectacle of an era that has already passed 45 years.
And above all, the complete recording is delicious. Radio at that time had many incomplete broadcasts, but this work recorded a full show for 125 minutes. Finally, keep things organized.
● Gabriel era (6 songs)
・Tsukikage no Kishi: Firth Of Fifth/I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)
・Dazzling Broadway: The Carpet Crawlers/The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
・Other: The Musical Box (Closing Section) / Supper’s Ready
● 4 member era (9 songs)
・Trick of the Tale: Squonk/Robbery, Assault & Battery/Dance On A Volcano/Los Endos
・Seijaku no Arashi: One For The Vine (★)/Your Own Special Way (★)/…In That Quiet Earth (★)/Afterglow/Eleventh Earl Of Mar (★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard in “SECONDS OUT”.
It may be that the fact that even this sound board is introduced from the Amity label itself proves the historical abundance of the “WIND & WUTHERING Tour”. It certainly does not reach the two major press masterpieces, but there is no doubt that it is the most promising candidate to listen to “next”. It tastes as if the radio waves at that time arrived directly. A time warp album that transports you to 1977. Please take your time and enjoy.
★ Stereo sound board recording of “February 16, 1977 Chicago Performance”. The complete recording of the show is also delicious if the sense of close contact, the sense of separation, and the stereo feeling of panning to the left and right are great. However, it is a historical spectacle album with a tasteful vintage feeling that is slightly different from the two major press masterpieces “DALLAS 1977” and “SAN FRANCISCO 1977 1ST NIGHT”, and the sound that the radio waves at that time arrived directly.

Firth Of Fifth/I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) ・眩惑のブロードウェイ:The Carpet Crawlers/The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway ・その他:The Musical Box (Closing Section)/Supper’s Ready ●4人時代(9曲) ・トリック・オブ・ザ・テイル:Squonk/Robbery, Assault & Battery/Dance On A Volcano/Los Endos ・静寂の嵐:One For The Vine(★)/Your Own Special Way(★)/…In That Quiet Earth(★)/Afterglow/Eleventh Earl Of Mar(★) ※注:「★」印は『SECONDS OUT』で聴けない曲。
