The Anaheim performance of this work was the 11th performance of “North America # 2” at the end of such a world tour.

The individuality of the recording itself is essential, and some recordings can be dramatically improved with a little work, while others become more unnatural as they get rid of. And this work was a recording like the former sample.
Actually, the sound of brilliance flows out of this work. If you are experiencing the original sound of the net, you may have thought that “it’s a little caged for a wizard”, but this work is clear. As a matter of fact, it hasn’t been processed significantly, but even a small adjustment gives it an interesting edge and improves the lack of space. When this happens, the delicate details that you originally had will shine brilliantly, and the powerful core will reach you directly. Moreover, since the physical processing is slight, the natural feeling is not impaired, and even though it is said that it is a large household with violin and cello, the separate feeling that does not mix even if each note is folded is also great. これが1978年のELO。アルバム『OUT OF THE BLUE』は1977年10月にリリースされましたが、ツアーが開始されたのは1978年に入ってから。いきなり環太平洋から始まり、その一環で日本公演も実現したわけです。本作のアナハイム公演はそんなワールドツアーの終盤、「北米#2」の11公演目にあたるコンサートでした。

【原音の“伸びしろ”を引き出した極上サウンド】
さて、そのショウに立ち会ったジョン・ウィザードが記録した本作は、素晴らしいクリアさに目も醒める極上サウンド。正直なところネットに登場した原音は「ELOも高音質だけど、他はもっと凄い」とも言われているようですが、この録音の真価は原音に潜んでいた「伸びしろ」でした。そう、独自のマスタリングを施したところ、まるで別録音かのように瑞々しく、クリアに生まれ変わった。各所で述べて参りましたが、日進月歩のデジタル技術も決して魔法ではなく、どんな録音でも良くできるわけではない。あくまでも録音そのものの個性が肝心であり、ちょっとした作業で劇的に向上するものもあれば、イジればイジるほど不自然になってしまう録音もあります。そして、本作は前者の見本のような録音だったのです。
実際、本作から流れ出るのは輝きのサウンド。ネット原音を体験されている方なら「ウィザードにしてはちょっと籠もってるな」と思われたかも知れませんが、本作はそれがサッと晴れ渡っている。実のところ、大幅に加工しているわけでもないのですが、少しの調整でも面白いようにエッジが立ち、ヌケが向上。こうなると元々持っていた細やかなディテールがキラキラと輝きだし、力強い芯もキリッとダイレクトに届く。しかも、物理的な加工はわずかなためにナチュラル感も損なわれず、ヴァイオリンやチェロも擁する大所帯だと言うのに、各ノートが折り重なっても混じり合わないセパレート感も絶大。それこそ公式ライヴアルバム『LIVE AT WEMBLEY ’78』にも肉薄する極上サウンドなのです。
思わず『LIVE AT WEMBLEY ’78』を引き合いに出してしまいましたが、そのサウンドで描かれるショウは公式作を凌駕している。あの公式盤は約１時間に編集されていましたが、本作は一気貫通のオーディエンス録音。名曲群もたっぷり増量の２枚組なのです。そのゴージャスぶりを実感していただくためにも、公式作と比較しながら整理しておきましょう。
