アンディ・テイラーも参加した新作『DANSE MACABRE』の発売も迫っているDURAN DURAN。その最新ステージを体験できる衝撃映像が到着です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2023年９月13日ワシントンD.C.公演」。その超・絶景オーディエンス・ショットです。新作『DANSE MACABRE』の発売が来月に迫っておりますが、現在の彼らが実行しているのは“FUTURE PAST: 40th Anniversary Tour”。まずは、その全景を俯瞰しながら彼らの近況を整理してみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2022年／2023年のスケジュール。昨年は当店の名作『ROCK IN RIO LISBOA 2022』やコンサート・ドキュメンタリー映画『A HOLLYWOOD HIGH』が話題となりましたが、その後も順調にツアーを実施。現在は、最終レッグ「北米#5」が完遂されようとしているタイミングです。本作のワシントンD.C.公演は、その15公演目となるコンサートでした。
そんな現場を真空パックした本作はちょっと信じられないくらいの極上映像。まず、撮影ポジションですが……分からない。開演するや猛烈アップなメンバーが画面いっぱいに広がるのですが、それがあまりに近くて美しく、直写なのかスクリーン・ショットなのかも判別できない。それどころか、やや不思議なセット・デザインも相まってステージなのかイメージ画像なのかさえ迷う。しばらく演奏が進むとやっとステージ右側からの直写撮影と分かってくるのですが、画質はやはりスクリーン映像としか思えない。よくオーディエンス・ショットを褒める際に「まるでワンカメ・プロショット」と書きますが、本作の場合は本当に「どっちだろう？」と迷いながら判定していく次元なのです。
しかも、その迷いを加速させるのが異様なカメラワーク。サイモン・ル・ボンを中心に各メンバーを丁寧に追っているのですが、それがことごとくドアップで、えらく画になる。撮影ポジション自体は変化しないのでやはり客席撮影とは分かりますが、事前に「カッコよく見える角度」を分かって位置取りしたかのよう。前方席の影や遮蔽物もまるでない超絶景なのも当たり前にさえ感じられ、そういったオーディエンス・ショットの定型句では語れない次元の映像美なのです。
そんな異次元の特等席から見つめるのは、『DANSE MACABRE』の新曲も飛び出す最新のフルショウ。“40th Anniversary Tour”の映像と言えば、公式『A HOLLYWOOD HIGH』……と言いたいところですが、尺やセットは当店の名作プロショット『ROCK IN RIO LISBOA 2022』の方が近い。ここでは後者と比較しながら整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。「Night Boat」や「Careless Memories」も復活していますが、それ以上に新鮮なのは前作『FUTURE PAST』の「Anniversary」であり、新曲「Super Lonely Freak」「Danse Macabre」でしょう。特に２つの新曲はこの日が全世界初公開であり、まだ数回しか演奏していない。上記のように“40th Anniversary Tour”自体はまもなく終了しますし、『DANSE MACABRE』発売後のツアーはまだ発表になっていない。そんな状態の激レア曲もプロショット級の特等席から堪能できるのです。

This is the schedule for 2022/2023 that has been announced so far. Last year, our masterpiece “ROCK IN RIO LISBOA 2022” and the concert documentary film “A HOLLYWOOD HIGH” became a hot topic, and we have continued to tour smoothly since then. Currently, the final leg “North America #5″ is about to be completed. The Washington D.C. performance of this work was the 15th concert.
This work, which vacuum-packs such a scene, is a bit unbelievable and the best footage. First, as for the shooting position…I don’t know. As soon as the performance begins, the members in a close-up look fill the screen, but it is so close and beautiful that it is difficult to tell whether it is a direct shot or a screen shot. On the contrary, the somewhat strange set design makes it difficult to decide whether it is a stage or an image. After the performance has progressed for a while, it becomes clear that it was taken directly from the right side of the stage, but the image quality still makes me think that it is a screen image. When praising the audience shot, I often write, “It’s like a one-camera professional shot,” but in the case of this work, it’s really a dimension that you have to decide while wondering, “Which one is it?”
What’s more, the strange camera work accelerates that hesitation. It carefully follows each member, centering on Simon Le Bon, and it’s all close-up, and it’s a great picture. The shooting position itself doesn’t change, so you can tell that it’s an audience shot, but it seems like they knew in advance the angle that would look cool and decided on the position. It even feels natural that there are no shadows or obstructions from the front seats, and it is a dimension of visual beauty that cannot be described with such standard audience shots.
What you can watch from these special seats in a different dimension is the latest full show that will also feature new songs from “DANSE MACABRE.” Speaking of the “40th Anniversary Tour” video, I would like to say the official “A HOLLYWOOD HIGH”… but the length and set are closer to our masterpiece pro shot “ROCK IN RIO LISBOA 2022”.
