Drum hero: BRAND X, which was also a project to demonstrate the true character of Phil Collins. A miracle live album that captures the precious performance by an absolute master is born.
What is imbued with this work is “September 21, 1979 West Hollywood Performance (Early Show)”. It is the superb audience recording. At the end of 1978, the legendary first visit to Japan, “AND THEN THERE WERE THREE Tour”, was followed by the three GENESIS members, who stopped their activities. I devoted 1979 to the solo year. Among them, Phil chose to participate in BRAND X’s new work “PRODUCT” and the live activities that followed. This work is a live album where you can experience the precious full show at its best. Of course, speaking of live at that time, it is familiar from the official excavation live album “LIVE AT THE ROXY LA”. This is Phil Collins in 1979. Before and after the release of “PRODUCT”, he had four performances in the UK, but immediately after that, he went to the United States. We conducted a mini tour based on 2 performances a day. The record at that time is not perfect, but it is said that there are about 15 performances, 6 of which are continuous performances at the West Hollywood club “The Roxy”. This work was recorded in the first performance. Even though it was at the same venue as the official version “LIVE AT THE ROXY LA”, it was a completely different performance.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed show, is just the best. After all, since he is the original master of the absolute master Millard, I thought that he was not defeated by the official board “LIVE AT THE ROXY LA” … but that was not the case. It has completely surpassed the official version. Not “completely”. “Completely”. Well, “LIVE AT THE ROXY LA” itself is an excavation sound that is just a name, but even if it is left behind, the dimension that this work stands on is too amazing. The closeness of the narrow club and the stability and beauty unique to Mirrored stand out, and that’s why I would like you to discontinue “LIVE AT THE ROXY LA” right away and officially release this work instead.
The sound was outstanding even in the mirrored work, but it was possible because of the venue as well. Speaking of “The Roxy”, it is familiar to the GENESIS family, and it is a venue that has been used every time there are things like showcases and secret gigs. Mirrored, who loves GENESIS, has been repeatedly recorded, and he is familiar with its acoustic characteristics. It’s also a good opportunity to introduce “Mirrored’s The Roxy Collection”.

これが1979年のフィル・コリンズ。『PRODUCT』発売と前後して英国でも４公演行っていますが、その直後に渡米。１日２公演を基本としたミニ・ツアーを実施しました。当時の記録は完全ではないのですが、おおよそ15公演と言われ、そのうち６公演はウェスト・ハリウッドのクラブ“The Roxy”での連続公演。本作が記録されたのは、その最初の１公演目。公式盤『LIVE AT THE ROXY LA』と同会場ではあっても完全に別公演でした。
そのショウを真空パックした本作は、まさに極上。何しろ絶対名手ミラードのオリジナル・マスターですから、公式盤『LIVE AT THE ROXY LA』にも負けてない……と思いきや、それどころではありませんでした。もう完っ全に公式盤を凌駕している。「完全に」ではありません。「完っ全に」。まぁ『LIVE AT THE ROXY LA』自体が公式とは名ばかりの発掘サウンドだからでもありますが、それを差し置いても本作の立つ次元は凄すぎる。狭いクラブの密着感とミラードならではの安定感＆美しさが際立ち、それこそ『LIVE AT THE ROXY LA』を今すぐ廃盤にして、本作を代わりに公式リリースして頂きたいほどです。
ミラード作品でも傑出したサウンドとなったわけですが、それが可能だったのは会場にも要因があるのでしょう。“The Roxy”と言えばGENESISファミリーにとってもお馴染みでして、ショウケースやシークレット・ギグなど事ある毎に使われてきた会場。GENESISをこよなく愛するミラードも繰り返し録音しており、その音響特性も熟知しているのです。良い機会でもありますので「ミラードのThe Roxyコレクション」もご紹介しておきましょう。
