Speaking of Bob Dylan’s concerts he recorded, a series of recordings at the 1978 LA Universal Amphitheater and the 1979 Warfield Theater appeared several years ago, all of which were released as limited press CDs and were well received. Was sought. For enthusiasts around the world, it was thought that Dylan’s sound source left by Millard was from 1978 to 1979, but 10 years later, he was recording Dylan’s show again!
The new mirrored recording unearthed this time is Costa Mesa in September 1989. Speaking of the sound source that he left here in 1989, “COSTA MESA 1989 MIKE MILLARD FIRST GENERATION TAPES” that captured the stage of Neil Young in August is a new place in my memory, but a few weeks later, again Mirrored, who visited the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa, recorded Dylan’s show for the first time in a while.
A very interesting fact is hidden here. At that time, Neil was “FREEDOM” and Dylan was “OH MERCY”, and it was a time just before the release of masterpieces that proclaimed their resurrection as album artists. With the release of those albums, their resurrection is solid, but Millard went to see each show for the first time in a while, as if he had sniffed out that the two artists were coming back to life. I wonder if that will be the case.
Another interesting fact. When it comes to Dylan in 1989, there is a strong impression that high-quality audience recordings are rumbling. However, the sound quality of the sound sources that had been on the market only on this day was a disappointing level, and the sound quality rank was actually called “C” on fan sites. Even when JEMS released the mirrored sound source this time, he mentioned that “the past sound source was sound quality C rank”. It is hard to say that the quality of the audience recording in 1989 is B grade or lower.
Because of that, the sound source of the day was spread only among a limited number of traders until now, but it was not because it was a rare sound source, but because the sound quality was too bad. It seems that few people heard this day even if they were quite enthusiasts.
The recording by Mirrored that suddenly appeared in such a situation is like a different dimension of high sound quality. This time too, the stable on-sound image and outstanding sound quality. The only thing that happened at the end of “Rank Strangers To Me” was a cut due to a tape change, but fortunately the performance is about to stop, and JEMS picked up that part at the time of this release. , A level that hardly bothers me even if I say a cut. Certainly, it was possible to make up for this weak cut with a conventional sound source, but since there was too much difference in sound quality, I did not dare to add processing. And the performance of Dylan and the band just before the release of the masterpiece “OH MERCY” is in great shape. In 1988 and 1989, when GE Smith was a guitarist in the first place, the performance level was generally high, and in 1989, with the rapid changes in the set list, it was an irresistible time for enthusiasts. “HAGUE 1989” in June and “HOT AUGUST NIGHT 1989” in August, which were released on a limited press CD, proved that, but this September also performed at Costa Mesa.
