Billy Joel’s ongoing performances at Madison Square Garden have finally reached 80 times. The historic night took place on June 10th.
Since it is the 80th MSG show to commemorate, players who were enrolled in the New York Rangers, an ice hockey team whose home is the same venue, will appear and a ceremony will be held to celebrate the 80th show at the beginning of the live. It’s a historic performance. If that happens, even if you are not a maniac, you will want to listen to the latest performances.
As for Billy’s latest stage, the taper who calls himself bcironmaiden has released every time with stable quality, so the release will be confirmed when he uploads the sound source this time as well. It’s the 80th MSG.
However, when I listened to the sound source this time, the quality was only like the usual bcironmaiden. The sound image itself is not bad, but the sound quality is a little. It’s quite close to the midrange, and it makes me feel like a shobo as an audience recording in 2022.
There is no problem with the taper skill and equipment, and it is presumed that bcironmaiden could not secure a good positive due to the concentration of popularity at the 80th memorable show.
Because of its sound quality, I almost gave up on the release, but even so, when I thoroughly tried to equalize it using the latest technology, the sound quality with a narrow range suddenly changed to a rich and warm listening feeling. This is a quality that everyone can be proud of.
After all, this is the 80th MSG. With this equalization, the excitement of the crowd was steadily transmitted.
Especially, the live “Just the Way You Are”, “Vienna”, and the big chorus and the sense of presence that boiled at the end of the live are better than the original sound source, and you will be fascinated by listening to this with headphones. Still, the excitement of the surroundings does not block the performance (at all!).
And it is a further advantage that Billy’s singing voice is pushed out by equalization. It’s easy to hear and has been reborn, and even though it’s released on CD-R, it’s not overlooked.
In addition to that, the tension of the performance is high. There is no reason not to get enthusiastic when it comes to the 80th stage of MSG, but even so, the appearance of full throttle from the opening is clear below Billy.
After all, the story reminiscent of the old Billy who played the touch of Bruce Springsteen’s “Jungleland” exploded from the beginning. Also, it is a customary scene where you start playing a different song in the middle of “The River of Dreams”, but this time it is the R & B classic “Dancing In The Street”, and the band member Crystal is the lead vocal.
And “Modern Woman”, which was performed live at MSG in February for the first time in a long time and pleased enthusiasts, is back again. This is another great result, and it also conveys Billy’s enthusiasm for the 80th stage.

ビリー・ジョエルが継続して行っているマディソン・スクエア・ガーデンでの公演が遂に80回に到達。その歴史的な一夜は6月10日に行われました。
記念すべき80回目のMSGショーということから同会場をホームとするアイスホッケーチーム、ニューヨーク・レンジャースに在籍していた選手が登場してライブ序盤に80回目のショーを祝福するセレモニーが行われるなど、正に歴史的な公演と呼ぶに相応しい。そうなればマニアでなくとも最新公演を聞いてみたくなるというもの。
これまでもビリーの最新ステージに関してはbcironmaidenを名乗るテーパーが毎回を安定のクオリティにて公開してくれていましたので、今回も彼が音源をアップしてくれた段階でリリースは確定。ましてや80回目のMSGですし。
ところが、いざ今回の音源を聞いてみたところ、いつものbcironmaidenらしかぬクオリティ。音像自体は悪くない状態なのですが、音質がちょっと。かなり中域寄りで2022年のオーディエンス録音としてはショボさすら感じさせてしまう。
テーパーの手腕や機材に関しては全く問題ない訳で、これはbcironmaidenが80回目という記念すべきショーで人気が集中したことから良ポジを確保できなかったのだと推測されます。
その音質ゆえ一旦はリリースを諦めかけたくらいなのですが、それでも最新テクノロジーを駆使したイコライズを徹底してみたところ、レンジの狭い音質から一気に豊かでウォーミーさすら感じさせる聞き心地へと豹変。これなら皆様に胸を張って推せるほどのクオリティ。
何しろ80回目のMSGです。このイコライズによって詰めかけた観客の盛り上がりがひしひしと伝わってくるようになりました。
特にライブ「Just the Way You Are」に「Vienna」そしてライブ終盤で沸き上がる大合唱と臨場感が元の音源よりもマシマシ、これをヘッドフォンで聞くと思わずうっとりさせられることでしょう。それでいて周囲の盛り上がりが演奏を塞いでしまうようなことは（まったく！）ない。
そしてイコライズによってビリーの歌声が押し出されるようになったのはさらなるアドバンテージ。俄然聞きやすく生まれ変わってくれておりCD-Rでのリリースとは言えど抜かりはありません。
そこに加えて演奏のテンションが高い高い。MSG80回目のステージともなれば気合が入らない訳がないのですが、にしてもオープニングからフル・スロットルな様子はビリー以下、歴然としている。
何しろ序盤からブルース・スプリングスティーンの「Jungleland」のさわりを演奏するという往年のビリーを彷彿させるネタが炸裂。また「The River of Dreams」の途中で違う曲を演奏し始める恒例の場面ですが、今回はR＆Bクラシックの「Dancing In The Street」で、しかもバンドメンバーのクリスタルがリードボーカルという展開。
そして2月のMSGで久しぶりにライブ演奏されてマニアを喜ばせた「Modern Woman」が再び登場。これがまた素晴らしい出来栄えで、ここからもビリーの80回目ステージに対する気合が伝わってきます。
このように80回目のMSGショーに相応しい大熱演を今回もUXBRIDGEが最速リリースしてみせるのはもちろん、原音と比べて俄然聞きやすくなった本タイトルにて記念すべき一夜を心ゆくまでお楽しみください。これは名演！
