先にボーナスタイトルでリリースされ、ファンを震撼させた「1812」、「MARS」に続く、コージー・パウエルのリール・テープ・コレクション第三弾。「RIDE OF THE VALKYRIES」「COZY INTRO 15 IPS STEREO」と手書きされたコージー所有のAMPEXの7インチ・リール・テープからダイレクト収録。内容は1980年代前半に、マイケル・シェンカー・グループのコンサート・オープニングSEとして使用された「ワルキューレの騎行」の大元のテイクです。ファンはご存知の通り、このテイクは映画「地獄の黙示録」のサウンドドラックから「ORANGE LIGHT」と「RIDE OF THE VALKYRIES」をミックスさせたものが使われています。ただこのリールの収録時間は3分42秒と実際のライブ時のSEよりやや長めで1:30-2:12まで、コンサートでは使用されなかったヘリコプターでの兵士の会話が収録されています。ここからは推測ですが、このままライヴSEとして使用するには長いと判断したバンド側が、この部分をカットした編集ヴァージョンを作成し、実際のツアーで使用したのではないでしょうか。このテイクの凄いところは、ライヴではバンドがダーンと入り聴こえない部分がしっかりと聴こえることで、なんとSEのエンド部分に、オリジナルの爆裂音が重ねられていることが判ります。これは、今回のヴァージョンの出現によって初めて明かされた、ファンの間でもこれまで知られていなかった、重要な発見のひとつと言えるのではないでしょうか。「COZY INTRO」と手書きされていることから、おそらくコージー自身が発案して、完成させたライヴのオープニングSE「RIDE OF THE VALKYRIES」。ドラマチックなステージ効果を好むコージーらしいアイデアと言えるのではないでしょうか。全てのハードロックファンに、一度は聴いて頂きたいお宝マスターです。
