The obituary of Tim Bogert who shocked the whole world. BB & A’s new excavation live album that appeared as if in memory of his great achievement is now available.
It was “January 29, 1974 Edinburgh performance” that was imbued with such a work. It is the new excavation audience recording. The appearance of this recording is truly shocking. Even at this moment, enthusiasts from all over the world are shining brightly. The biggest reason is “date”. As a matter of fact, the last record of BB & A was “January 26, 1974”. Yes, it was “RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW (Wardour-165)” which is familiar in our shop. However, the performance of this work in Edinburgh is three days later. It wasn’t just a new excavation master, but the last sound of the trio called “the strongest in the rock world” was updated (By the way, the performance in Edinburgh in 1974 was said to be “January 9”. As I will explain later, it is unlikely that the date was wrong because it was a prestigious excavation, and it is unknown whether the conventional date was wrong or if there was another Edinburgh performance. I’m waiting for you).
Aside from that, this work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a final show, has a wonderful sound. The introduction of the Uxbridge label is not as good as “RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW”, but it is unfair that targets miracle recordings that are famous in history. This work is an exquisite vintage recording that does not seem to have been excavated beyond the space-time of 47 years. Especially wonderful is the freshness and neat sound of the master freshness, and the clear atmosphere. The first “freshness”, but this is amazing. After all, he is the 1st Jane Master who was sleeping in the archive collection of the prestigious “JEMS”, which is now the standard for vintage excavation. Moreover, it was “Krw_co” that was digitized. It is a collaborative project by two prestigious people who cannot avoid it in the historical study of British rock in the 70’s.
In fact, the sound proves the origin of this work. In terms of tone, it is not as close as “RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW”, and although it has a vintage feel, the core is powerful enough to offset the sense of distance, and the details are clear. The live at this time is also playing the new song of the 2nd album that ended in illusion, but the sound is enough to follow the lyrics. The song title “Song For The Lovely Lady” is unfamiliar, but this is also a new song for the 2nd album called “Laughin’Lady” in other performances. そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1974年１月29日エディンバラ公演」。その新発掘オーディエンス録音です。この録音の登場は、まさに衝撃。今この瞬間も世界中のマニアが色めき立っているのです。その最大の理由は「日付」。実のところ、これまでBB&A最後の記録とされていたのは“1974年１月26日”。そう、当店でもお馴染みの『RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW（Wardour-165）』だったのです。ところが、本作のエディンバラ公演はその３日後。単なる新発掘マスターというだけに留まらず、「ロック界最強」と呼ばれたトリオの最後の音が更新されたのです（ちなみに、これまで1974年のエディンバラ公演は“１月９日”とされていました。後述しますが、今回は名門の発掘なために日付が間違っている可能性は低く、従来の日付が間違っていたのか、別のエディンバラ公演が存在したのかは不明。今度のリサーチが待たれるところです）。
さておき、そんな最後期のショウを真空パックした本作は、サウンドも素晴らしい。Uxbridgeレーベルのご紹介という事からも『RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW』には及ばないわけですが、歴史に名高い奇跡録音を対象にするのはアンフェアというもの。本作は本作で、47年の時空を超えて発掘されたとは思えない絶品のヴィンテージ録音なのです。特に素晴らしいのは、マスター鮮度による瑞々しさと端正な鳴り、そしてクリアな空気感。最初の「鮮度」ですが、これが凄い。何しろ、今やヴィンテージ発掘の基準ともなっている名門「JEMS」のアーカイヴ・コレクションに眠っていた1stジャネ・マスターなのです。しかも、デジタル化したのも「Krw_co」。70年代ブリティッシュ・ロックの歴史研究において、避けては通れない２大名門による協働プロジェクトなわけです。
実際、本作はその出自を音が証明している。音色的には『RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW』ほどド密着ではなく、ヴィンテージ感もあるものの、その距離感を相殺してしまうほど芯が力強く、ディテールも鮮明。この時期のライヴは幻に終わった2ndアルバムの新曲も演奏しているわけですが、その歌詞も追えるほどのサウンドなのです。演奏曲の話が出ましたので、ここでセットも確認しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。実のところ、『RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW』と中身も曲順も同じ。「Song For The Lovely Lady」なる曲名は見慣れませんが、これも他公演では「Laughin’ Lady」と呼ばれている2ndアルバム用の新曲です。もちろん、セットは『RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW』でお馴染み（本稿に興味を持たれた方で、この超名盤を未体験の方はいないと思いますが、もしいらっしゃるようでしたら今すぐ体験してください）とは言え、演奏は異なる。さすがに３日後だけにクオリティやインプロヴィゼーションの切れは似ているものの、さらに一歩踏みこんだ進化の最終点はその事実だけでも背筋に凛としてくるのです。
