SANTANA in the era of “CARAVANSERAI” that fascinated the whole world while changing the lineup greatly. A sound board album that conveys the live performance is now available as an upgrade master.
This work was recorded on “December 3, 1972 Amsterdam Performance (Early Show)”. This is the soundboard recording. After the completion of “CARAVANSERAI”, SANTANA, with Neil Schon and Greg Lowry gone, started a large-scale world tour. The legendary first visit to Japan that produced the masterpiece “LOTUS” was also realized. Under such circumstances, what kind of position will the Amsterdam performance of this work be? First of all, let’s unravel from the schedule at that time.

This is the 1972/1973 SANTANA. They actively toured Oceania and Central and South America for the first time, and were developing a literal world tour. Among them, “LOTUS” was recorded at the Osaka performance in July 1973, but the Amsterdam performance of this work was seven months before that. The 21st performance of “Europe #1”. It was also an early show with two performances a day.
Such shows have long been known for their sound board recordings, but recently Low Gene’s upgrade master has been newly discovered. Collectors all over the world are excited. I don’t know the specific number of generations just by saying “Low generation”, but it’s just that there is no confirmation of the number of dubbings, and the sound proves that it is at most 1st generation or so. As a matter of fact, the conventional master was also a sufficiently high-quality sound board, but the tone had a vintage feel like a documentary movie, and the makurakotoba “For 50 years ago” was also necessary. However, this new master is an official grade that does not require that makurakotoba. Vintage-like shadows and cloudiness are quickly wiped away, the details of the performance stand out clearly, and on the contrary, the silent part is an abyss. The vivid separate feeling is shiny as if it was played just the other day.
Moreover, this work is also the best version. It’s great from the beginning, so I haven’t remodeled it greatly, but the net original sound had a little sweetness in the editing, and petit noise and fine silence occurred around the track division. This work neatly corrects such mistakes. Do you call it a further upgrade, it has achieved the “perfect degree that should be” suitable for official-class sound.
Furthermore, not only the sound but also the recording time has been lengthened. Angkor “Savor” and “Toussaint L’Overture”, which were previously cut in the master, are also included. So, what is a full set including such an increase? Let’s organize it by comparing it with “LOTUS”, which is a symbolic board at that time.

In 1972, SANTANA aimed for more world-wide music and activities while strengthening the jazz-rock color. This work is a live album that pours hot live performances into the brain, which can be said to be “Lotus’s prologue”. A shocking new excavation master that greatly exceeds the conventional version in terms of both quality and quantity, and is delighting collectors around the world.
