WINGER celebrated their 35th anniversary by announcing their first new album in nine years, SEVEN, and their first performance in Japan in five years. The latest video has arrived, perfect for preparing for the upcoming performance in Japan.
This work was filmed at “Huntsville Performance on June 9, 2023”. It is the superb view audience shot. With less than three months until their arrival in Japan, they are in the midst of a US tour. In order to know the latest situation, let’s review the current ongoing schedule first.

This is the 2023 schedule that has been announced so far. Reb Beach’s side business (?), WHITESNAKE, has not moved since the tour was suspended for a year, and it seems that WINGER is still active. The Huntsville performance of this work was the first day of the main “North America # 2” concert.
This work, which vacuum-packed such a scene, is an audience shot that depicts a “superb view”. It is taken from the first floor arena seat slightly to the right (reb side), but this is furiously close. Basically, the figure of the front passenger is out of frame, so I can’t say for sure, but it seems to be about the third row. Because it zooms further from that closeness, the scene looks almost like one angle of a professional shot.
And the camera work is skillful. The screen is mostly full of Kip Winger and Reb’s bust ups, but you can feel the sense of distance and movement. It’s clear that they are paying attention to “the most beautiful screen” instead of approaching the camera’s performance to the limit or changing the orientation without being busy. That’s why the sudden stage action, the eye contact between the members, the formation of the front 4 people, etc. are all kept in check. Having a good position is also an important point, but it is also the skill of the craftsman who makes the best use of the taste of that position.

Three videos have already been released from the new album, but so far only “Proud Desperado” has been released.
And the performance that spins such a set is also wonderful. Five years have passed since Paul Taylor, who has a lot of comings and goings, has been established, and the strongest lineup including John Ross is well-trained. Above all, Reb Beach’s playing is good. It’s a matter of course, but it feels really good to play your own music as you like. WHITESNAKE may not be lazy, but it is full of brilliance that is different from the skillful performance of other people’s songs.
There is still time, so I don’t know if the set will be the same in Japan, but just the thought of seeing this live performance in front of me made me gasp. It is a video masterpiece that allows you to fully experience such a perfect full show from a nearby seat. Far from soothing the feeling of being impatient to come to Japan, it is a sinful piece that stirs up even more. Please enjoy it to the fullest.

35周年を迎え、９年ぶりの新作『SEVEN』や５年ぶりの来日公演を立て続けに発表したWINGER。来る日本公演の予習にもピッタリな最新映像が到着です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2023年６月９日ハンツビル公演」。その絶景オーディエンス・ショットです。来日まで３ヶ月を切った現在、彼らは全米ツアーの真っ最中。その近況を知る意味でも、まずは現在進行形のスケジュールからおさらいしておきましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2023年のスケジュール。レブ・ビーチの副業（？）であるWHITESNAKEはツアー中断から１年が経った現在も動きがなく、その分WINGERで精力的に活動しているようです。本作のハンツビル公演は、そんな中でもメインとなる「北米#2」の初日にあたるコンサートでした。
そんな現場を真空パックした本作は、「絶景」を画に描いたようなオーディエンス・ショット。やや右寄り（レブ寄り）の１階アリーナ席から撮影されているのですが、これが猛烈に近い。基本的に前方客の姿はフレームアウトしているので断言できないものの、恐らくは３列目くらいのようです。それだけの近さから更にズームで迫るのですから、その光景はほとんどプロショットの１アングルのように見えるのです。
そして、カメラワークも巧み。おおよそはキップ・ウィンガーやレブのバストアップで画面いっぱいにしているのですが、その距離感にも動きにも余裕が感じられる。カメラの性能ギリギリまで迫ったり、忙しなく向きを変えるのではなく「一番キレイな画面」に気を配っているのは明らか。だからこそ、急なステージアクションやメンバー同士のアイコンタクト、フロント４人のフォーメーション等も逃さず押さえられている。ポジションが良いことも大事なポイントではありますが、その位置取りの旨みを活かしきる匠の撮影術でもあるのです。
そんな絶景で画かれるのは、来る日本公演への期待も掻き立てられるフルショウ。ここで気になる最新セットを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。もちろん軸となるのは２大名盤『WINGER』『IN THE HEART OF THE YOUNG』の代表曲群で、そこに『PULL』『KARMA』『SEVEN』ナンバーを散りばめている。新作からはすでに３曲のビデオが公開されているわけですが、今のところ「Proud Desperado」だけです。
そして、そんなセットを紡ぐパフォーマンスも素晴らしい。出入りの激しいポール・テイラーも定着して５年が経ち、ジョン・ロスも交えた最強ラインナップで練度十分。何よりレブ・ビーチの弾きっぷりが良い。当たり前の話ですが、自分の音楽を思いのままに弾くのは実に気持ち良さそう。WHITESNAKEが手抜きなわけではないのでしょうが、やはり他人の曲をそつなくこなすのとは次元の違う輝きに溢れています。
まだ間があるので日本でも同じセットになるかは分かりませんが、この生演奏を目の前で見られると思うだけで呼吸が荒くなっていく。そんな絶好調のフルショウを間近席からフル体験できる映像傑作です。来日が待ちきれない気持ちを鎮めるどころか、さらに熱く掻き立ててしまう罪作りな１枚。どうぞ、存分にお楽しみください。
