Mick and Keith would have clearly recognized that Steve Jordan’s participation brought back the 1960s numbers, the Brian songs. On the first day of LA’s SoFi stadium, the opening was finally realized with “Let’s Spend The Night Together”. Sure enough, it was an exciting start, and the live performance was incomplete. From there, the pattern of “19th Nervous Breakdown”, the opening of the Brian period, which has never been seen before, is really fresh. Above all, this is the first time in the history of Stones’ live that “Let’s Spend ~” will be the opening of the live performance.
Although this opening alone had such an impact that it could be said that it was a highlight, it was the first appearance of this tour “Rocks Off” that sank from Charlie’s memorial comment, which is indispensable for this tour. Again, Steve’s drumming has revived the momentum of the original aggressive performance, which is also a breathtaking repertoire. I think I couldn’t control my joy because this song was performed, and Taper sang in a whisper (laughs). Still, the performance is overwhelmingly aggressive, so I don’t really care about it.
Such momentum is still going on, and this is also the first appearance on this tour, “Get Off of My Cloud”. This also goes great with Steve’s drumming, again with the rule that his drumming revives the Brian repertoire. The Brian festival on the set list on the first day of LA ends with “Ruby Tuesday”, which is the first appearance on the tour. It’s a proof that Mick and Keith have begun to grasp Steve’s potential, as it has never been possible to perform songs from the Brian period in such a cohesive manner in the first half of the live.

Also, rather than the taper singing in “Rocks Off” that was heard earlier, this song is the next “Tumbling Dice”, then “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Honky Tonk Women”. The problem that there is a part where the taper faces away and the sound becomes far is missed. However, it’s ironic because when you return from there, you will feel the powerful sound image of this recording again. Because the sound source released this time is definitely a wonderful sound quality that convinces the quality of this tour top.
Regarding the audience recording of this day, two types of sound sources have appeared, the first one that appeared was due to the taper called TJ, and this time the sound source appeared in succession. This is a recording made by PIT, so the on-sound image including Mick’s singing voice is really wonderful. Therefore, the taper sometimes moves and the unstable part like the tip has occurred, but even if these problems are aside, the overwhelmingly on and powerful recording state will be a level that you can enjoy even if you are not a maniac.

Because of the high sound quality, I’m glad that you can clearly see how the performance of the new Stones with Steve is getting better and better. Keith’s singing “Connection”, which was a huge success for the first time in Nashville, was a wonderful performance on this day as well. On this day, “Ruby Tuesday” and the opening “Let’s Spend The Night Together” came to the same song, and it makes me want to call it “BETWEEN THE BUTTONS” night.
If there was only one regrettable performance on this day, it was “Midnight Rambler”. Up until now, Steve had been enthusiastic about his performance even if he couldn’t liven up the performance as exquisitely as Charlie, but on this day the performance ended without being able to grasp the peak. However, it is impossible for the new Steve to do everything perfectly just because the number of the Brian period showed such a clearness.
Overall, Steve’s drums were pulled and a very high-tension performance was unfolded, and it was wonderful that Mick’s tension was captured in a wonderful sound image as if to respond to it. What is the occasional shaking of the sound? A powerful sound image and incandescent performance that make up for it. Among the audience albums that capture the live performance of the new Stones, one piece called “First of all” is born!

スティーブ・ジョーダンの参加によって1960年代のナンバー、つまりブライアン期の楽曲が息を吹き返したことをミックやキースもはっきりと認識したのでしょう。LAのSoFiスタジアムの初日では、遂に「Let’s Spend The Night Together」から幕を開けるというオープニングが実現。案の定、何ともエキサイティングなスタートになっており、そのライブ映え感が半端ない。そこからの「19th Nervous Breakdown」という、今までになかったブライアン期オープニングというパターンが実に新鮮。何より「Let’s Spend～」がライブのオープニングを務めるのはストーンズのライブ史上において今回が初めて。
このオープニングだけでも聞きどころだと断言できるほどのインパクトを放っているのですが、今回のツアーでは欠かせないチャーリー追悼コメントから雪崩れ込んだのが本ツアー初登場の「Rocks Off」。これまたスティーブのドラミングによってオリジナルの攻撃的な演奏の勢いが見事に蘇っており、これもまた息を吹き返したレパートリーだと言えるでしょう。この曲が披露されたことで喜びを抑えきれなかったのでしょう、思わずテーパーが小声で歌っています（爆笑）。それでも演奏が圧倒的にアグレッシブなので聞いていてほとんど気になりません。
そんな勢いはなおも続き、これまた今回のツアーでは初登場となる「Get Off of My Cloud」。これもまたスティーブのドラミングとの相性は抜群で、ここでも彼のドラミングがブライアン期レパートリーを蘇らせる…という法則が。そんなLA初日のセットリストにおけるブライアン期祭りはまたしてもツアー初登場の「Ruby Tuesday」で締めくくり。ライブ前半でこれほどまとまってブライアン期の曲が披露されるということは今までなかっただけに、やはりミックやキースがスティーブのポテンシャルを把握し始めたことの証かと。

また先ほど聞かれた「Rocks Off」でのテーパーシンギングよりも本曲を皮切りに次の「Tumbling Dice」、そして「You Can’t Always Get What You Want」に「Honky Tonk Women」といった具合で周期的にテーパーがよそを向いて音が遠くなってしまう箇所があるという問題の方が惜しまれます。とはいえ、そこから戻ると改めて今回の録音の迫力ある音像を実感させてくれるのだから皮肉なもの。というのも今回リリースされる音源が間違いなく本ツアートップのクオリティを確信させてくれる見事な音質だから。
この日のオーディエンス録音に関しては二種類の音源が登場しており、最初に現れたのはTJというテーパーによるもので、今回の音源が続いて現れました。こちらはPITから敢行された録音ということでミックの歌声を始めとしたオンな音像が実に素晴らしい。それ故にテーパーがたまに動いて先のような不安定な個所が生じてしまった訳ですが、こうした問題を差し置いても圧倒的にオンで迫力満点な録音状態はマニアでなくとも楽しめるレベルでしょう。

何しろ高音質ですので、スティーブを配した新生ストーンズの演奏がどんどん良くなっている様子がはっきり伝わってくるのが嬉しい。ナッシュビルでの初披露が大成功に終わったキースの歌う「Connection」はこの日も素晴らしい演奏ぶり。この日は同曲に「Ruby Tuesday」そしてオープニングの「Let’s Spend The Night Together」と来て実質的に「BETWEEN THE BUTTONS」ナイトだと呼びたくなってしまいます。
この日で惜しい演奏が唯一あるとすれば、それは「Midnight Rambler」。これまでのスティーブはチャーリーほど絶妙な演奏の盛り上げが出来なくとも彼なりに煽ってくれていた訳ですが、この日に関してはピークを掴めないまま何となく演奏が終わってしまいました。もっともブライアン期のナンバーであれほどまでの冴えを見せていただけに、新入りスティーブがすべてを完ぺきにこなすのは無理な話というもの。
全体的にはスティーブのドラムがひっぱる形で非常にテンションの高い演奏が繰り広げられており、それに応えるかごとくミックが張り切る様子が見事な音像で捉えられているのがお見事。時折生じる音の揺れもなんのその。それを補ってあまりある迫力の音像と白熱の演奏。新生ストーンズのライブを捉えたオーディエンス・アルバムの中でも「まずはこれ」という一枚が誕生！
