The legendary Boston performance that was also adopted in Kano’s traditional work “PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!”. The new excavation FM master is here.
“July 16, 1978 Paradise Rock Club Performance” is included in this work. It is the stereo sound board recording. “PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!” Was an edited live album assembled from various times, but only the rare song “Don’t Bring Me Down” from the 1978 “YOU’RE GONNA GET IT Tour” adopted. This work is a long sound board album that you can enjoy the live for about an hour. So, what kind of position was the Boston performance? From this tour, we have already introduced the decision board “THE OLD GRAY WHISTLE TEST 1978: REBROADCAST 2021 (Uxbridge 1558)” and “WINTERLAND 1978 (Uxbridge 1525)”, so let’s take a look at the whole activity together.

This is Tom Petty in 1978. In contrast to the previous year’s invasion of England, the circuit was focused on the home country of the United States. The Boston performance of this work was the ninth performance of “North America # 2”, which is also the main leg.
As mentioned at the beginning, this show is known for being adopted as an official work, but at the same time it is also famous for being broadcast on FM on the Chicago radio station “WMET”. It is also one of the standard sound sources that have produced numerous existing groups. This work is also the same FM sound board, but the latest excavation master different from the past. It is a reel master announced by the prestigious “Krw_co”. The sound is super bright. The vintage sound that was in the conventional master has been wiped out, and it is super clear and sharp. Compared to the official PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!
A live performance aiming for a breakthrough is depicted with such a vivid and vivid sound. Speaking of the long live of this tour, “WINTERLAND 1978” is a symbol, but this work is quite different. In order to understand the difference, let’s organize the set while comparing here.

… and it looks like this. The style is the same as “WINTERLAND 1978”, with new songs from the 2nd album centered on the debut work, but the problem is the cover songs that are full of problems. The selection is quite different from “WINTERLAND 1978”, and one of the songs was “Don’t Bring Me Down”, which was also used in “PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!”. The cover group is generally rare, but “I’m A King Bee” is by far the most outstanding. It is a very rare song that has been confirmed only enough for one hand. Besides, it’s cool. Stones reproduced the loose feeling of Slim Harpo well, but Tom was crisp and aggressive. It has been dyed into a dynamic rock song.
Boston in 1978, where only one song could be heard in the official live work. It is a new masterpiece that you can enjoy the hot show with a sharp and vivid new excavation reel sound. A legendary night that changed the impression greatly from the past. Please take your time and enjoy.

かの伝統作『PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!』にも採用された伝説のボストン公演。その新発掘FMマスターが登場です。
そんな本作に収められているのは「1978年７月16日パラダイス・ロック・クラブ公演」。そのステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。『PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!』は様々な時期から組まれた編集ライヴアルバムだったわけですが、1978年の“YOU’RE GONNA GET IT Tour”からはレア曲「Don’t Bring Me Down」だけが採用。本作は、そのライヴを約１時間に渡って楽しめる長尺サウンドボード・アルバムなのです。では、そのボストン公演はどんなポジションだったのか。このツアーからは既に決定盤『THE OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST 1978: REBROADCAST 2021（Uxbridge 1558）』『WINTERLAND 1978（Uxbridge 1525）』もご紹介しておりますので、合わせて活動全景を俯瞰してみましょう。

これが1978年のトム・ペティ。前年の英国侵攻から打って変わって本国アメリカを重点的にサーキットしていました。本作のボストン公演は、そのメイン・レッグでもある「北米#2」の９公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
冒頭でも触れた通り、このショウは公式作に採用されたことで知られていますが、同時にシカゴのラジオ局“WMET”でFM放送された事でも有名。数々の既発群を生み出して来た定番音源のひとつでもあります。本作もまた同じFMサウンドボードでありつつ、これまでとは異なる最新発掘マスター。かの名門「Krw_co」が発表したリール・マスターなのです。そのサウンドは超・鮮やか。従来マスターにあったヴィンテージな鳴りが一掃され、超クリア＆シャープ。公式『PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!』テイクと比べるとややラフで厚みにも欠けるので軽々に「公式超え！」と喧伝するわけにもいきませんが、鮮やかだけなら思いっきり断言できるくらいです。
そんな鮮烈のビビッド・サウンドで画かれるのは、ブレイクスルーを目指して燃え上がる生演奏。このツアーの長尺ライヴと言えば『WINTERLAND 1978』が象徴となるわけですが、本作は趣が結構異なる。その違いをご理解頂くためにも、ここで比較しながらセットを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。デビュー作を軸としながら2ndアルバムの新曲を絡めるスタイルは『WINTERLAND 1978』と同じですが、問題はたっぷり盛り込まれたカバー曲。『WINTERLAND 1978』とはかなり違うセレクトとなっており、その中の１曲が『PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!』にも採用された「Don’t Bring Me Down」だったわけです。カバー群は総じてレアですが、中でも群を抜いているのが「I’m A King Bee」。片手で足りるほどしか確認されていない激レア曲です。しかも、格好いい。ストーンズはスリム・ハーポのゆるーい感じを上手く再現していましたが、トムはシャキッとアグレッシヴ。ダイナミックなロック・ソングに染め変えています。
公式ライヴ作では１曲しか聴けなかった1978年のボストン。その熱気溢れるショウをシャープでビビッドな新発掘リール・サウンドで味わえる新名盤です。これまでとは大きく印象の変わった伝説の夜。どうぞ、じっくりとお楽しみください。
