Tom Petty in 1978, who was on the tour with passion, just before the breakthrough in “DAMN THE TORPEDOES”. Introducing a set of sound boards and professional shots that allow you to experience such an early stage.
“December 30, 1978 San Francisco performance” is included in this work. This is a 3-disc set with the stereo sound board recording on DISC 1-2 and the multi-camera pro shot on DISC 3. Tom’s career ignited earlier in Britain, but in 1978 he drove the aftermath to counter-invade his native United States. First, let’s look back at the schedule and check the position of the show.

This is Tom Petty in 1978. We had a large-scale UK tour the previous year, but after the release of “YOU’RE GONNA GET IT!”, There are only 4 showcase-like performances. The rest was a year of circuiting in North America. And the final result was the three performances “North America # 4” at the end of the year. The New Year’s Eve New Year’s Eve concert was formalized in the deluxe edition of “THE LIVE ANTHOLOGY”, but this work was also the stage the day before.
It is also known that the pattern was left on the FM broadcast sound board, and a monochrome pro shot was also excavated, and it became a show representing the early days at once. In this work, both are set by the highest peak master. In particular, the main sound board version (DISC 1-2) is a remastered version released by overseas core enthusiasts very recently, and its quality is truly exquisite. The Pro Shot audio was completely monaural, but it’s a stereo master (albeit closer to the center), with a glossy finish and sound quality that surpasses the Pro Shot version. That’s the live album that I want you to set as “YOU’RE GONNA GET IT!”
Of course, the professional shot version (DISC 3) is also the highest peak. As mentioned above, it is monochrome, but the master freshness is enormous, and the visual beauty with no noise like noise is glossy. Even if the sound is not as dynamism as the stereo feeling of DISC 1-2, there is no problem in terms of sound quality. The real thrill of having a delicious guitar and youthful roar flowing into your brain while completely synchronizing with the multi-camera images is irreplaceable.
What is drawn with such quality is a full show that is not enough to concentrate and reduce the initial two works. As mentioned above, the next day’s New Year’s Eve concert has also been formalized, so let’s organize it while comparing it here.

これが1978年のトム・ペティ。前年には大規模な英国ツアーを行っていましたが、『YOU’RE GONNA GET IT!』発売後はショーケース的な４公演のみ。あとはひたすら北米をサーキットする１年でした。そして、その総仕上げとなったのが年末の３公演「北米#4」。大晦日の年越しコンサートは『THE LIVE ANTHOLOGY』のデラックス・エディションで公式化されていましたが、本作はその前日にあたるステージでもありました。
その模様はFM放送サウンドボードで残された事でも知られ、さらにはモノクロ・プロショットも発掘されて一気に初期を代表するショウとなりました。本作は、その両方を最高峰マスターでセットしているのです。特にメインとなるサウンドボード篇（DISC 1-2）はごく最近になって海外のコア・マニアが発表したリマスター・バージョンでして、そのクオリティはまさに絶品。プロショット音声は完全なモノラルでしたが、こちらは（センターに寄っているものの）ステレオ・マスターであり、艶やかな仕上げも音質自体もプロショット版を超えている。それこそ、『YOU’RE GONNA GET IT!』とセットしてデラエディ化して欲しいほどのライヴアルバムなのです。
もちろん、プロショット篇（DISC 3）も最高峰。前述のようにモノクロではあるのですが、マスター鮮度は絶大でノイズらしいノイズが見当たらない映像美は艶やかそのもの。音声にしてもDISC 1-2のステレオ感ほどダイナミズムは望めないまでも、音質的にはまったく問題なし。滋味深いギターや若々しい咆哮がマルチカメラの映像と完全シンクロしながら脳みそに流し込まれる醍醐味は、何物にも代えられません。
そんなクオリティで描かれるのは、初期２作を濃縮還元した……だけでは済まないフルショウ。前述の通り、翌日の年越しコンサートは公式化も果たしていますので、ここで比較しながら整理しておきましょう。
