There are two types of images contained in this work. The main video was shot on “October 6, 2021: Paris”. That multi-camera pro shot. Although this work must be a live video featuring the live performance of Sting, it is not a so-called ordinary “concert live”. A special live held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the radio station “FIP”. It is a performance for delivery of about 30 minutes performed without an audience. This is the 2021/2022 Sting. Europe is still suffering from the new corona sickness, but Sting is gradually resuming activities. We have held special spot performances and concert residency in Las Vegas. This work is part of such a special performance. It was a performance about a month before the release of “THE BRIDGE”.
Well, the main subject.
This work is special from the scene, what a “Pantheon CMN” on the hill of St. Genevieve. This is an architectural work built as an association in the 18th century, and is now a mausoleum where the historical greats of France sleep. The interior is decorated with numerous statues and neoclassical architecture, and is as majestic as a corner of the Louvre Museum. It’s not a place for rock musicians to play live. That passage? A huge golden pendulum sways in the middle of the pendulum, and seven people, including two choruses, form a circle around it to perform live.
Come on top of that, camera work ……, the video production is extremely artistic. Even though there is no camera at all, the profile of the super close-up, the panoramic view of the seven people from the picking hand, the high altitude angle that seems to be higher than the ceiling, etc …. All viewpoints are used. Moreover, they are extremely cleverly assembled. The creation is not the dimension of so-called “Pro Shot Live”, but completely that of “Latest PV” or “Theatrical Movie”. The sepia-like colors, the blurring with the pins, the movement of the camera linked to the pendulum, and the CG that is probably being used … are all made into a movie. The technology of 2021 will be able to realize the same level of video as the highest quality PV in one live performance … It is a video art that reminds us of the awesomeness of cutting-edge technology.

The main video is 8 songs, about 30 minutes. No matter how beautiful it is, it’s still not enough, so in this work, we also recorded 3 additional songs of the latest video. This is a multi-camera pro shot that was just delivered on “November 20, 2021”, although the recording date is unknown. It was when he appeared in the music program “Le Grand Studio RTL”, and it was a live performance with the audience in the studio inside the station. This must be a perfect “complete official class” in terms of video, sound, and camera work, but it is also a style that we are familiar with. The main Pantheon video is so artistic that it’s a professional shot that makes you feel relieved. Finally, let’s organize the set that can be seen in the two videos.

★ Multi-camera pro shot of “October 6, 2021: Paris”. 美しい。あまりにも美しい音楽作品が誕生しました。本作の主役は新作『THE BRIDGE』を発表したばかりのスティング。彼の最新プロショット・ライヴでありつつ、それ以上に音楽映像の最先端を切り拓く、あまりに美しい芸術作品です。
そんな本作に収められている映像は２種。メイン映像が撮影されたのは「2021年10月６日：パリ」。そのマルチカメラ・プロショットです。本作はスティングの生演奏を主役としたライヴ映像には違いないものの、いわゆる普通の「コンサート・ライヴ」ではありません。ラジオ局“FIP”の50周年を記念して行われた特別ライヴ。無観客で行われた約30分の配信用パフォーマンスです。本作最大の凄みは、あまりにもアーティスティックな内容にあるのですが、まずはポジション。スティングの近況を知る意味でも、現在までに公表されているスケジュールからチェックしてみましょう。

これが2021年／2022年のスティング。ヨーロッパは未だ新型コロナ禍に苛まれているわけですが、その中でもスティングは少しずつ活動を再開。スポット的な特別公演やラスヴェガスでのコンサート・レジデンシーを実施してきました。本作は、そんな特別公演の一環。『THE BRIDGE』発売の約１ヶ月前に行われたパフォーマンスでした。
さて、本題。
本作は現場からして特別でして、なんと聖ジュヌヴィエーヴの丘にある“パンテオンCMN”。ここは18世紀に協会として建設された建築作品で、現在はフランスの歴史的偉人達が眠る霊廟。内部は数々の彫像や新古典主義建築の装飾で彩られ、さながらルーブル美術館の一角かのように荘厳。ロック・ミュージシャンがライヴをやるような場所ではない。その通路？の真ん中に巨大な黄金の振り子が揺れ、その回りをコーラス２人を含む７人が円陣を組む配置で生演奏を繰り広げるのです。
その上に来てカメラワーク……と言いますか、映像プロデュースが極めてアーティスティック。カメラの姿が一切ない中で超接写の横顔やピッキングの手元から７人の全景、天井よりも高いんじゃないかと思えるほど高高度アングル等々……あらゆる視点が駆使される。しかも、それらが極めて巧妙に組まれている。その作り込みは、いわゆる「プロショット・ライヴ」の次元ではなく、完全に「最新PV」もしくは「劇場映画」のそれ。セピア風に格調高い色彩も、ピンとのボカしも、振り子と連動したカメラの動きも、そして恐らくは駆使されているであろうCGも……すべて映画的に作り込まれているのです。2021年の技術は、最高級PVと同次元の映像を一発のライヴで実現できてしまう……まさに最先端技術の凄みを思い知らされる映像芸術なのです。

そんなメイン映像は、８曲・約30分。いかに美しいとは言っても食い足りなさはありますので、本作ではさらに最新映像も３曲追加収録しました。こちらは収録日不明ながら「2021年11月20日」に配信されたばかりのマルチカメラ・プロショット。音楽番組“Le Grand Studio RTL”に出演した際のもので、局内スタジオに観客も入れたライヴです。こちらも映像・サウンド・カメラワークすべてが完璧な「完全オフィシャル級」には違いないものの、私たちとっては慣れ親しんだスタイルでもある。メインのパンテオン映像があまりにもアーティスティックなために、思わずホッとしてしまう放送らしいプロショットです。最後に、２つの映像で観られるセットも整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。注目は何と言っても『THE BRIDGE』の新曲群。「(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay」もデラックス・エディションに収録されていたオーティス・レディングのカバーです。
そうは言っても、やはり本作のポイントは「何を演奏しているか」ではなく「映像の美しさ」。『THE BRIDGE』の側らにコレクションしていただきたい１枚ではありますが、それ以上に2021年という時代は、ポピュラー・ミュージックの生演奏をここまで美しくできるという現実を知っていただきたい。そんな次元に立つ映像芸術。どうぞ、刮目してご体験ください。
