The legendary recording of “MOVING PICTURES TOUR”, which is a masterpiece of two majors, will be released at the same time. An original cassette by that prestigious “Kinny” is a new excavation!

This work is a direct CD from Kinney’s original cassette recorded at such a show. Of course, this cassette is the world’s first appearance, but the recording itself is already known. It is a name recording loved by old enthusiasts in the classic album “TOM SAWYER (UD-6565 / 6)”, and it is a (significantly) upgraded version.

【名門キニーのオリジナル・カセットが奇跡の新発掘】
そんな新発掘マスターに記録されていたのは「1981年６月14日ロングビーチ公演」。その極上オーディエンス録音です。今週は、あのマイク・ミラードによる超名盤『ANAHEIM 1981 MIKE MILLARD 1ST GEN（Cygnus 032/033）』も登場しますが、本作のロングビーチ公演はその２日後であり、“次のショウ”です。もちろん、まったく無関係なミラードとキニーから同時に、しかも連続した２公演のアップグレード・マスターが発掘されるとは……気持ち悪いぐらいの偶然です。
ともあれ、まずはショウのポジションから。マルチ・プラチナムに輝いた超傑作『MOVING PICTURES』が世界を席巻していた1981年を振り返ってみましょう。

1981年には、“MOVING PICTURES TOUR”と“EXIT… STAGE LEFT”の２ツアーがありましたが、上記がその全体像。秋には欧州ツアーも実施されたものの、その他はすべて北米で94公演も行われました。そのうち本作のロングビーチ公演は「北米#2」の25公演目にあたるコンサートでした（つまり、同時リリースの『ANAHEIM 1981 MIKE MILLARD 1ST GEN』は24公演目です）。
本作は、そんなショウで記録されたキニーのオリジナル・カセットからダイレクトにCD化されたもの。もちろん、このカセットは世界初登場なのですが、実は録音自体はすでに知られている。アナログ時代の名盤『TOM SAWYER（UD-6565/6）』でオールド・マニアに愛された名録音、その（大幅）アップグレード版なのです。

そのアップグレードは質・量の両面に及ぶ。大元のカセットだけに音が良いのは期待していましたが、録音時間も長い。それも、よくある「歓声が○秒」とかいうレベルではない。実は『TOM SAWYER（と、そのコピーCD）』は３曲目の「Limelight」から始まっているのですが、本作は開演前から録音され、既発群ではカットされてきたポールポジションの「2112 (Overture / The Temples Of Syrinx)」や「Freewill」も聴けるのです！ しかも、これが凄い。これまでは「録音をミスったからカットされた？」と予想されてきたわけですが、まったくの無問題。音切れもなければ、ノイズもなく、パイロの爆発音でもビビることもない。確かに開演の熱狂が少し入りはするものの、なぜこんな美味しいパートを削って発表したのか……まったくナゾです（単にLPに入りきらなかった？）。
晴れてフルショウ収録となったわけですが、格上げされたのは尺だけではありません。サウンドもググッとアップグレード。『TOM SAWYER』からして“MOVING PICTURES TOUR”を語り継ぐ名作だったわけですが、その大元だけに鮮度が段違い。オーディエンス録音のクリアさを追究する名門“キニー”の個性は本作にも息づき、ダビング痕を感じない鳴りは瑞々しく、ドラム打音のピークからシンセの超弱音にいたるまで美しい。既発群では弱々しく感じた低音のパンチも効いていて、それらによって生まれるステレオ感のワイド感、現場のリアルな体験感も絶品なのです。
これまで“MOVING PICTURES TOUR”の大定番と言えば、シカゴ公演（『DEFINITIVE CHICAGO 1981（Cygnus 014/015）』でお楽しみ頂けます）やアナハイム公演（今週同時リリースの『ANAHEIM 1981 MIKE MILLARD 1ST GEN』）だったわけですが、本作もそれらに匹敵する。パワフルな芯のダイレクト感では前記２作には及ばないまでも、端正な鳴りの美しさに関しては上回っているくらい。まさに「MOVING PICTURES TOURの３大名盤」なのです。
とにかく衝撃。世界のミラード録音である『ANAHEIM 1981 MIKE MILLARD 1ST GEN』も凄いのですが、まさか日本のキニーから負けず劣らずのオリジナル・カセットが同時に発掘されようとは。「どちらか１本」と問われれば、録音史の重さから『ANAHEIM 1981 MIKE MILLARD 1ST GEN』をお薦めせざるを得ませんが、アップグレード幅の衝撃や貴重度では本作の方が遙かに上です。何しろ、この録音のフルショウ完全形は世界中のどこを探しても、本作でしか聴けないのですから。
