Rory Gallagher in 1975, who had a series of major masterpieces such as “TATTOO” and “IRISH TOUR’74”, and was completely overwhelmed with fat. Introducing the finest live album where you can enjoy the flame guitar with 100% sound.
It is “March 20, 1975 Frankfurt performance” that is imbued with such a work. That transcendental audience recording … maybe. As a matter of fact, this recording was released very recently by the prestigious “Krw_co”, and the background is clear as “1st Gene Reel Master”. That’s why it’s definitely an audience recording, but it’s a mistake … I completely deny that the essential sound is spatial recording. The ferocious direct core is on to the limit, and even if you listen carefully with headphones, you can not hear the hall sound component. The fine details, the edgy contours, and the vivid separate feeling can only be heard on the sound board, and if you say it strongly, the density of the deep bass sounds like an audience. Anyway, the mysterious belief that “If it’s not a sound board, you’ll definitely listen!” But unless you have one, the type of recording doesn’t make sense.
Rory Gallagher, who was in the middle of the heyday, is drawn with such a different dimension of directness. Speaking of 1975, it is remembered as the year when “AGAINST THE GRAIN” came out, but the meaning may differ depending on the time, so let’s unravel the schedule at that time to confirm that.

This is the 1974/1975 Rory. It’s compressed quite forcibly, but you can understand the general flow. You can see that he was touring constantly while going back and forth between North America and Europe, but the Frankfurt performance of this work is the latter half of it. It was the 10th performance of “Europe # 4” immediately after his second performance in Japan. In other words, this work is about half a year before “AGAINST THE GRAIN” is released. There are no new songs in the set yet, and it is based on “TATTOO” and “IRISH TOUR’74”. In particular, John Lee’s “Want Ad Blues” and Maddy’s “Young Fashioned Ways” are extremely rare songs that have been played only to the extent that they can be counted throughout their careers. You can enjoy it with the super direct sound of barefoot sound board.
Anyway, the sound is extremely intense. It’s like IEMs (although it’s definitely not possible in the era), and (although the eardrum will break if you do the actual inspection), it’s a heyday Rory with an unusual close-fitting sound as if you were listening directly to the on-site PA. It is a live album where you can fully enjoy Gallagher. A two-disc set that is far more intense and fresher than the sound boards of all over the world. It is the birth of a new masterpiece that I would like you to face with your collar straight.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1975年３月20日フランクフルト公演」。その超絶級オーディエンス録音……です、たぶん。実のところ、この録音は名門「Krw_co」がごく最近に公表したもので「1stジェネのリール・マスター」と経緯もハッキリしている。ですから間違いなくオーディエンス録音、そのハズなのですが……肝心要の音が空間録音という事を思いっきり否定してくる。猛烈ダイレクトな芯は極限までオンですし、ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませてもホール鳴り成分が聴き取れない。ディテールの細やかさも、エッジの立った輪郭も、鮮やかなセパレート感も、サウンドボードにしか聞こえず、強いて言うなら重低音の密度がややオーディエンス……っぽい……ような気がする。ともあれ「サウンドボードじゃなきゃ絶対に聴くもんか！」というナゾの信念？でもお持ちでない限り、録音の種別など意味を成さない凄まじさなのです。
そんな異次元のダイレクト感で描かれるのは、一大全盛真っ直中にいたロリー・ギャラガー。1975年と言えば『AGAINST THE GRAIN』が出た年として記憶されますが、時期によって意味が違ってもいる、その辺を確認するためにも、ここで当時のスケジュールを紐解いてみましょう。

これが1974年／1975年のロリー。かなり強引に圧縮していますが、大まかな流れはご理解頂けると思います。北米と欧州を行ったり来たりしながら絶え間なくツアーしていたのが見て取れると思いますが、本作のフランクフルト公演はその中でも後半。二度目の来日公演の直後となる「欧州#4」の10公演目にあたるコンサートでした。つまり、本作は『AGAINST THE GRAIN』がリリースされる約半年前。セットも新曲はまだなく、『TATTOO』『IRISH TOUR’74』を基準にしています。『IRISH TOUR’74』と言えば、40周年ボックスで完全版も登場していますので、比較しながら整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。基本的には『IRISH TOUR’74』を踏襲しているわけですが、そこに美味しいカバーを山盛り注ぎ込んだスタイル。特にジョン・リーの「Want Ad Blues」やマディの「Young Fashioned Ways」はキャリアを通しても指折り数えられる程度しか演奏していない激レア曲。それをサウンドボード裸足の超ダイレクト・サウンドで楽しめるのです。
とにもかくにも、強烈極まるサウンド。（時代柄絶対あり得ませんが）まるでIEMsのようであり、（実査にやったら鼓膜が破けますが）現場ＰＡに直接耳を当てているかのような異常なド密着サウンドで全盛ロリー・ギャラガーを味わい尽くせるライヴアルバムです。そんじょそこらのサウンドボードよりも遙かに強烈で、生々しさも絶大な２枚組。襟を正して正対していただきたい新名盤の誕生です。
