とはいっても単なる再発では芸がない。そこで今回もGraf Zeppelinの監修によっていたるところに散在していたノイズや音量ムラなどを緻密にアジャスト。ただでさえ聞きやすかったサウンドボード・アルバムの完成度をさらに高めた形でのバージョンアップ・リリースと相成りました。
何と言ってもオーバーダビング＆編集大会だった「GET YER YA-YA’S OUT!」（以下「GYYYO」と称します）と違い、純正のライブ演奏を高音質のサウンドボードで楽しめたというのが人気の秘密。そのメインソースは映画「GIMME SHELTER」の音声。同映像でメイン・フィーチャーされているマディソン・スクエア・ガーデンは今でこそ「MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1969 DAY 1」や「同 DAY2」などで全長版が聞かれるようになりましたが、それらと重複するパートには、よりしっかりとしたステレオ・ミキシングが施されており、これぞ「別ミックス」として楽しめるもの。よって価値が未だに落ちていないことになる訳です。
「DAY 1」や「DAY 2」は一部のパートを除けば音声が基本モノラルでして、「GYYYO」のようなマルチトラックではなく、もしかしたら「GIMMEBSHELTER」映画撮影班がモノラルで収録した音声が元になっている可能性も考えられる。その点こちらのMSG音源は28日ファースト・ショーの「Little Queenie」とセカンド・ショーの｢Carol｣以外はステレオで収録。それらがオーバーダビングなしの状態でもあり、未だに価値が下がらない理由でもあり続けている。それに何と言っても初心者でも安心して楽しめるということ。
よって大半のトラックがオフィシャル・レベルの音質であることから、今回も大々的なオーバーホールを必要とする個所は極めて少なかったのです。むしろ微調整にとどまったと言っていいかもしれません。既にマニアの間では揺るぎない地位を築いた1969年ツアーにおける名演中の名演たるMSG。そこで聞かれた数々の素晴らしい演奏が最高の音質かつ見事な編集によってまとめられている。
オーバーダビングされたのをいいことに、やけに力んだミックの歌いっぷり、実際のステージでは「Honky Tonk Women」でしか歌っていなかったキースのバックコーラスが「GYYYO」ではオープニングの「Jumping Jack Flash」やら「Street Fighting Man」で大活躍するといった具合が何とも滑稽であり、本タイトルにまとめられた純生のライブテイクを聞いてしまうとなおさら「GYYYO」の不自然さが気になってしまうというもの。
そして高評価へと結びついたもう一つの大きな魅力は充実したボーナストラックの数々。中でもVHS版「GIMME SHELTER」のボーナス映像として収録されていた「Carol」など、元がオフィシャルリリースでも今となっては貴重な音源などを丁寧にまとめ上げ、なおかつすべてサウンドボード録音だったという点がまた人気の秘訣。最後に収録されているデトロイトの音声は同地のテレビ局が当時出回り始めた白黒のハンディ・ビデオ・カメラを使って撮影されたもので、後にニュースで放送されたと言われているものですが、それだけに他の音源よりも粗の気になるモノラル音質を今回は微調整。とはいえMSGの三日前のステージということでこちらも演奏は素晴らしく、中でも「Satisfaction」ではテイラーが凄いフレーズを弾いている。
オフィシャル「GYYYO」では修正されてしまった69年ツアーならではのダークでワイルドな演奏ぶりをどれと同等のステレオ・サウンドボード・クオリティでまとめ上げた傑作が今回はタイトルも変えて再登場。前回シンプル過ぎて不評（笑）だったタイトルは69年ツアーらしさを増した「STONED 1969」へと。「GYYYO」以外で69年アメリカ・ツアーをサウンドボードで聞きたくなったなら、まずはコレ！
