Speaking of the 1984 “Hitchhiking Pros and Cons” tour that Roger Waters performed for the first time as a solo, it was not only the full participation of the album, but also with Eric Clapton who joined the tour, and the former King Crimson was Mel It became a big topic at the time because Collins participated. This board certainly uses the masterpiece published by Wolfgang’s Vault at the time as described above, but “ THE GUNNER’S DREAM ” released by Sigma at that time was not a drop of the Wolfgang’s Vault version. . This Wolfgang’s Vault version of the SBD original sound was basically recorded with a sound that was slightly closer to the midrange, although it had excellent sound quality, and some adjustment was necessary. Therefore, at that time, the engineers of this Sigma label gave their own professional-grade mastering to successfully improve the extrusion of vocals and the separation of each instrument, resulting in a tom and snare sound that lacked clarity. A well-balanced, miracle sound image was realized by reviving sharp sharpness. 2013年にリリースされるやいなや瞬時に完売したあの幻の名盤『ROGER WATERS with ERIC CLAPTON – THE GUNNER’S DREAM』が今週末、遂に新装版として限定復活します。あまりの反響からその2年後の2015年、再プレス盤がリリースされたものの、こちらもあっという間に完売。以来、数年間に渡って、この名盤・名音源でありながら、容易に入手できないという、信じられないような状況が続いていましたが、ご安心下さい。遂に、待望の3rdプレス盤が入荷致します。ここ10年最高のロジャーのソロタイトルが、2010年代も終わりに近づいた今、新しいアートワークで装いも一新、再び、Sigmaレーベルより再登場致します！！

ロジャー・ウォーターズがソロとして初めて実施した1984年” ヒッチハイクの賛否両論 “のツアーと言えば、アルバムの全面参加だけでなくツアーにも帯同したエリック・クラプトンとの共演や、元キング・クリムゾンがメル・コリンズが参加した事で当時大きな話題となりました。同ツアーからは幾つものオーディエンス録音(※以降、AUD)が登場してファンとマニアを愉しませてくれた訳ですが、その中で7月26日の米国シカゴ公演が2013年のある日、それまで存在すら知られていなかったステレオ・サウンドボード(※以降、SBD)音源として突如ネット上に登場し、世界中の熱心なファンを騒然とさせた事がありました。これはかのWolfgang’s Vaultによって公開されたもので、間違いなく何らかの関係者・スタッフから流出したであろうリアルステレオのSBD音源となっており、AUD録音ばかりで占められていた他のヒッチハイク音源とは一線を画す圧倒的なクオリティを誇るものでした。当Sigmaも当時これを急遽プレスCD化し、同年5月に限定ナンバリングステッカー付きで世界初リリースを実現させたのですが(※Sigma 93 / 『ROGER WATERS with ERIC CLAPTON – THE GUNNER’S DREAM』)、これは瞬時完売してしまい、以来、2015年の再プレス盤をはさみ、以降現在までその状態が続いておりました。

本盤は確かに前述した通り当時Wolfgang’s Vaultによって公開されたものをマスター使用しているのですが、Sigmaが当時リリースした『THE GUNNER’S DREAM』はそのWolfgang’s Vault版をそのまま落としたものではなかったからです。このWolfgang’s Vault版のSBD原音は基本的には秀逸な音質ながらも全体がやや中音域に寄った音で収録されており、若干の調整が必要でした。そこで当時、当Sigmaレーベルのエンジニアが独自のプロ級マスタリングを施してボーカルの前面への押し出しや各楽器の分離を格段に向上させる事に成功し、明瞭感に欠けていたタムとスネアの音に鋭いメリハリを蘇らせた事であのバランスの良い、ミラクルな音像が実現していたのです。言い換えればあの名盤『THE GUNNER’S DREAM』は、当時ネット公開されたWolfgang’s Vault音源よりも更に音が磨かれた、Sigmaレーベル独自のプロ級マスタリングという大きなアドヴァンテージが付いたブラッシュアップ最高音質盤だった訳で、収録内容は同一ながらも音質のクオリティはSigma版の方が遥かに高い” 仕上がり “を誇っていたのです。とはいえ、出し直すならリマスター版としての再リリースとしたかったので実際にリマスタリングを何度か試みたのですが、どうやっても不要なイコライズ感が出てしまい、改良の余地が全く見付けられなかったのです。如何にあのオリジナル盤『THE GUNNER’S DREAM』の出来が良かったか、あの段階であまりに完璧な音像で” 仕上げて “しまったかを逆に思い知らされる始末でした。そして、今回もまた、オリジナル盤と同タイトル・収録内容も同一ながら、新たにデザインされた新ジャケでSigma番号131を与えての再発盤と致しました。しかしそれだけに音質には絶対の自信がありますし、比類なきハイクオリティを保証致します!!

ディスク2はヒッチハイク全曲再現を含むショウ後半です。こちらも「4:30 AM」からステレオ感満点のSBDサウンドとなっており、ロジャーの肉声の近さやSEの鮮烈な音色が序盤から色彩豊かに現れます。本格的なアンサンブルが展開してゆく「4:33 AM」からも各楽器の出音の良さが際立ち、特徴的なクラプトンのギターもその動きをパーフェクトに追ってゆけるのが嬉しいところでしょう。バックスクリーンで映し出されているオートバイの走り去る音や警報音が鮮明に出ている事も特筆されます。「4:39 AM」の中盤で入るサックスは艶のある女性コーラスと絡みながら魅惑のサウンドを構築しており、これが「4:41 AM」でギターとピアノとロジャーの歌唱に引き継がれてゆく様子も各音色が鮮明に出ている事で音像に立体感があり、表現の幅広さをより確かな手応えで感じる事が出来るでしょう。またこの曲では途中から出てくる熱っぽいギターの旋律が鮮明な音で花開いており、クラプトンによって曲が劇的に色付けされてゆくマジカルな興奮もお楽しみ戴けると思います。「4:50 AM」は曲想がドラマチックに展開する中盤でロジャーの熱唱が際立ち、ギターからサックスへ繋がれてゆく旋律の歌い上げ(※3分43秒付近～4分46秒付近)も信じ難いほどに高い音楽的興奮が記録されています。同様に「4:56 AM」ではロジャーの歌唱、女性コーラス、そしてサックスという3つの音が天上の響きで綴れ合う様子が至高の透明サウンドで通り過ぎるのですが、ここでの静謐な音像も豊かな行間の魅力を広々と感じさせるかの様で大変魅力的です。「5:01 AM」では中盤に入るギターソロが素晴らしい出音の近さでクラプトンとレンウィックの動きを伝え、終盤に向かう流れの中で次々と音が花開き、それぞれの楽器が次第に集って大きなアンサンブルになってゆく様子が驚きのステレオ・サウンドで出てきます。最終節となる「5:06 AM」と「5:11 AM」でもフックの効いた熱い旋律を粛々と歌い上げるクラプトンのギターがロジャーの歌唱に終始華を添え、質の高い聴き応えを
場に残しながら音楽が夢から醒めてゆく様子に打ち震えるでしょう。アンコールの「Brain Damage」と「Eclipse」は原曲に近い音作りで、SEも完璧に捉えた魅惑のサウンドです。変化に富んだロジャー歌唱版としての表現や、要所要所でクラプトンがギルモアのそれとは違う響きとアプローチで曲に新たな息吹きと彩りを与えている様子が特上の音質でお愉しみ戴けます。ステレオSBDという基本ポテンシャルの高さゆえ各楽器の音のブレンド感も音が消え入る最後の一音まで最高値で出ていますから、聴き終えた後の熱い余韻と感動も格別です。それはまさに、当時残されなかった公式ライブ盤を聴き終えた確かな手応えと充実感そのものと言えるでしょう。

クラプトンが同行していたこの時期のツアーで興味深いのは、やはり彼が自分の曲を一曲も弾かず一人のリードギタリストとしてこの公演に持てる技術と才能を捧げている点でしょう。そして勿論、ショウ前半でフロイドの曲を彼が弾いている事も非常に大きなトピックスです。スケールの大きいギルモアのフレーズを大切にしながら曲の持つ多面的な音楽性を見事に惹き出し、かつ自分のものにしているそのギターはどのシーンを切り出してみても非常に興味深く、聴きごたえのあるものばかりです。しかし一方で、そういう曲構成に作り直したアレンジャーとしてのロジャーの才覚も見逃せません。原曲を一新するそれぞれの音節構造をじっと聴いていると、ロジャーが曲を作った当時の着想を注意深く練り直している痕跡が随所で伺えますし、そこには確かにクラプトンに軸を置きながらも、しかし決してクラプトンだけではないトータルな視点でアレンジを試みていた事もきっとお感じに筈です…などと、ついこんな堅い事を書いてしまいたくなるのも本作があまりに秀逸な仕上がりを誇るステレオSBDだからなのですが、しかし本当に優れた高音質盤だけに肩を楽にして聴いていても自然と様々な発見に気付かされるのは本作の大きな特徴でしょう。2013年のオリジナル盤のリリース時、同一内容のタイトルが他レーベルからも数種出ましたが、beatleg誌(2015年7月号)の172p「エリック・クラプトン/ライブ・ファイル２ 連載その17」で紹介されている通り『THE GUNNER’S DREAM』が代表タイトルとして推されており、その収録内容の質の高さは専門誌からも折り紙付きです。この週末は是非そのハイグレードな音像を誇る本タイトルで、クラプトンが同行したヒッチハイク・ツアー公演をお愉しみ下さい。
