PINK FLOYD, who has climbed to the top of the scene both in reality and in reality, has produced two major albums “WISH YOU WERE HERE” & “ANIMALS”. What happened at the scene where the two historical works were created? A studio album that can be seen at the scene will be reprinted and released with renewed artwork.
Engraved on this work are the demo recordings of the two major albums “WISH YOU WERE HERE” and “ANIMALS”. It is also a product that was directly raised from the Omoto master cassette that directly sucked the air of the studio. It is a master brought by our own route in 2016, but it is actually the original cassette that was used at the studio work site. This work is a two-disc studio album that has been transferred to a CD without leaving a single sound.

– Omoto cassette where studio work was vividly recorded
The demos/outtakes of “WISH YOU WERE HERE” and “ANIMALS” have been widely distributed for some time, but they are completely different from this work. The previous albums were well organized with the finished product album in mind, but this album is a vivid recording of the work in the studio, and there are some songs that do not form the body of songs and repeated recordings. . It is exactly the “sound of the studio recording” that the people themselves have not prepared to listen to again.
Then, if you ask me if the phrases I came up with are lined up like memos, that’s not the case. Although unfinished, the mix is done, and each song can be understood firmly. As a matter of fact, a take that closely resembles the existing demo will also appear, but that is also the point. Despite the similarity of work stages / sounds / performances, there are plenty of sounds and gaps that are not in the existing demos. Although it is only a guess, this work is probably the original cassette that was being rotated in the studio. And, from this cassette, someone extracted only the part close to the finished product album, and it went around and came out as a demo ………… It is one that is deprived of such a mystery.

●Real sound that evokes a sense of reality in the studio
Furthermore, not only the content, but the sound itself that runs through the entire story appeals, “This is the source and starting point.” Until then, the demos had editing marks and equalizing marks, but this work does not have them. Even the hiss noise that enters extremely faintly creates a sense of the times 40 years ago, and above all, the series of flows is too unedited. Unlike the existing demos that resembled the official album, the song order was exactly as it was enclosed in the actual cassette, and there were plenty of gaps and the same parts were repeated. The trial and error in the studio is reproduced exactly.
To give one example, DISC 2’s “Dogs”. When the performance ends in the middle part, it becomes silent with fragments of synth sounds and click sounds. In this “fragment” and “pause”, speculations and hesitation such as “should I put something here?” It would have been great if there was a conversation between the members, but even if it wasn’t, each phrase, each sound, or rather even silence conveys the feeling of breathing in the studio.

The breath of the studio that created the masterpiece through repeated trial and error. It is an amazing Omoto master who confined it with real sound. What happened in the studio where the masterpieces “WISH YOU WERE HERE” & “ANIMALS” were born, and what did the members think? “Sounds, breaths, and smells” that should have been known only to the people involved in the production erupt from the speakers.
A 2-disc set that hits the heart of a maniac revived from a cassette that Roger and Gilmore would have touched. It is an ancient document album that you would like to experience not only for those who devote their lives to Floyd research, but also for those who want to take a peek at the studio that created the legend. It is clearly an unedited demo, and it contains plenty of sounds and intervals that have not been released, and the unprocessed Omoto sound is brilliant even on the same track. そんな本作に刻まれているのは、２大名盤『WISH YOU WERE HERE』『ANIMALS』のデモ録音。それも、スタジオの空気を直接吸い込んだ大元マスター・カセットからダイレクトに起こされた銘品です。2016年に当店の独自ルートでもたらされたマスターなのですが、実はスタジオ作業の現場で使われていたという大元カセットの現物。本作は、それをそっくり１音残らず、CDに移し替えた２枚組のスタジオ・アルバムなのです。

●スタジオ作業が生々しく記録されていた大元カセット
『WISH YOU WERE HERE』『ANIMALS』のデモ／アウトテイクは以前から広く流通していたのですが、本作とはまったくの別物。以前のものは完成品アルバムを意識してキッチリと構成されていましたが、本作はスタジオでの作業が生々しく記録されており、曲の体を成していないものや繰り返しの録音もある。当人達が聴き直すために整えてもいない、まさに「スタジオ録りっぱなしの音」なのです。
では、思いつきフレーズがメモのように並んでいるのかというと、そういうわけでもありません。未完成ながらも、ミックスはされており、各曲はしっかりと分かる。実のところ、既発デモに酷似したテイクも登場するのですが、それもポイント。作業段階／サウンド／演奏が似ているにもかかわらず、そこには既発デモにはない音や間までもたっぷりと記録されているのです。あくまで推測の域を出ませんが、恐らくは本作こそがスタジオで回されていた大元カセットの現物。そして、このカセットから何者かが完成品アルバムに近い部分だけを抜き出し、それが巡り巡ってデモとして世に出たのではないか………そんな謎解きにまで心奪われる１本なのです。

●スタジオ内の現実感まで吹き出してくる本生サウンド
さらに内容だけでなく、全編を貫くサウンド自体が「これこそが源泉・出発点」と訴えかけてくる。それまでのデモは編集痕やイコライジング痕が見受けられましたが、本作にはまるでない。極々うっすらと入るヒスノイズまで40年前の時代感を醸していますし、何よりも一連の流れがあまりにも無編集。公式アルバムに似せていた既発デモとは違い、曲順も現物カセットに封入されていたそのまんまで、思いっきり間が空いたり、同じパートが繰り返されたりもする。スタジオ内の試行錯誤がそっくり再現されるのです。
１つ例を挙げるなら、DISC 2の「Dogs」。中間部に差し掛かったところで演奏が終わると、シンセ音の断片やクリック音が挟まりつつ、無音になる。この「断片」や「間」に「ここで何か入れようか」といった思惑や迷いまでもが匂い立つ。メンバーの会話まであれば最上だったのですが、そうでなくても、フレーズ１つひとつ、音の１つひとつ、むしろ無音でさえもがスタジオでの呼吸感を伝えてくれるのです。

試行錯誤を重ねながら名盤を創り上げていったスタジオの呼吸感。それをリアル・サウンドで封じ込めた驚異の大元マスターです。名作『WISH YOU WERE HERE』＆『ANIMALS』が生まれていったスタジオで何が起き、メンバーは何を思っていたのか。制作に携わった人間しか知らなかったはずの「音・息づかい・匂い」がスピーカーから噴き出してくるのです。
