The bottom line performance from Voodoo Down Records continues from the previous work! Although the previous work was 1975, this is 1974. In other words, the previous work was “Agartha” and “Pangea”, but this is “Dark Magus”. The most obvious difference is the guitar organization. In 1974, a guitarist named Dominic Gamo (with notation such as Gaumont and Garmont) joined the band, and it is a triple guitar. In 1975, the triple guitar may have been a bit of an experimental element to return to the twin guitar formation of Pete Cozy and Reggie Lucas, but in the first place, the Miles Band experimented while many masters were replaced. A giant who has accumulated a lot of things, each year and month has its own color, and speaking of 1974, Dominique Gamo was enrolled first. By the way, what is recorded in “Dark Magus” is the concert at Carnegie Hall on March 30, and since it has been more than half a year since then, there are signs of “Aga Pan” the following year.
Although it is an audience sound source, it is powerful and has a fairly good sound quality. The timbre, which was apt to be somewhat confined, has been brushed up by remastering. Unfortunately, there are parts where noise enters the other channel, and there are parts where monaural processing is done to avoid it. But before this performance they are only minor problems. I also compared it with “Dark Magus”, but the power of “FUNK [PRELUDE Part 1]”, which can be heard at a high volume, although the resolution of the sound is far behind, surpasses “Dark Magus”. “HIP SKIP” and “WHAT THEY DO” that were not played at the time of “Dark Magus” are also included in the set, and after “Dark Magus”, this concert reigns just before “Agartha” and “Pangea”. “At Bottom Line 74”.

The legendary label “So What”, which has received tremendous trust from Miles Davis enthusiasts and has produced numerous masterpieces. Under the full supervision of the “So What” label, “Voodoo Down Records (hereinafter VDD)” was launched at the end of 2020. You can see the depth of trust from the fact that they were allowed to list the label name of “SO WHAT!” for the first time. Careful mastering, editing, discerning artwork with band, press board of beautiful picture disc. Although it is a new label, it is already attracting attention as a must-have item for Miles collectors.

ヴードゥーダウン・レコーズより前作に引き続きボトムライン公演が登場！と言いつつも、前作が1975年だったのに対しこちらは1974年。つまり、前作が『アガルタ』『パンゲア』だったのに対しこちらは『ダーク・メイガス』というわけです。一番わかりやすく何が違うかと言うとギター編成が違います。1974年バンドにはなんとドミニク・ガモー（ゴーモンやガーモント等表記有り）というギタリストが加入しておりトリプル・ギターなのです。1975年になると再びピート・コージーとレジー・ルーカスのツイン・ギター編成に戻るためトリプル・ギターはやや実験的要素だったのかもしれませんが、そもそもマイルス・バンドは数々の名手達が入れ替わりながら実験を積みあげてきた巨人、各年各月毎にそれぞれの色があり1974年と言えばまずドミニク・ガモー在籍という事なのです。ちなみに『ダーク・メイガス』に収録されているのは3月30日のカーネギー・ホールでのコンサートで、そこから半年以上たっているため翌年の“アガ・パン”の気配も漂ってきています。
オーディエンス音源ですが、迫力がありかなり良好音質の部類です。やや籠りがちだった音色はリマスタリングによりブラッシュ・アップ。残念ながら部分的に方チャンネルにノイズが入る個所があったり、それを回避すべくモノラル処理されてている個所もあります。しかし、この演奏の前にそれらは小さな問題点に過ぎません。『ダーク・メイガス』と聴き比べもしましたが、もちろん音の解像度こそ遠く及ばないものの大音量で聴く『FUNK [PRELUDE Part 1]』など迫力は『ダーク・メイガス』を凌駕するもの。『ダーク・メイガス』時には演奏されていない『HIP SKIP』や『WHAT THEY DO』もセットに加わっており、『ダーク・メイガス』のその後として、『アガルタ』『パンゲア』の直前として君臨するコンサートがこの『アット・ボトムライン・74』です。
