“LONDON MARCH 2001″, which was a reprint gift release of the nostalgic MASTERPORT edition last week, received a far better reception than expected, so this time we will reprint Mick Taylor’s stage from 2001, which is even more nostalgic and has the highest sound quality audience. And re-release.
Six months after “LONDON MARCH 2001”, “NO EXPECTATIONS” is an exquisite audience album that captures Taylor standing on the stage of a London club again. At that time, it was released by MASTERPORT and received more rave reviews among mania sites than in London in March.
First of all, the sound quality is amazing. The intimate sense of presence unique to a club, and above all, the powerful sound image easily surpasses the highly popular gift “LONDON MARCH 2001”. In particular, Taylor’s guitar etc. seem to be at the sound board level.

What’s even more appealing is the content of the live performance. Taylor was active in live performances throughout 2001, changing the set list and live content as the tour progressed, but in March, the composition was centered around his specialty fusion blues. On the other hand, here the setlist evolved into a more blues-heavy set that could be called its original form.
A typical example is “Blues In The Morning,” where Taylor plays a lot. To begin with, it felt like he was completely shaken up from the moment the show started, and even from the opening song “Twisted Sister” he was sharp.
Unlike in March, the fact that Taylor was the only guitarist seemed to be a big factor, and because he had done so many shows, he felt confident enough to play the guitar part by himself. This can be seen from what he showed off.
Here, the usual solo performances by band members will be performed, but the highlight is the solo by Godfrey MacLean, the black drummer who served as the drummer for the autumn UK tour.

In the second half of the live show, Taylor showed his true potential with a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House.” Again, the formation with Taylor as the only guitarist seems to have been a very accurate selection of songs, but in reality, Taylor copied the phrases played by Jimi Hendrix and then played his own solo. It also makes you feel the respect he has for Jimi.
And what makes you feel his confidence as a performer is the two consecutive Stones classics at the end of the live performance. “You Gotta Move” is originally a blues tune, so it’s easy to play the slide, but the highlight is “No Expectations” in the finale.
An unexpected arrangement that combines the slow atmosphere of the original with a jazzy swing. MacLean’s drumming is wonderful here as well, and with his encouragement, Taylor also plays the slide to his heart’s content. This arrangement still has enough impact, and enthusiasts who don’t know the MASTERPORT edition at the time will be surprised and enjoy it. A nostalgic masterpiece packed with outstanding sound quality and incandescent performance is back for the first time in a while!

先週懐かしのMASTERPORT盤の復刻ギフト・リリースであった『LONDON MARCH 2001』は予想をはるかに上回る好評を博したことを受け、今回はさらに懐かし＆最高音質オーディエンスの2001年ミック・テイラーのステージを復刻かつ再リリース。
『LONDON MARCH 2001』から半年後、再びロンドンのクラブのステージに立ったテイラーの姿を捉えた極上オーディエンス・アルバムが『NO EXPECTATIONS』。当時MASTERPORTからリリースされてマニア・サイトの間では3月のロンドン以上に激賞されたアイテムでした。
まず何と言っても音質が素晴らしい。クラブならではの親密な臨場感、何よりオンな音像は大好評ギフト『LONDON MARCH 2001』をも軽く凌駕。特にテイラーのギターなどはサウンドボードレベルだと錯覚しそうなほど。

それ以上に魅力的なのがライブの内容。2001年を通して精力的なライブ活動を行ったテイラーはツアーが進むごとにセットリストやライブの内容を変化させていったのですが、3月の時はお得意のフュージョン・ブルースを中心とした構成だったのに対し、ここでは本来の姿とも言うべきブルース色を強めたセットリストへと進化。
その典型が「Blues In The Morning」であり、ここでのテイラーは弾きまくり。そもそもこの日の彼はライブ開始直後から振り切れている感すらあり、オープニング「Twisted Sister」からしてキレッキレ。
3月の時と違ってギタリストがテイラー一人ということも大きいかと思われ、場数をこなしたからこそ一人でギターパートをこなす自信が「Can’t You Hear Me Knocking」をフィナーレでなくさらっとライブ中盤で披露してみせたことからも伺えます。
ここでは恒例のバンドメンバーによるソロ回しも披露されるのですが、秋のイギリスツアーでドラマーを務めた黒人ドラマー、ゴドフリー・マクリーンのソロが圧巻。

ライブ後半はジミヘン「Red House」のカバーでテイラーが本領発揮。ここでもギタリストがテイラーだけというフォーメーションがものをいった的確な選曲であったように思えるのですが、実際ここでのテイラーはちゃんとジミヘンが弾いていたフレーズもコピーした上でさらに自身のソロを弾いており、ジミへのリスペクトも感じさせてくれる。
そしてパフォーマーとしての自信を感じさせるのがライブ終盤におけるストーンズ・クラシックの二連発。「You Gotta Move」は元がブルースな曲調ですのでスライドをいとも簡単に鳴らしてくれますが、特筆すべきはフィナーレの「No Expectations」。
オリジナルのスローな雰囲気をジャジーでスイングする意表を突いたアレンジ。ここでもマクリーンのドラムが素晴らしく、彼に煽られる形でテイラーも思う存分スライドを弾いている。このアレンジは今でも十分にインパクトがあり、当時のMASTERPORT盤を知らないマニアには大きな驚きを持って楽しんでもらえることでしょう。抜群の音質と白熱の演奏が凝縮された懐かしの名盤が久々の再登場！
