KAJAGOOGOO made a shocking debut with Limar in 1983 and quickly rose to stardom. Introducing a luxurious set of soundboard/pro shots that allows you to enjoy the stage.
This work contains two superb records born from one show. This is a 2-disc set with a stereo soundboard recording of “May 31, 1983 Hammersmith Odeon Performance” on DISC 1 and a multi-camera professional shot on DISC 2. The predecessor band ART NOUVEAU had been active since 1978, but Limar joined them and changed the name to KAJAGOOGOO in 1981. It wasn’t until 1982 that we signed a contract with a record company and started performing live. First of all, let’s look back at the early days with a schedule and check the position of this work.

This is KAJAGOOGOO in 1982/1983. The records from that time are somewhat ambiguous, so the above cannot be said to be exact, but I think you can get a general sense of the scale. In 1983, they started a tour with the release of the album “WHITE FEATHERS”, but four months later, Limar was suddenly fired. The Hammersmith performance of this work is “Britain #2″, which was in the golden age of bubbles before such a split drama occurred. It was also the last day of their first tour.
It is also known that this show was once officially released as the video work “WHITE FEATHERS TOUR”, and this work is a copy of such official product. . . Well, no. Both the live album version and the pro shot version are broadcast versions that are different from the official version. Now, let’s introduce each one individually.
Of course, even if it doesn’t last forever, it’s still of sufficient quality to be enjoyed. It is a sound board that is different from the average audience, and the BBC narration also has a very 80’s flavor. Even with similar FM broadcasts from the 90’s onwards, the sound pressure tends to be increased and the sound becomes clunky, but this work has a lot of natural feel. The mix that is different from the official version is also a highlight. [DVD: TV broadcast pro shot that is longer than FM broadcast] Next up is the broadcast version of the video version. This is also a slightly whitish screen that cannot be called completely official grade, but it is wonderfully glossy with no traces of analog dubbing. What’s more important is the length. The FM broadcast version (DISC 1) had about 3 songs cut due to the broadcast time limit, but the video version has 15 songs that are about 10 minutes longer. In order to get a feel for the volume of songs, let’s organize the set here.

…and it looks like this. They performed all the songs from their debut album “WHITE FEATHERS”, and added the single B-side song to strengthen it. They probably mobilized the repertoire that was available at the time. You can truly enjoy the “live version WHITE FEATHERS + α” stage.
Hammersmith Live symbolized the Limar era immediately after their debut. This is a definitive edition that combines the FM broadcast sound board and TV broadcast pro shots. A two-disc set that you should enjoy together with the essential debut album “WHITE FEATHERS”. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

The live version (DISC 1) is an FM soundboard sourced from the BBC broadcast master, and the video version (DISC 2) is also the best master of the TV broadcast version. リマールと共に衝撃のデビューを飾り、一気にスターダムにのし上がっていった1983年のKAJAGOOGOO。そのステージを楽しめるサウンドボード／プロショットの豪華セットが登場です。
そんな本作に収められているのは１つのショウから生まれた２つの極上記録。「1983年５月31日ハマースミス・オデオン公演」のステレオ・サウンドボード録音をDISC 1、マルチカメラ・プロショットをDISC 2に配した２枚組です。前身バンドART NOUVEAUは1978年から活動していましたが、リマールが合流してKAJAGOOGOOと改名したのは1981年。レコード会社と契約してライヴ活動も行うようになったのは1982年になってからでした。まずは、そんな黎明期を日程で振り返り、本作のポジションも確かめてみましょう。

これが1982年／1983年のKAJAGOOGOO。当時の記録はやや曖昧な点もあるので上記も厳密とは言い難いのですが、おおよそのスケール感はご理解頂けるのではないでしょうか。1983年に入るとアルバム『WHITE FEATHERS』発売を機にツアーを開始したわけですが、それから４ヶ月後には突如リマールが解雇されてしまいます。本作のハマースミス公演は、そんな分裂劇が起きる前、泡沫の黄金時代だった「英国#2」。彼らにとって初ツアーの最終日でもありました。
このショウはかつて映像作『WHITE FEATHERS TOUR』として公式リリースされたことでも知られており、本作はそんな公式品のコピー。。。では、ありません。ライヴアルバム篇もプロショット篇も公式とは異なる放送版なのです。それでは、それぞれ個別にご紹介していきましょう。
【CD：BBC原盤から起こされたFM放送バージョン】
まず登場するのは、ハマスーミス公演のステレオ・サウンドボード録音。公式作の音落としではなく、FM放送版です。公式版が有名なためにFM放送があったこともあまり知られていないのですが、本作はその貴重なベスト・マスターからCD化されています。その正体は、最近になって発掘された原盤ソースです。ただし、クオリティは完全無欠というわけでもない。基本のクオリティはプレス化も可能なほどなのですが、数カ所でわずかにノイズが混じる。実はこの点に関しては、公式版でも同じ。放送版でも同じという事は、マスターや劣化の関係ではなく80年代初頭の大らかな収録基準が原因なのでしょう。いずれにせよ、これ以上は望めないわけです。
もちろん永久保存には至らなくても、楽しむ分には十分なクオリティ。そんじょそこらのオーディエンスとはワケが違うバリバリのサウンドボードですし、BBCのナレーションもいかにも80年代な香りが漂う。同じようなFM放送でも90年代以降だと音圧稼ぎされてパッツンパッツンになりがちですが、本作はナチュラル感たっぷり。公式版とも異なるミックスもポイントです。
【DVD：FM放送より長尺なTV放送プロショット】
続いて登場するのは、映像篇の放送バージョン。こちらも完全オフィシャル級と呼ぶにはやや白みがかった画面ではありますが、アナログ・ダビングの跡が見られない艶やかさが素晴らしい。それ以上に重要なのは、長さ。FM放送版（DISC 1）は放送枠の関係か３曲ほどカットされていましたが、映像版は約10分長い15曲仕様なのです。その曲数ボリュームを実感して頂くためにも、ここでセットを整理しておきましょう。
