JOURNEY started his US tour a little earlier than the release of his new album “FREEDOM” for the first time in 11 years. The latest live album, which will be the breaking news report, will be released at the same time!
This work is the second of such two titles. It is a superb audience recording of “March 2, 2022 Detroit performance”. This week, the sister work “BOSTON 2022 (Uxbridge 1601)” will be released at the same time, but what is the positional relationship with this work? This is the 2022 schedule that has been announced so far. So far, only 42 performances of the US tour currently underway have been announced, and the release of the new work “FREEDOM” is still unclear. Under such circumstances, the sister work “BOSTON 2022” was the 5th performance at the beginning of the tour, but the Detroit performance of this work was the next concert.
This work recorded at such a show is a superb audience as depicted in the picture. “BOSTON 2022” was a famous taper product, but this work is also a work by the modern master “guitard”. The sound using the famous machine “Schoeps MK41s” has a very thick core, clear details, and a sense of distance. It’s a type that goes on the ground with a so-called “sound board”. Its high quality is similar to “BOSTON 2022”, but its individuality is quite different. If “BOSTON 2022” is an uplifting “shining sound”, then this work can be called a “rich sound”. A dense sound that makes you feel the mass rather than the stretchiness. If you listen with headphones, you can feel the sound of the hall, but that doesn’t give you a sense of distance.
Furthermore, it is wonderful because the dynamism of the big chorus is added there. The big chorus was also sucked into “BOSTON 2022”, but it was the type that I listened to with headphones and noticed “Is it a chorus, not an echo!” On the other hand, this work follows Arnel Pineda’s singing voice with a slight (but vast) singing. Moreover, because the resolution is unusually high, each person’s voice is grainy, and when it gathers in 10,000 units, it gently spreads like May rain. I mentioned it as “rich sound” earlier, but the smooth texture may be called “touch sound”.
Moreover, this work is the highest peak update board that refined such original sound by original mastering. The point is the balance of each range. Although the original sound was beautiful, it was a little biased in terms of balance, and there was an excessive band in the bass and mid-high range. Therefore, in this work, the entire ensemble is overlooked and adjusted. I succeeded in dwelling in the beauty of proportion.

本作は、そんな２タイトルの第二弾。「2022年３月２日デトロイト公演」の超極上オーディエンス録音です。今週は姉妹作『BOSTON 2022（Uxbridge 1601）』も同時リリースとなるわけですが、本作との位置関係はどのようになっているのか。再始動後の流れは『BOSTON 2022』の解説に譲りまして、ここでは2022年の近況にズームして詳しいポジションを見てみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2022年のスケジュール。今のところ現在遂行中の全米ツアー全42公演だけが告知されており、新作『FREEDOM』の発売はまだ不透明です。そんな中で姉妹作の『BOSTON 2022』はツアー序盤の５公演目だったわけですが、本作のデトロイト公演はその次にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、画に描いたような極上のオーディエンス。『BOSTON 2022』は有名テーパーによる銘品だったわけですが、本作もまた現代の達人「guitard」による業物。名機「Schoeps MK41s」を使用したサウンドは芯も極太でディテールも鮮明で、距離感もまるでない。いわゆる「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行くタイプなのです。そのハイクオリティぶりは『BOSTON 2022』にも通じるのですが、個性はだいぶ違う。『BOSTON 2022』が天翔る高揚感の「輝きサウンド」だとするなら、本作は「リッチ・サウンド」とでも言えば良いでしょうか。スカスカ感がまるでなく、伸びやかさよりもじっくりと質量まで感じさせる密度の高いサウンド。ヘッドフォンで聴けばホール鳴りも感じられるのに、それが距離感にならないのです。
さらに、そこに大合唱のダイナミズムまで上乗せされているから素晴らしい。『BOSTON 2022』にも大合唱は吸い込まれていたのですが、それはヘッドフォンで聴いて「エコーじゃなくて合唱だったのか！」と気づくタイプでした。それに対し、本作はアーネル・ピネダの歌声に、ほんのりと（しかし広大な）唱和が付き従っている。しかも、解像度が異様に高いため、１人ひとりの声が粒立っており、それが万単位に集まると五月雨のように優しくどこまでも広がっていく。先ほど「リッチ・サウンド」と表現しましたが、滑らかな質感は「肌触りサウンド」と言っても良いかもしれません。
しかも、本作はそんな原音を独自マスタリングで磨き込んだ最高峰更新盤。ポイントは各音域のバランス。原音は鳴りは美しいものの、バランス的には少々偏っており、低音と中高音に過剰な帯域がありました。そこで本作ではアンサンブル全体を俯瞰して調整。均整の美まで宿らせることに成功しました。
最後に、そんな美のサウンドで描かれるショウ内容も整理しておきましょう。連続公演でもあり、『BOSTON 2022』も同一セットです。
