A new masterpiece is born that conveys the true value of the “90s Jeff Beck,” who was unlucky in terms of his work. It will be released on a press CD that will permanently preserve the live performance by Terry Bozzio & Tony Hymas and Pino Palladino.
What is engraved on this work is “October 8, 1995 New York performance”. It is the super best audience recording. Jeff Beck has left countless masterpieces and great performances in his 60-year career, from THE YARDBIRDS in the 60s to the 2020s. The worst part of his glorious career was the 1990s. Although “GUITAR SHOP” won a Grammy Award, their activities rapidly stagnated after that. Although the project album “CRAZY LEGS” and some session work arrived, the important original studio work and the visit to Japan suddenly stopped. The only exception to this was the 1995 US tour. In order to get an idea of its value, let’s first take a look at “Jeff’s 90s” in total.

This is the live schedule of the 90s. There were other small one-off event appearances, but this was the only “tour” that involved repeating moves and stages in earnest. “Europe #1” is a continuation of the 1989 tour, and after “Europe #2” in 1998, they accompany the revival work “WHO ELSE!”. You will understand that the only unique activity in the 1990s was the independent “North America #1”.
At our store, we have archived such a missing link “North America #1” with as many masterpieces as possible. This is a good opportunity, so let’s focus on the schedule and check the positional relationship of each.

There are many masterpieces lined up, including the press masterpiece “ILLINOIS HURRICANE (Wardour-105)”, but most of them are consecutive performances in August, which is the first half of the tour. On the other hand, the New York performance of this work was a concert that corresponded to the Chiakiraku tour.
This work, which conveys such a show, is a masterpiece with a fiercely vivid and superb sound. Although it is a DAT master that has been released only recently, the core with plenty of density stretches out powerfully, and the details are unusually fine. Even compared to the soundboard album “MARYLAND HEIGHTS 1995 SOUNDBOARD (Uxbridge 1819)” which is still fresh in my memory, the ensemble of this work is natural and the sound is beautiful. Although it is a type that is called “just like a sound board”, it is actually “more than a sound board”.
Moreover, this work is the highest peak updated edition that further brushes up such a shocking master. Although the original sound that appeared online was of sufficiently high quality, the pitch was a little high, and the outline of the guitar sound seemed a little sweet (compared to the vivid rhythm section and synths). Of course, in this work, the pitch is perfectly adjusted, and the outline of the guitar is also refined. Although I didn’t do anything to increase the sound pressure, by making the outline of the guitar crisp and tight, the entire ensemble became even more sound board-like.
What is depicted with such a brilliant sharp sound is a full show in which Guitar Shop Trio + ONE’s virtuosity is in full swing. The set is similar to and different from the soundboard album “MARYLAND HEIGHTS 1995 SOUNDBOARD,” so let’s organize it while comparing it here.

…and it looks like this. Instead of dropping “Stand On It” that was heard on “MARYLAND HEIGHTS 1995 SOUNDBOARD”, “Going Down” was included in the encore. The unreleased song “Hurricane”, which is a symbol of this tour, and “Guitar Shop”, which has not been played since then, are also perfect.
More like a soundboard than a real soundboard. This is a new masterpiece that allows you to enjoy “90s Jeff” with such a transcendent clear and tight sound. This is an “official substitute” that allows you to enjoy the missing link that you can’t know from official works alone. これが90年代のライヴ・スケジュール。この他にも細かい単発イベント出演はありましたが、本腰を入れて移動とステージを繰り返す“ツアー”はこれだけでした。「欧州#1」は1989年ツアーの続きであり、1998年の「欧州#2」以降は復活作『WHO ELSE!』に伴うもの。90年代独自の活動は、ポツンと独立した「北米#1」だけだったことがご理解頂けるでしょう。
当店では、そんなミッシング・リンク「北米#1」を可能な限りの名作群でアーカイヴしてきました。良い機会ですので、ここで日程をフォーカスし、それぞれの位置関係も確認しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。プレス名盤『ILLINOIS HURRICANE（Wardour-105）』を筆頭に怱々たる名作が並んでおりますが、そのほとんどがツアー前半にあたる８月の連続公演。それに対して本作のニューヨーク公演は、ツアー千秋楽にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを伝える本作は、猛烈に鮮やかな極上サウンドの銘品。ごく最近になって公開されたDATマスターなのですが、オンで密度たっぷりな芯が力強く伸び、ディテールも異様に細やか。まだ記憶に新しいサウンドボード・アルバム『MARYLAND HEIGHTS 1995 SOUNDBOARD（Uxbridge 1819）』と比較しても本作はアンサンブルが自然で鳴りも美しい。いわゆる「まるでサウンドボード」と呼ぶタイプでありつつ、実際には「サウンドボード超え」しているのです。
しかも、本作はそんな衝撃マスターをさらにブラッシュアップした最高峰更新盤。ネットに登場した原音は十分に高音質ではあったものの、ピッチが少々高く、（鮮烈なリズム隊やシンセに比べると）ギター音の輪郭にやや甘みも感じられた。もちろん本作ではピッチをビシッとジャストに整えていますし、ギターの輪郭も磨き込み。無闇矢鱈な音圧稼ぎなどはしていませんが、ギターの輪郭をキリッとタイトに仕上げることで、アンサンブル全体がなお一層サウンドボード的に整ったのです。
そんな輝きのシャープ・サウンドで描かれるのは、ギターショップ・トリオ＋ONEの妙技が乱れ飛ぶフルショウ。セットはサウンドボード・アルバム『MARYLAND HEIGHTS 1995 SOUNDBOARD』とは似て非なるものですので、ここで比較しながら整理しておきましょう。
