1975 GONG, who lost the founder and changed greatly while completing the “Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy”. Introducing a soundboard album where you can enjoy a valuable stage with Steve Hillage taking the lead and Dave Stewart leaving in just one week.
What is recorded in this work is “June 8, 1975 La Celle-Saint-Crew performance”. That stereo sound board recording. GONG has a complicated history that makes you want to call it a community rather than a band, but the biggest incident is probably the departure of the founder Daevid Allen. For that reason, the detailed time is very important in 1975. Let’s look back on that process once again and confirm the position of the show.

“December” SHAMAL “production”
This is 1975 GONG. They toured continental Europe when they released the historical masterpiece “YOU” in October of the previous year. In April 1975, the UK tour was finally started … but Allen left after completing the first day (Swansea on April 9th). The following day, April 10th, while it was raining, I went home with a hitchhiking in my stage costume. This was also the day before the release of Steve Hillage’s first solo work “FISH RISING”.
And after overcoming the UK tour centered on the hills, they returned to France and toured. The La Celle-Saint-Crue performance of this work was the 12th performance of “Europe” (By the way, “Europe” has one performance each in Belgium and Italy, but the remaining 21 performances are all. It was in France). Speaking of live in 1975, the D side of “GONG LIVE ETC.” And official works such as “LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75” (and our “GUILDFORD 1975 (Amity 516)”) are also left. Is an autumn show that is approaching the “SHAMAL” system. On the other hand, this work was about two months after Allen’s departure.
This work recorded at the show is a wonderful vintage sound board. It’s not like the official “LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75”, but there is no deterioration such as noise and ruggedness, and the extra-thickness and super-clear details peculiar to the sound board are poured directly into the brain. .. And the stereo feeling that is separated wonderfully is also wonderful. Former THE NICE Brian Davison, who had been enrolled for only half a year at this time, is sitting on a stool, and you can enjoy the feat with bright bread.
The show is drawn with such a sound because it is a turning point. The set is also unique to the transitional period, so let’s organize it by comparing it with the two official works mentioned above.

…… And it looks like this. This work is not a full show recording, and the last “Get It Inner” has been recorded in less than a minute at the beginning. However, the four songs from “YOU” and “FISH RISING” are all large songs that exceed 10 minutes, and you can fully enjoy them on a full scale. The initial burn John of “Cat in Clark’s Shoes”, which is completely different from “SHAMAL”, fades out before the ending, but it is still shown in 8 minutes, which exceeds the album. And, after all, “Solar Musick Suite”. It’s a shortened arrangement only for “Sun Song / Hiram Afterglid Meets The Dervish”, but it’s still over 11 minutes. It is a delicious big song because it is this work that can not be expected in “GONG LIVE ETC.” And “LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75” where Hillage lost the initiative.
GONG in June 1975, which inherited Allen’s legacy and was also a solo band of Hillage. It is one that you can enjoy the ensemble when you were enrolled in Dave Stewart / Brian Davison, which was realized only for a moment in the history of ever-changing world. そんな本作に記録されているのは「1975年６月８日ラ・セル＝サン＝クルー公演」。そのステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。GONGはバンドよりコミュニティと呼びたくなるほど複雑な歴史を持っているわけですが、中でも最大の事件は創始者デヴィッド・アレンの離脱でしょう。それだけに1975年は細かな時期が非常に重要。今一度、その歩みを振り返ってショウのポジションを確かめておきましょう。

《12月『SHAMAL』制作》
これが1975年のGONG。前年10月に歴史的名盤『YOU』を発表した彼らは大陸ヨーロッパを巡業。1975年４月にはいよいよ英国ツアーを……となったのですが、初日（４月９日のスウォンジー）をこなしただけでアレンは離脱。翌４月10日は雨が降りしきる中、ステージ衣装のままヒッチハイクで帰ってしまった。これは奇しくもスティーヴ・ヒレッジの初ソロ作『FISH RISING』の発売前日の事でもありました。
そしてヒレッジを中心にして英国ツアーを乗り越えた彼らは、そのままフランスに戻ってツアー。本作のラ・セル＝サン＝クルー公演は、そんな「欧州」の12公演目にあたるコンサートでした（ちなみに、「欧州」はベルギーとイタリアでも１公演ずつ行われていますが、残り21公演はすべてフランス国内でした）。1975年のライヴと言えば、『GONG LIVE ETC.』のＤ面や『LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75』といった公式作（や当店の『GUILDFORD 1975（Amity 516）』）も残されていますが、それらは『SHAMAL』体制に近づきつつあった秋のショウ。それに対し、本作はアレン離脱から約２ヶ月という時期でもありました。
そのショウで記録された本作は、見事なヴィンテージ・サウンドボード。さすがに公式化された『LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75』のようにはいきませんが、ノイズやゴワゴワ感といった劣化の類が一切なく、サウンドボード特有の極太感と超鮮明なディテールが脳みそに直接流し込まれる。そして、見事にセパレートしたステレオ感も素晴らしい。この時期は半年だけ在籍していた元THE NICEのブライアン・デイヴィソンがスツールに座っているのですが、その妙技も鮮やかなパンで味わえるのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるのは、ターニング・ポイントだからこそのショウ。セットも過渡期ならではですので、ここで前述した２つの公式作と比較しながら整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。本作はフルショウ収録ではなく、ラストの「Get It Inner」は冒頭１分弱で録音が終了していまいます。しかし『YOU』『FISH RISING』からの４曲はどれも10分超えの大曲揃いで、フルスケールでたっぷりと楽しめる。『SHAMAL』とはまったく異なる「Cat in Clark’s Shoes」の初期バーンジョンはエンディング前にフェイドアウトしてしまいますが、それでもアルバムを超える８分尺で披露されるのです。そして、何と言っても「Solar Musick Suite」。「Sun Song／Hiram Afterglid Meets The Dervish」だけの短縮アレンジではありますが、それでも11分超え。ヒレッジが主導権を失っていった『GONG LIVE ETC.』『LIVE IN SHERWOOD FOREST ’75』では望めない本作だからこその美味しい大曲なのです。
アレンのレガシーを受け継ぎつつ、同時にヒレッジのソロバンド的でもあった1975年６月のGONG。千変万化の歴史でホンの一瞬だけ実現したデイヴ・スチュワート／ブライアン・デイヴィソン在籍時のアンサンブルを味わえる１枚です。英雄達の一期一会が楽しいカンタベリー・ミュージックの醍醐味、どうぞサウンドボードで存分にご堪能ください。
