“THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR”, the gold standard of the story live that British rock is proud of as the goal of the Peter Gabriel era. Among them, a masterpiece live album that conveys the unexplored continental European performance is now available.
Actually, the “Broadway tour” is currently hot among collectors around the world. The global corona vortex outing regulations have stimulated the excavation of various bands / artists, but for some reason GENESIS is discovering a series of “Broadway Tour” audience recordings. European recordings are of particular interest. This work is a famous recording that is gaining popularity in such a situation. Why is Europe so popular? To explain that, let’s first look back at the schedule at that time.
● 1974
“November 18” The Lamb Lies Downway “released”
・ November 20-December 18: North America # 1 (26 performances)
● 1975
・ January 9-February 4: North America # 2 (19 performances)
・ February 19-April 12: Europe # 1 (34 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ April 14-May 2: UK (16 performances)
・ May 8-24: Europe # 2 (13 performances)
This is the whole picture of the story tour of the century. As anyone who has noticed this article knows, “Broadway Tour” is one of the largest sound board recording production areas in the Gabriel era. There are many masterpieces and masterpieces. However, such sound boards are extremely biased. Most of them are early North American tours, and in Europe, only “DEFINITIVE LIVERPOOL 1975” from their native England. In other words, in order to listen to Continental Europe, we have to rely on audience recording.
Furthermore, the performance in Europe is also wonderful. As you can see from the schedule above, “North America # 1-2”, where a large number of soundboards were born, was in the early stages of the tour, and then moved to Europe and the United Kingdom. This tour only plays an unfamiliar two-disc new album as a whole, and I will improve in the latter half. Of course, there are some unsuccessful performances for each performance, so I can’t make a general statement, but it is said that Europe has a higher performance rate than North America.
And this work is the masterpiece of the continental edition. This is an excellent audience recording of “March 22, 1975: Annecy Performance”, which is the 18th performance of “Europe # 1”. In fact, the sound of this work is neat. The sound board isn’t on enough to make a mistake, but the core that penetrates the fresh space is powerful enough, and you can taste the fine details firmly. And above all, the sound that creates an exquisite luster and fantasy is wonderful. As with YES, symphonic rock becomes more majestic due to the hall sound peculiar to audience recording, creating a feeling of pouring music. Of course, if the recording itself is dirty, there is no source or child, and if the core and subtleties are blurred, it will be ruined. However, there is no need to worry about this work, and the hall sound gives the performance thickness and dynamism, and it is a beautiful recording that makes you feel the glittering shine.
No other prog-rock band has produced followers all over the world like GENESIS in the Gabriel era, but France was exceptional. ANGE and MONA LISA, which represent the country, are not only symphonic, but also predominantly rock theater with theatrical vocals and stories. This work is packed with the night when the head family GENESIS will perform “The Lamb Lies Down Broadway” in France.
Maybe there are Christian Deccan and Dominique Le Gunet at this venue … The real thrill is that it’s a story tour, so it’s even more emotional, and even the “Broadway Tour” can’t be experienced in other countries’ recordings. Of course, it’s just one excellent piece of music, but it’s also a masterpiece of a live album that exudes a historical spectacle that extends to the history of Eurorock. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
