It is a very rare live sound source of Gary Burton, the master of jazz world Vivraphone.
The live sound source itself at this time is not unusual, but if you look at Ments, the guitar is John Scofield. Steve Swallow, the main pillar of ECM, is playing the bass, and with this lineup, the guitar should be Pat Metheny. In the first place, John Scofield and ECM are not so connected, and it is a rare participation. Perhaps it was the timing when he acted as a pinch hitter for Messeny for some reason. It’s also fun to compare it with his familiar version of Metheny, such as “Sea Journey.” However, the sound quality is a little difficult even though it is a sound board. We have prepared a level that you can enjoy with tearful remastering work, but it is not for beginners. この時期のライヴ音源自体はさして珍しいものではありませんが、メンツを見てみればなんとギターがジョン・スコフィールド。 ECMの大黒柱スティーヴ・スワロウがベースを弾いており、本来この布陣ならギターはパット・メセニーなはず。 そもそもジョンスコとECMがあまり結びつかず、なんとも珍しい参加となっているのです。もしかしたら何らかの事情でメセニーの代打を務めたタイミングだったのかもしれません。 お馴染み『シー・ジャーニー』などメセニーのバージョンと比べてみるのも一興です。 ただ音質はサウンドボードながらやや難有り。 涙ぐましいリマスタリング作業によりなんとか楽しめるレヴェルまで整えてありますが、初心者向けではありません。 初心者の方は、まず音質の良いメセニー参加のバートン・カルテットの音源をチェックしてみてください。そして、そちらを聴きこんでからこのスコフィールド参加音源に戻って来てくださいませ。
