武道館に関しては最近でもUXBRIDGEレーベルからサウンドボードに迫る域の極上オーディエンス「BUDOKAN 1977 FINAL NIGHT」CD-R＆DVD-Rセットがリリースされたのも記憶に新しいのですが、先の音響の恩恵を受け今回の新音源の音質がまた本当に素晴らしい。
サウンドボード・チックな音像の迫力という点では「BUDOKAN 1977 FINAL NIGHT」に軍配が上がるのですが、こちらの音像も相当にオンであり、フツーにプレスCDでイケてしまいそうなクオリティ。そして「BUDOKAN 1977～」と違って近くで喋る外人客がいないというのが大きなアドバンテージ。
唯一「You Make Loving Fun」のエンディングから「I’m So Afraid」の冒頭でカセット掛け替えによるカットが生じてしまいましたが、そこは「BUDOKAN 1977～」を使ってしかりアジャスト。
マックの絶頂であった1977年のツアーはここ最近でも「L.A. FORUM 1977 2ND NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES」に「SIN CITY 77: JON WIZARDO MASTER CASSETTES」といった極上音源が立て続けに発掘されましたが、今回の音源はモノラル録音ながらもそれらに負けていない。
むしろ今回の武道館を聞くと、ツアーを通して高品位な演奏をやすやすと繰り広げていたマックが77年ツアーの終盤で辿り着いた異国の地にて、いよいよ完成の域に達していたことを思い知らされます。何しろ音質が非常に良いので、その盤石な演奏ぶりが実にリアルに感じられる。
高品位な演奏を満員御礼となった1977年の武道館に響かせてくれた伝説の一夜が生み出した新たなる極上オーディエンス。「BUDOKAN 1977 FINAL NIGHT」をお持ちの方でも間違いなく楽しめること請け合いですし、これはもう初心者からマニアまで、幅広い層に自信を持って推せる初登場音源。是非じっくりとお楽しみください。
