Everyone is convinced of its existence, and the release of the full version has been rumored many times, but it has not come true, “That Springfield”. Until now, the complete version of the sound board, which had only three songs, “Smoke On The Water”, “Going Down”, and “Highway Star”, is finally, finally, finally! “The day has come for you to experience it!!!”

This is DEEP PURPLE in the Bolin era. The Springfield performance of this work was the act of “North America” which is the main leg. The official “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976” and Joe Maloney’s press masterpiece “RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL 1976 (Darker Than Blue 291/292)” are also familiar here, so let’s focus on the schedule further.

… and it looks like this. Well, this work is a complete version sound board of such a Springfield performance. The full show that has been delusional from the official 3 songs has finally been exposed to the sun, but the sound is a little different. The official had a strong sound with a fairly dynamic sound pressure, but if I were to express this work in one word, it would be “unrecorded”. Although it is unprocessed and the mix is different from the official one, it is natural and directly connected to the mix table. Although the detailed line age has not been revealed, no dubbing marks are felt, and it is full of “original feeling” than the official.
Now then, the sound of “Springfield’s Full Show” pouring into your brain…it’s just overwhelming. A set different from “LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976” is also a point, so let’s organize it here.

“I think the biggest point is “Drifter”.” I could listen to “THIS TIME AROUND”, but as you know, Bolin is in a bad mood in Japan. In this work, you can listen to the real version of “Drifter” on the sound board. Of course, the whole show exploded with enthusiastic performances that are incomparable to Japan. Especially the highlight is “Gettin’ Tighter”. Although it is a passionate performance number that always extends to about 12 minutes, this day is a tremendous performance of over 16 minutes. Of course, the more you pull out the length, the more rich the contents. It tells you how you were knocking on this day.

これがボーリン時代のDEEP PURPLE。本作のスプリングフィールド公演は、メイン・レッグである「北米」の一幕でした。ここには公式『LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976』やジョー・マロニーのプレス名盤『RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL 1976（Darker Than Blue 291/292）』もお馴染みですので、さらに日程をフォーカスしてみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。さて、本作はそんなスプリングフィールド公演の完全版サウンドボード。オフィシャルの３曲分から妄想してきたフルショウが遂に白日の下に晒されたわけですが、サウンドはちょっと違う。オフィシャルはかなり豪快に音圧稼ぎされた押しの強いサウンドでしたが、本作はひと言で表現するなら「録りっぱなし」。無加工でミックスも公式とは異なっている反面、ナチュラルでいかにもミックス卓直結。詳細なラインエイジは明かされていないものの、ダビング痕は感じられず、オフィシャルよりも「大元感」に溢れているのです。
さて、そんなサウンドで脳みそに流し込まれる「スプリングフィールドのフルショウ」は……まさに感無量。『LIVE AT LONG BEACH 1976』とは異なるセットもポイントですので、ここで整理しておきましょう。

最大のポイントは、やはり「Drifter」でしょうか。『THIS TIME AROUND』でも聴けましたが、ご存知の通り日本公演はボーリンが絶不調。本作は本領発揮バージョンの「Drifter」をサウンドボードで聴けるのです。もちろん、ショウ全体で日本とは比較にならない熱演が大爆発。特に圧巻なのは「Gettin’ Tighter」。いつも12分くらいに伸長する熱演ナンバーではありますが、この日は何と16分超の凄まじい大熱演をブチかましている。もちろん、その長さを引き出すほど中身も特濃。いかにこの日ノッていたのかが端的に伝わってくるのです。
夢にまで見た「スプリングフィールドの完全版サウンドボード」。怪しい海外盤が出たと思ったら「中身はロングビーチだった」という経験をされた方もいらっしゃる事でしょう。噂と伝説ばかりで「やっぱり現存するのは公式の３曲分だけか……」とあきらめていた完全版。本当に、本当に実在していました。その衝撃の新発掘を永久保存するプレス２CD。どうぞ、刮目してご体験ください！
