このショウは“ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE”のために行われた特別公演なのですが、この番組はその名の通り、大学の体育館などで行われるステージを放送するもの。1978年９月から1981年３月まで全45回に渡って放送され、AC/DCやCHEAP TRICK、ロリー・ギャラガー、トム・ペティ、U2、GILLAN等々、ロック史に残る名作を大量に残しました。CHEAP TRICKの出演回も無数の既発群を生む定番中の大定番なのですが、本作はその中でも最高峰となるものです。
