It was “May 18, 1974 London performance” that was imbued with such a work. It is a superb audience recording when performing at the festival “SUMMER OF 74” held at the home of Charlton Athletic FC. This festival mobilized about 50,000 people at a one-day event held with THE WHO as the headliner. If it was evenly out of alignment, it would have dealt with the existing group, but it was random and crazy. Therefore, this work challenges accurate and precise correction. We succeeded in preparing with the highest accuracy ever. And two songs that are recorded as a bonus even more delicious. In the first place, this recording has traditionally been added to the audience recording of “September 9, 1974 Boston performance (previously it was supposed to be October 9)”. This work is also recorded according to tradition, but this sound is also the highest peak ever. Not only the pitch but also the stereo feeling on the left and right has been adjusted to enhance the “case” as a musical work as much as possible.

これが1974年のBAD COMPANY。本作の“SUMMER OF 74”出演は「英国#1」のラストにあたるコンサート。まさにアルバム・デビュー直前だった事がご理解頂けるでしょう。そして、そんなショウで記録された本作は、かつて「バドカンの初ステージ」として知られてきた名録音でもある。実際には初ステージではなく、当店の『NEWCASTLE 1974（Wardour-070）』を筆頭にもっと古い記録も発掘されたわけですが、貴重なアルバム・デビュー前の記録には違いないのです。
さらに素晴らしいのは、その貴重度を吹っ飛ばすほどのクオリティ。これがもう、とんでもない超・極上サウンド。とにかく芯が骨太・肉厚で距離感がまったくない。これは恐らく会場が要因でしょう。現場となった“ザ・ヴァレイ・スタジアム”は大きく開いたオープン・スペース。音を反射する天井がなく、ＰＡが吐く出音を反響ゼロでダイレクトに拾っているのです。もちろん、ＰＡから遠ければスカスカにもなるのでしょうが、本作にその心配はなし。各楽器のセパレート感も絶大なら70年代には拾いにくかったベースさえも克明に感じ取れる。フェスらしい喧騒を吸い込んでいなかったら、とてもオーディエンスとは信じがたい極太サウンドなのです。
しかも、本作はその最高峰を更新するもの。サウンド自体は従来から超極上で知られてきましたが、この録音最大のウィーク・ポイントはピッチ。一様にズレているなら既発群も対処したのでしょうが、ランダムで狂っていたのです。そこで本作は正確・緻密な修正に挑戦。過去最高の精度で整える事に成功しました。そして、さらに美味しいのがボーナス的に収録されている２曲。そもそも、この録音は伝統的に「1974年９月９日ボストン公演（従来は10月９日とされていました）」のオーディエンス録音が追加されている。本作も伝統に則って収録していますが、こちらのサウンドも過去最高峰。ピッチだけでなく、左右のステレオ感も整えて音楽作品としての「格」を可能な限り高めました。
そんなレジェンド・サウンドで描かれるのは、レジェンドそのもののショウ。前述の通り、彼らのデビュー前と言えば、サウンドボード・アルバム『NEWCASTLE 1974』が象徴として君臨しておりますので、ここで比較しながら整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。おおよそは『NEWCASTLE 1974』に準じておりますが、目玉はオープニングで披露されるフレディ・キングのカバー「Palace of the King」。1974年にしか演奏されていないだけでなく、記録自体が指折り数えられる程度という激レア曲。それをサウンドボードばりの超極太サウンドで味わえるのです。
他にも「Don’t Let Me Down」やシングルＢ面曲だった「Little Miss Fortune」「Easy on My Soul」も初期ならでは。特に「Easy on My Soul」はイントロのピアノこそオリジナルの『HEARTBREAKER』を彷彿とさせますが、すぐに軽快なリズムに変化。シングル『Movin’ On』収録バージョンに準じたBAD COMPANYらしいアレンジで披露されます。
