Live at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 4th September 1982 Afternoon & Evening Show TRULY AMAZING SOUND (from Original Masters)

Les McKeown, who had just arrived in Japan last year, died on April 20, 2021. He was 65 years old. This week, a masterpiece live album that brings back the dazzling memories of the Tartan Hurricane will be restocked.
Such a work contains “September 4, 1982: Nippon Budokan (2 performances in the evening and night)”. In addition to Leslie and the late Alan Longmuir, Eric, Stuart, and Derek are all included in this two-disc set that includes only two performances for one day. It is a definitive set of special-grade audience recording of “evening part” + sound board recording of “night part”. Let’s introduce each of the two performances.

[DISC 1-DISC 2 first half: evening part (full audience recording)] The first appearance was an evening performance. Audience recording of the entire concert with great sound. Its sound, it’s amazing. The realistic atmosphere is a little different from the “sound board”, but the thickness of the core of the performance / singing voice that arrives straight is comparable to line recording. On top of that, the beauty of the “sound” that colors the core is definitely an audience recording. The feeling of air is transparent and transparent, and even the finest details are clearly transmitted. Although the bass sound is a little chattering, the singing voice that jumps in strongly jumps in with almost no sense of distance, and the sound of the venue spreads behind the head. Although the detailed recording position was lost, it was probably recorded close to PA. Of course, the freshness is the ultimate only in the master cassette given by the recorder himself.
BAY CITY ROLLERS is not the only one drawn with such a brilliant clear sound. In fact, the breath of the spectators who gathered at the site of Nippon Budokan is also glittering. If you write it like this, you may imagine a recording covered with voice and screaming, but it is not that type. Of course, a fierce yellow roar is bubbling, but there is no upcoming voice at all, it is assimilated with the song like an SE that excites the mood, and the clapping of hands is sharply integrated with the rhythm section. The octagonal space is filled with the mood of “I want you to be excited and pleased!” With the feeling of entertaining the five members of BAY CITY ROLLERS with all their might.
If you say that the yellow voice is … As soon as 5 people appeared, it was crazy, and even between songs. You can see where the members are standing and how they are moving just by the three-dimensional effect. Leslie points the microphone at the chorus of “I Only Want To Be With You”, but it ends up being “I only want to be with Kaa!”. However, the reason why such a voice is not a nuisance even if it is smiling is probably because it is far away. Perhaps there are a lot of girls screaming for the names of the members on the scene, but the names aren’t close enough to be heard. It is a “swell” as a whole. And the “swell” is really moving. Western music girls who sing up to each word of the lyrics in “Don’t Let the Music Die”, the sea of cheering after “Bye Bye Baby”. The promised “S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night!” Is also amazing.

[Second half of DISC 2: Night section (60-minute FM sound board)] Such “evening part” is up to the 4th song of DISC 2. The rest of DISC 2 contains the broadcast sound source of “Night Club”. It is a radio sound source that has been edited for the program according to the 60-minute frame and includes an interview in the middle. The main story, “Evening Club,” also conveys the “real of the 80’s” wonderfully, but this is also amazing. Because it is a sound board, the super direct feeling is vivid, and you can clearly understand who the voice is from each word of the chorus.
And here too, Western music girls in the field are very active. Since it’s a broadcast, it can be mixed in any way, but it’s bigger than the “evening part” of the audience recording (laughs). Normally, it is common sense that radio broadcasts mix cheers only between songs and almost erase the rest. However, in this place group, screams are constantly screaming even during the performance, and the whole story is bright yellow. Moreover, this cheer is not fake, it is completely real. The voice singing the melody is confused in the kyaa, and as soon as the chorus of each song is reached, the female voice is as strong as Leslie. Of course, even between songs, when Leslie says “Konichiwa”, he says “Hello!”, And when he says “Hello !!”, he says “Hello!” And screams in hiragana. Was the mix that emphasized cheers so boldly, and was it really happy with the great hospitality of Japan? The Western music girls at Nippon Budokan are definitely “treated as the sixth member”.

Speaking of “Japan and BAY CITY ROLLERS”, the honeymoon friend engraved on the official editions “LIVE IN JAPAN” and “ROLLERWORLD”. However, the former did not have the Longmuir brothers, and the latter did not have Alain. On the other hand, in this work, “that 5 people” are all in line. You can listen to “When Will You Be Mine,” “The Pie,” “My Lisa,” and “Back On The Street,” which you can’t hear even if you put the above two pieces together.
Because of “the five people”, the enthusiasm of Japan. This is a vacuum-packed version of those two performances with a special audience and a broadcast sound board. Please chew as much as you want with this work in those dazzling days.

★ Live set of “September 4, 1982: Nippon Budokan (2 performances day and night)”. It is a 2-disc set of “Full audience recording of evening performance + Sound board recording of night performance”. The audience recording of the evening performance is a name recording in which the thickness of the core of the performance / singing voice that arrives straight is comparable to the line recording, and the “sound” that colors the core is transparent and the air is transparent and the fine details are clearly transmitted. The night performance is the best FM sound board. Not only the shining hit parade, but also the big chorus of Western music girls who sing each word of the lyrics with yellow cheers is a dazzling live album.

Live at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 4th September 1982 Afternoon & Evening Show TRULY AMAZING SOUND(from Original Masters)

【DISC 1-DISC 2
「I Only Want To Be With You」のサビでレスリーがマイクを向けるのですが、「I only want to be with キャアッ!」

上記2枚を揃えても聴けない「When Will You Be Mine」「The Pie」「My Lisa」「Back On The Street」もたっぷり聴かせてくれるのです。
