Mike Millard’s master excavation project continues to discover hidden treasures in 2022. The latest version, U.K., is here.
It was “November 14, 1979 Long Beach Performance” that was imbued with this work. It is the transcendental audience recording. Speaking of U.K. in 1979, the legendary performance in Japan and “NIGHT AFTER NIGHT” are memorable, and in recent years, “1979 FINAL CONCERT” has also been recorded in the official box. In order to sort out the situation in that area, let’s first unravel the schedule at that time.
・ February 11: Performance in Paris
“March” DANGER MONEY “released”
・ March 3-13: Europe # 1 (3 performances)
・ March 21-May 5: North America # 1 (22 performances)
・ May 15: London performance
・ May 29-June 4: Japan (5 performances) ← * NIGHT AFTER NIGHT
“September” NIGHT AFTER NIGHT “released”
・ October 5th-November 18th: North America # 2 (25 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ December 1-17: Europe # 2 (9 performances) ← * 1979 FINAL CONCERT
《U.K. Dissolution》
This is U.K. in 1979. I ran through a year with a trio with Terry Posio, but the long beach performance of this work is the final stage. This is the 23rd performance of “North America # 2”. This day was also the undercard of JETHRO TULL, and Millard, who was aiming for the main act, was present. Normally, Millard doesn’t record the undercard band, but U.K. turned the tape, probably because it was exceptional.
Moreover, the best with its sound barrel and “super”. Since it is a mirrored recording, it may seem natural at the highest level, but it is also the best at the mirrored standard. There should be no sense of distance, the strength of the on-core, the fineness of the details, the vivid stability, the beautifully separated stereo feeling … everything is tremendous. The brilliant bass sound peculiar to Wetton, the dancing Jobson violin, and the positive drumming that makes you feel the geometrical beauty of construction are all beautiful. As some of you may have noticed in the title, this work is not the original master of Mirrored, but the 1st Gene that I gave to a friend. Nevertheless, it is a transcendental sound that becomes “completely official grade” without any questions.
Of course, if it was such a super-superb sound, it would be a permanent storage press CD ……, but that was not the case. There is only one reason. In fact, the beginning of the show is an incomplete recording that was missed. So what kind of songs can you listen to and how much are you missing? Let’s organize it by comparing it with the full set on the day.
● Studio work
・ The four men of the gloomy country: Alaska (×) / Presto Vivace (×) / In the Dead Of Night
・ Danger Money: Rendezvous 6: 02 / The Only Thing She Needs
● Others
・ Night After Night: As Long as You Want Me Here (×) / Night After Night
・ Others: Nostalgia / Waiting For You
* Note: The “x” mark is an early song that was not recorded.
…… And it looks like this. Was it a gift to enter the venue of Mirrored on the day, or was U.K.’s performance so terrible that he decided to record it in a hurry? Anyway, three songs were not recorded from the start, and “In the Dead Of Night”, which started recording, was only about one minute. If it was a complete recording with such a superb recording, I would like to request it to be official rather than pressed.
However, even so, the delicious parts such as “Nostalgia” and the unreleased song “Waiting For You” that will be recorded in Eddie Jobson’s “THE GREEN ALBUM” are firmly suppressed. In particular, “Waiting For You” is a rare song that could not be heard even in the official box “ULTIMATE COLLECTOR’S EDITION”, and you can enjoy it with a completely official grade sound.
It is a hidden treasure album of U.K. left by the absolute master Mike Millard. It’s a pity that it’s incompletely recorded even if it’s returned, but even if you press it, the transcendental sound that can’t be helped is intense, and one rare song is delicious. Please enjoy it carefully.
★ Transcendental audience recording of “November 14, 1979 Long Beach Performance”. The sound by the 1st Gene Master of Absolute Master Mirrored is superb, the power of the core that is on at zero distance, the fineness of detail, the sense of stability that is vivid, and the stereo feeling that is beautifully separated is also great. Unfortunately, although the first three songs were not recorded, the precious “Nostalgia” and “Waiting For You” are also treasure albums that you can enjoy with completely official sound.
