2009年にリリースされ、好評を博した、高音質オリジナル音源を使用した、イーグルス1979年東京最終公演タイトルの決定盤「BUDOKAN FINAL 1979」が、装いを新たにギフトタイトルとしてリリース決定です！「Hotel California」が全世界で空前の大ヒットを記録、1979年、人気絶頂期に行われた２度目の日本ツアーより、4日間行われた武道館公演最終日の9月25日のライブを、極上レベルのオーディエンス録音で完全収録。選曲はまさにベスト・オブ・イーグルスと言った感じで、オープニングのHotel Californiaから終演後の会場アナウンスまで、珠玉の名曲の数々が、当時としては別格の最高音質で完全収録されています。「The Long Run」に伴うワールドツアー初頭のライブであり、新作から３曲がライブ披露されています。Lyin’ Eyes終演後、ニューメンバーのティモシーが紹介され、彼の書いたI Can’t Tell You Whyが演奏されます。ショウ中盤では、Turn To Stone、Life’s Been Goodとジョー・ウォルシュのナンバーが披露されます。おなじみRocky Mountain Wayでメインセットをしめた後、ここで一旦テープが落ち（この部分フェイド処理）、続いてアンコール3曲(Take It Easy, Tequila Sunrise, The Best Of My Love)が披露されますが、この3曲はレコーダーのポジションが変わったのか、メインセットに比べ、若干音質が落ちます。おそらく、アンコールで客席が総立ちになり、マイクが遮られたせいだと推測されますが、それでも十分過ぎるほどの高音質で録音されています。Tequila Sunrise、The Best Of My Loveでの大きめの手拍子が時代を感じさせますが、同時に客席のウォームフルな雰囲気が伝わってきます。イーグルス2度目の来日公演より東京公演最終、そして「The Long Run」初頭の貴重なライブ・ドキュメントを極上音質で楽しめる一枚です。

イーグルスの二度目の来日公演より、最終日となる武道館追加公演を収録した2枚組。来日メンバーは、グレン・フライ、ドン・ヘンリー、ドン・フェルダー、ジョー・ウォルシュ、そして新加入したばかりのティモシー・シュミットの５人。ティモシーは後に日本のCMでア・カペラの「So Much In love」が流れて有名になったが、音楽ファンにとっては全米最高といえるコーラスの美しさを誇るポコ出身だということの方が重要だ。前任者のランディ・マイズナーも素晴らしいファルセット・ヴォイスの持ち主だったが、ティモシーの“無垢なイメージ”は、ダーティ－なイメージ（この場合は単に汚い風貌という意味）のジョー・ウォルシュとうまく対になっていて、新生イーグルスの人間的なバランスが絶妙になったといえる。大阪フェスでのオーディエンスは熱く燃えたぎる歓声だったが、武道館の客は会場の広さもあってか、妙に大人しく感じる。その分、イーグルスの美しいコーラス・ワークを、少しでも漏らさずに聞くことが出来るのが嬉しい。昔は圧力的な反響音が嫌われた武道館だったが、現在のドーム・コンサートなんかになれた耳で聞くと、武道館程度の反響はむしろ心地よく聞こえる。特にイーグルスのようなコーラス重視のバンドにはやはり武道館クラスが打って付けなのだろう。過去4回来日公演を行っているイーグルスだが、会場、演奏、セット・リストなど、全ての面において1979年の来日公演がベストといえるだろう。本作は低域成分が多く若干こもっているものの、武道館の透明感をよく再現しているといえる。イーグルス・ファンは必聴の作品だ。
