This is TOTO in 1992/1993. This Paris performance is the ninth performance of “Europe”, which was also the main leg. It was the latest 12 days before the official work “ABSOLUTELY LIVE”, and it was also the timing of one month before coming to Japan.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, is a superb audience recording. After all, this work is a special item that jumped out of the much-talked-about “Stephane” collection. This person is a recording artist who has released one after another the finest recordings of the late 80’s / early 90’s, mainly in Paris. At our shop, IRON MAIDEN’s press masterpiece “DEFINITIVE PARIS 1993 (Zodiac 469)”, SCORPIONS’ “PARIS 1990 (Shades 1737)” and MOTLEY CRUE’s “PARIS 1989 (Shades 1761)” were very popular. . Since there are many HR/HM series, TOTO fans may not be familiar with it, but this work is also a masterpiece that makes the master’s golden signboard shine even more.
If I were to say how superb it is, would you be able to understand it if I said, “It’s at least the same level as the official ABSOLUTELY LIVE”? Of course, it’s a spatial recording, so it’s not as intimate as “ABSOLUTELY LIVE”, and the tone and clapping are also like an audience. However, the strength of the core, the ease of listening to the clear, the vividness of the details … If you check each item one by one, you will not lose to “ABSOLUTELY LIVE”. In particular, the beauty of the rich and glossy sound exceeds the official work, and the listening response that penetrates with the large chorus spectacle and symphonic gives a great impression that is incomparable.
More than that sound, the number of songs recorded in the full show is probably more than the official volume. The official “ABSOLUTELY LIVE” was also a 2-disc set of about 83 minutes, but this work is a 3-disc set of about 2 hours and 42 minutes, which is about double the scale. そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、それはそれは見事な極上オーディエンス録音。何しろ、本作は今話題の「Stephane」コレクションから飛び出した特級品なのです。この人物はパリを中心に80年代末期/90年代初期の極上録音を次々と発表している録音家。当店ではIRON MAIDENのプレス名盤『DEFINITIVE PARIS 1993（Zodiac 469）』を筆頭に、SCORPIONSの『PARIS 1990（Shades 1737）』やMOTLEY CRUE『PARIS 1989（Shades 1761）』等が大好評を博しました。HR/HM系が多いのでTOTOファンの方には馴染みが薄いかも知れませんが、本作も名手の金看板を一層輝かせる大傑作なのです。
どれほど極上かと言えば、「公式ABSOLUTELY LIVEと同レベル以上」と申し上げればご理解頂けるでしょうか。もちろん空間録音ですから『ABSOLUTELY LIVE』ほどのド密着感ではありませんし、音色や手拍子にもオーディエンスらしさは宿っています。しかし芯の力強さ、クリアな聴きやすさ、ディテールの鮮やかさ……項目を１つひとつチェックしてみると『ABSOLUTELY LIVE』にも負けていない。特にリッチで艶やかな鳴りの美しさは公式作も上回っており、大合唱スペクタクルやシンフォニックで染み入る聴き応えは比較にならない大感動を与えてくれるのです。
そのサウンド以上にオフィシャル超えなのは、フルショウ完全収録の曲数ボリュームでしょう。公式『ABSOLUTELY LIVE』も約83分の２枚組ではありましたが、本作は約２倍尺の２時間42分という３枚組なのです。最後にセットを比較しておきましょう。
