STYX in 1976 was in the midst of a major revolution with Tommy Shaw. A soundboard album that will pour the live performance of the historical turning point into your brain is now available.
This work was recorded on “March 26, 1976 in Seattle”. It is the stereo sound board recording. The album “EQUINOX” was produced with John Kurlewski, but Kurlewski withdrew during the subsequent tour. Tommy joins. Therefore, the meaning of the “EQUINOX Tour” is completely different even with a slight difference in timing. In order to check that side, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and check the position of the show.
● 1975
“MAN OF MIRACLES Tour”
・January 3-August 30: North America #1 (70 performances)
“EQUINOX Tour”
・October 7-December 6: North America #2 (13 performances)
《Kurryowski leaving → Tommy Shaw joining》
・December 16-28: North America #3 (8 performances)
●1976
・January 10-May 12: North America #4 (38 performances) ← Coco
・ June 5-12: North America # 5 (3 performances)
”CRYSTAL BALL Tour”
・ September 3-December 31: North America # 6 (28 performances)
This is the 1975/1976 STYX. “North America #2-5” was the “EQUINOX Tour”. There is also a theory in November about the timing of Kurryowski → Tommy Shaw change, but in any case it is at the beginning of the tour. The Seattle performance of this work was the 24th performance of “North America # 4”, which was revised in 2016, after Tommy changed.
Such a show will be broadcast on Seattle’s local station “102.5 KZOK”. This work is the highest peak board of the FM sound board. As a matter of fact, the source of this work is the original reel master from the prestigious “JEMS” collection, which was broadcast in 1979 when “PIECES OF EIGHT” was a big hit. It is also one of the best products digitized by the same craftsman “Krw_co”. In fact, the quality is completely official grade. There are no dust marks such as dubbing marks, and the separate feeling is clear to the fine details of each sound, and even if they overlap, they will never mix.
And above all, the strongest thing is the sense of stereo. It blows left and right with a tremendous width of pan, and assembles a vast sound universe in the brain. Although it is an FM broadcast sound board, the vivid floating appearance and stereo feeling are close to the outflow sound board directly connected to the desk. “North America # 4” also had a monochrome pro shot of the San Francisco performance, but it is a super vivid soundboard that is incomparable to that monaural sound.
With such a super vivid and thick sound, a big enthusiastic performance that has just entered a new era with Tommy. Let’s check out a set full of initial scents here.
-Branch point (4 songs)
・Born For Adventure (★)/Lorelei/Suite Madame Blue/Midnight Ride
● Others (2 songs)
・You Need Love (★) / Rock & Roll Feeling (★★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that have not been played since the 1980s. In particular, the “★★” mark is a song that could not be heard even in the 1976 San Francisco performance pro shot.
… and it looks like this. This day was the opening act of RUSH, but either because of that or because of the broadcast frame, in any case, the early masterpieces dyed by Tommy in a short time of about 44 minutes are concentrated. Based on the 4 songs from the latest work “EQUINOX”, the early masterpieces are inserted. While showing a sense of fulfillment that foreshadows a big hit later, the stage only in the late 70’s with a different image comes out of the speaker.
A live performance from 1976 that sums up the Kurryowski era while also making you feel the energy of the new era that welcomed Tommy. It is a new masterpiece that you can fully enjoy the amazing taste with a completely official-class stereo sound board. That is one piece packed with quality and performance that I want you to use even for the official deluxe edition. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
