This is the 1987/1988 Sting. The full-fledged tour main part started from the revised “North America # 2” of the year, and throughout 1987 it was a promotional mini tour for the album “…NOTHING LIKE THE SUN”. The two performances of this work are the beginning. The Rio performance (DISC 1) was the first day of “South America # 1”, and the Buenos Airer performance (DISC 2) was the final day. Both performances were broadcast on local TV stations. The professional shot has become a standard for many years. This work sets the best version. Let’s introduce each one individually.
[DISC 1: Rio performance of the best master who does not seem to be a South American broadcast] The first thing to appear is the multi-camera pro shot of the “November 20th Rio performance”. As mentioned above, it is a classic pro shot, but the quality is unprecedented. After all, since it is a TV broadcast in South America in the 1980s, it is natural that the master so far is covered with dubbing marks. It was a state that even the smooth image of high-generation with worn edges was considered a hit even if there was only a small amount of noise. However, the horizon of this work is not like that. As expected, the analog image quality is undeniable, but the freshness that seems to be the 1st or 2nd generation is wonderful, and the vividness that remains to the fine details is eye-catching. Even if Sting’s face is close-up, the shadows and flowing sweat are clearly drawn, and the texture of the skin can be clearly seen. Of course, so is the sound. Although it cannot be advertised as “Official grade!” Because it is monaural, it is a well-mixed Gon Kujo sound board. However, unfortunately the recording time is short. The contents will be described later, but the set edited for about 70 minutes along the broadcast frame is far from the full show. [DISC 2: A long Buenos Aires performance where you can enjoy a full show] DISC 2 will dispel such lack of appetite for Rio footage. It is a multi-camera pro shot of “December 11 Buenos Aires performance”. This is not as good as the Rio video, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad video. The noiseless master freshness is excellent, and there is almost no shaking, distortion, or discoloration (although the edges are sweet), and there is no white line noise. And above all, the greatest strength is the complete recording of the full show. Let’s organize the set together with the Rio video (DISC 1) here.
● Nothing Like The Sun
・The Lazarus Heart/We’ll Be Together (★)/Be Still My Beating Heart (★★)/Englishman In New York/Sister Moon (★)/Rock Steady (★)/History Will Teach Us Nothing (★)/ Straight To My Heart/They Dance Alone/Fragile(★)/Little Wing
●Others
・Blue Turtle’s Dream: Consider Me Gone/If You Love Somebody Set Them Free/Fortress Around Your Heart
・Zenyatta Mondatta: Driven To Tears/When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What’s Still Around(★)/Don’t Stand So Close To Me(★)
・Others: Roxanne (★) / Bring On The Night (★) / Message In A Bottle (★) / Too Much Information / Spirits In The Material World (★) / Get Up Stand Up
* Note: “★” marks are songs that can be seen in both videos. The “★★” mark is a song only for the Rio video (DISC 1).
… and it looks like this. The medley performance is also disassembled in order to organize the two performances together, but the core is clearly just released “…NOTHING LIKE THE SUN”. Of the 12 songs on the album, all songs other than “The Secret Marriage” have been performed, and there are plenty of valuable songs unique to those days such as “The Lazarus Heart”, “They Dance Alone”, “Rock Steady” and “Little Wing”. Especially rare is “History Will Teach Us Nothing”. It has been played only to the extent that it can be counted, especially in the Buenos Aires performance (DISC 2), which also includes the valuable Bob Marley’s “Get Up Stand Up”. Such rare songs can also be witnessed with multi-camera pro shots.
36-year-old Sting was in the midst of his prime as an artist and singer. It is a 2-disc set where you can enjoy the shining appearance with multi-camera and professional shots. A video masterpiece worthy of being called a “moving NOTHING LIKE THE SUN”. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
★ Multi-camera pro shot of “November 20, 1987 Rio de Janeiro performance / December 11, 1987 Buenos Aires performance”. It is a two-disc set of Rio video (DISC 1) of the best master who does not seem to be a South American broadcast and Buenos Aires video (DISC 2) which completely recorded the full show. Shaw, who performs 11 songs out of 12 songs on the album, is just right to call it “Moving NOTHING LIKE THE SUN”, such as “The Lazarus Heart”, “They Dance Alone”, “Rock Steady”, and “History Will Teach Us Nothing”. You can also enjoy plenty of rare songs.
